Perma-death is not difficult, or hard, it's just stressful. Not fun at all. Many people could beat the game without dying, it's just not fun? I know Bungie would never be this dumb.

  • It's like Hardcore mode was in Diablo 2. It was fun for the first act, then it got stressful.

  • And I'm sure there are tons of people that beat it. But that experience must have been a boring one, camping, sneaking around corners, trying really hard to get past enemies, playing the game extremely slowly. It doesn't take skill to beat a game on perma-death mode. Just takes patience and a high tolerance for boredom.

  • Yes, it was boring and painful. The worst part was having to check every single mob for MSLE before you touched it. Permadeath === False, kthx.

  • If many ppl could beat the game without dying the game itself seems very boring. Bringing out emotions from players is what will make players want to come back, if the game is dull then there won't be any response.

Ok, so if the majority of people can't beat the game without dying and the game is probably a huge ass game, then what the hell, most people would never beat it? It's stupid game design and I know for a fact bungie would never do it. I seriously bet you 5 trillion dollars Bungie would never consider this and if you asked them yourself they would tell you that you wouldn't like it. Just like I'm telling you. You may think you would like it, but trust me, you wouldn't like it. If it's not easy to beat the game without dying, then in order to beat it without dying you have to play it in an extremely boring way, like I said before. Yes, you are right, this would bring out emotions in the player. Those emotions would be stress, frustration, anger, boredom. You would get a huge sigh of relief everytime you won, but that wouldn't last long. And if somebody beat the game without dying, then that means they beat every single boss on the first try. That means it would be easy. I don't know why you think there should be perma death and also think the majority of people shouldn't be able to beat it.

  • I am merely entertaining the idea of having an "option" to enable it, with the promise of increased loot quality/number and experience. I am envisioning something that you could toggle on for one quest and then off again. I do understand that it is stressful, but any form of competition is. Someone's character who beats certain quests while in this mode could conceivably attain a "special" piece of armor or ship upgrade for doing so, entitling them to the wow-factor and bragging rights to passersby. Will it be nearly impossible to most? Undoubtedly. This didn't prevent Bungie from including skulls in the Halo series now did it, and what did they do? The majority made the game more difficult and one even made in-game death permanent forcing players to restart the level. I will state again, the option would be nice with a ramped reward for doing so. It is not a mandate for the entire game.

  • Yeah but in Halo there were levels, you didn't have to start the whole game over. There are 2 possibilities in which the perma death game is beatable, since it's an always online world, there is no way people could play in two different difficulties, there would only be one difficulty, some dungeons harder than others, but everybody would play the same game. 1. It's hard as hell. The majority of players can't beat the game. Campaigns in games on the hardest difficulties have never been hard. They have always been stressful and boring. It never took skill. Trust me, I was a 50 Five Star General in Halo 3, I was very skilled in that shooter, yet I could not bear to play the game on Mythic difficulty because it was just frustrating, it did not require clever gunplay, strafing, advanced tactics, all it took was camping, waiting, sneaking, and hiding. That is how Destiny would be played to ensure that this enormous game be completed on the first try. 2. Most people can beat the game, and it's too easy. That's about it. Both possibilities make for terrible game design.

  • Agreed. I know it would make encounters more intense and thrilling when you make it through them, but what happens when you get killed by a stray grenade that you didn't see? That would be far too stressful for me to handle.
