The Fallen represent "The New Monarchy"?
So....from this little excerpt from Urk in the mail sack has revealed something else about the Destiny universe "I fell in love with the Fallen all the way back in 2009. Partly because there’s just something wonderful about the idea of a nomadic race of once noble houses now scattered to the solar winds. Partly because there’s something primordial and instantly terrifying about squaring off against an unpredictable Fallen Captain, his tattered crimson cape draped over a set of four splayed and angular arms that bristle with sleek firepower"
To me it seems that they fit in the role of the new monarchy. They wear crimson, they used to be part of a noble house but aren't any more, and seem to have a ranked military system. What do you think? Who's to say that the factions only represent the guardians of the city?

They resemble dead orbit more closely. Colors aside, I urge you to look at the lore and ideologies behind our enemies and our factions. The fallen run. They move around. Hop from place to place, scavenging what they can. This is what dead orbit wants to do. Run, scavenge, hide. The Cabal fight. They serve a single power—a "monarch", if you will—known as "the emperor". New monarchy wants to stand its ground and fight, it wants to conquer as the cabal do. The Vex tinker with time and space. If FWC's interest in praedyth is any indication, it would be that they, too, are deeply interested in the concept of time, and the laws of the universe, much like the vex are. Not sure about hive. -blam!- those guys. Additionally, the characteristics of guardian "races" align quite nicely with the dark races. Let's look at the representatives that we speak to for each faction: FWC's rep is an exo. Given that I've compared them to the vex, the similarities should be obvious. Vex are machines, as are Exos. New Monarchy's rep is a human. They are destructive, orderly, and capable of great military feats. They like to deal with problems head on. The cabal are no different. Finally, and most convincingly, Dead Orbit's rep is an awoken, and the similarities between the awoken and Fallen are striking. The awoken are not as cowardly, per se, but their shattered reef seems to indicate that they were on the run, and were caught, hence the large amount of debris. They ran, like the fallen ran. More interesting is the fact that they are masters of politics and diplomacy. Note that the fallen have "houses", and that these houses often engage in politics (though not as effectively since the fall of house judgement, and the rise of the wolves). The queen even managed to make peace with the fallen, for a time. I think they got along because in truth, their species share quite a few similarities. These are just my thoughts. Have a wonderful day. EDIT: Had an Aha! Moment. Osiris' faction is secretive and seems to have strange rituals, much like the hive do. Might be some connections there.

  • Very true. I've always thought that these "factions" might be the enemies and not ones that we choose. For instance, since we learnt about the space zombies, I thought that the 'Dead Orbit' fit quite well with them. Now that I'm looking at it, it seems that the enemies fit into the factions quite well, I'll explain down below. New Monarchy - The Fallen (You just said why this works) Dead Orbit - Space Zombies (It fits) FWC - Vex (Time traveling robots) FWC being the "Future" war cult. Osiris - Cabal (Sand eaters, Osiris being egyptian god, egypt being a sandy place... best I could for this one.) Seven Seraphs - Don't know...

    • They sound more like an Old Monarchy.

    • The name "New Monarchy" implies some kind of sovereignty over some sort of territory. I find it unlikely that a nomadic race of warriors would want to identify themselves with an image of sedentism.

      • Very interesting theory, I think this could very much be the case. I just wounder what it means by they were "once of noble houses". Perhaps something worse out there forced the Fallen to be nomadic?

          • It seems that the Seven Seraphs are a (or THE) human faction. If Osiris, Dead Orbit, New Monarchy and FWC are the enemies, then there's no other factions to really choose from.

                • Well jokes aside i think it is interesting. I like the idea of just going against the odds with skill and willpower. Or being looked down upon because of their "superior blood". And i imagein this disaster brought us together as a race, however i believe that the different factions represent the different ways to proceed. like atack back or strenthen our defence.

                • So because they wear crimson cloaks you think they are part of the new monarchy? Seems legit.

                  • Quite possible. I look at The Fallen as a former representation of intergalactic tyranny, who may have fallen out of power in their own galaxy. I think that The Fallen have migrated to our solar system to establish a new sector where they can build their military power in hopes of reclaiming their own galaxy. Human civilization in this case was just collateral damage, and our struggle may evolve into a war from two fronts.
