  • Man, why'd you necrobump this?

  • Why? It's giving legally married same-sex couples the same federal benefits as heterosexual couples. It's unconstitutional to deny rights that were obtained legally.

I should know, my brother is gay and got married last year. Marriage is between a man and a woman

  • Lets do this again. What dictates that its only between a man and a woman?

  • Daaaang, this was necro'd. Well, I'll join in again. With PSU's logic, a 50 year old female can marry a 15 year old male because in some cultures, even as a teenager, you're still considered a man. Hell, in this logic too, in African cultures, they do a test of manhood that starts at age 8. With that logic, an elderly woman in her 80's can marry a male that is 8 years old.

No, you say marriage is between a man and woman, I say it's not. Why should I conform my definition of what marriage is to suit your definition when it denies certain people equal rights? Also, civil unions are not really equal to marriage. Since the federal government does not recognize gay marriage due to DOMA, you won't get any federal benefits like a heterosexual marriage would. Also, some states won't recognize your civil union, so if you move to a certain state your civil union might as well not exist.

  • Then dont move. My brother and his husband have the same exact benefits as my wife and I.

  • Easy for you to say, but what if your job requires you to move, you need to take care of a sick family member, or really any of the hundreds of reasons one may need to move to a different state. Straight couple don't need to worry about that when they move to another state, why should gay ones? Also, no you're brother does not get the exact same benefits as you. Even if your state gave the exact same benefits to a legal union as they do for a marriage, since the federal government only recognizes a union between a man and a women, your brother is getting nothing from them.

  • It's also a right to get married too. The only argument that I could see being made on the other side is, "It's not natural and gays/lesbians aren't people.", which is a very, very weak argument.

Marriage IS NOT a right. It is a privilege. Seriously, so many people have this messed up definition of what a right is these days, everything may as well be a right. EDIT: Yes, I know people are going to cite the Supreme Court decision on this. But I dont think just because the SC says something that it makes it so in all circumstances (Dred Scott)

  • Why is it, every single time I post something that can be backed up with facts, you counter with your own opinions that you pulled out of your ass and an insult? It makes you look pathetic at this point.

  • Are you retarded? The fact that the supreme court ruled it as a right is complete reason for it to be legal. It does make it so in all circumstances in lawmaking.
