The Conservatives will scrap the Human Rights Act if they win the next general election, the home secretary has said.
Theresa May told an event organised by the Conservative Home site the act must not interfere with the UK's ability to fight crime and control immigration.
She said it restricted "our ability to act in the national interest".
A private poll by ex-party treasurer Lord Ashcroft, meanwhile, suggested the party would lose 93 marginal seats to Labour if the election was held now.
I guess it could do with a tune up but to get rid of it completely? Don't get me wrong I don't think a terrorist who has a "right to a family" because he owns a cat should be allowed to stay but how far could they go with this?
England invented the Human rights that everybody abides by and now we are going to scrap it for the ideals of this idiotic political party?
Thank god they won't be re-elected. Do you support a re-write or just scrap it?
-
Don't know what human rights England invented because as far as I know the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as written by the United Nations was lead by by France, China, Canada, Lebanon and headed by FDR's wife. Was England's a law? Don't know anything about it, but by principle it sounds bad to abolish anything called the Human Rights Act.

What about my rights, OP?
-
The Conservatives have already lost the next election, so they can say all talk all they like.
-
There goes the Commonwealth.

Looks like England needs Margaret Thatcher back!

Politics...
-
Back to a monarchy/dictatorship?
-
The British conservatives sound like the American liberals.
-
Hello, Airstrip One.
-
What exactly does the 'Human Rights Act" encompass?
-
From what I read, it sounds like they want to back out because they're not getting advantages out of it but facing disadvantages. That's a terrible way to look at not being a barbarian though. Do conservatives really think this way? "We shouldn't torture people because we don't want our people to be tortured" rather than "Torturing is wrong and that's not something civilized people or nations participate in."
-
Seems as though the Conservatives of the United States are joined in stupidity by conservatives of England. Although who am I to judge I'm Amurrican.
-
not sure if actually want
-
Not will. Could. Also your post is full of logical fail.
-
Lost respect for England.
-
our ability to act in the national interest
That's just straight up terrifying. We have no idea what that could mean.
-
I feel like the UK is screaming out for a Political Party run by me. Maybe the Britfags from YANW too. Jessica can be Minister for Know-it-all-ery

Edited by Chris_wcd45: 3/9/2013 8:37:56 PMThey're gonna get re-elected for two reasons: 1) Nobody in their right mind would vote Lib Dem now 2) People don't like Miliband As for the human rights act, some of the things that have been allowed under the HRA are absolutely ridiculous. I don't think it needs to be scrapped completely but I do think that if you have commited a serious crime (murder/-blam!- etc) then the HRA should no longer apply.

Good. Damned humans.
