The Muting has begun.

So is everyone muting everyone? This place has died down a bit. Why are you muting people? I used to get on to laugh at stupid threads and find news. Now everyone complains about trolls and such. If you didn't want trolls why are you on an internet forum? Seriously. I think the mute should be removed.

  • ITT: people who are butthurt about their suspicions that they were "muted by butthurt people who can't handle me keeping it real". Protip: No one is guaranteed a captive audience. If you want people to listen to you, speak to them in a manner that makes them less inclined to tune you out. Because they can and will, if you don't.

  • Muted. Kidding, but making a point.

  • I only mute spammers and those who make completely pointless and irrelevant posts.

[quote] If you didn't want trolls why are you on an internet forum? Seriously.[/quote] This is almost an objectively terrible way to look at forums and forum interaction.

      • I don't really have a problem with muting. I have only muted 2 people so far, and that was because they were kinda annoying and I didn't want to pay attention to them.

      • I don't think the mute feature is the problem as much as the removal of all rules is. But don't bother complaining. Half the people here are going to keep acting like it's not a problem and the site will continue to die. I just hope for your sake that the shit covering the walls of this place doesn't run off everyone who joins to talk about the new game.

        • The key is to tell them that you're muting them before you actually do it. It's a good time.

        • I think it would be a more useful feature if there were more moderation of explicit rules. As it is muting doesn't solve the issues of trolls, because at most even the most offensive and annoying of trolls will only ever be noticed by a tiny slice of the community at a time, and their audience will continue to exist. There's just no real discouragement for being a jerk.

While I reserve muting for trolls, particularly the bad ones, I like the mute feature because censorship is entirely in the hands of the user. Muting because of butthurt doesn't promote any sort of good discussion, but I can still say I'd rather have this prerogative than not. If the tag system is used properly, you're less likely to happen upon a thread that contains something you'd rather not discuss.

          • I haven't muted anyone, and I can't see a reason to mute me... Is it really a "muting epidemic" as you make it up to be?

          • The mute feature should be removed. Now we just have a bunch of butthurt pussies muting everyone who disagrees with them. People are retarded. You can not trust people with that kind of power.

What you're expierencing is a feature of bungie.next - no, not muting (although it is), I'm talking about trolling. In fact, the webteam even talked about it and it's posted on the front page: [quote][b]Posted by:[/b] [url=http://www.bungie.net/en-US/View/community/blog/News?aid=10129]runningturtle[/url] Personalization. Not just personalization of your profile images and motto, but the ability to curate the people, groups, and content that you see.[u] In one of our initial brainstorming sessions, someone said "I want to be able to troll." Now they can. They won't get banned, but they might get ignored by everyone.[/u][/quote] Go ahead, troll all you want, abuse the BB code, spam the forum, call people jerks and make offensive posts. Just know that you're probably going to get muted by a lot of people and then they won't see your content. You have the power! [quote]If you didn't want trolls why are you on an internet forum?[/quote] To interact with friends, be part of a greater community. To see the development of a new IP/Franchise from one of my favorite developers. To debate, listen, learn and cultivate around others' experiences. To have a place I can ask for advice, news, tips for life related events and see how they develop over the years. I came to have great experiences and ignore those who seek to disturb it. Showing up for "trolls" isn't on my agenda. Muting/Blocking isn't new to the internet. Ever use Xbox Live, Facebook, Twitter, PSN or YouTube? They all have it. You have the freedom, choose your own path.

              • So, when you are muted, do get a message saying that you have been muted? [i](Please don't mute me to let me find out.)[/i] I like the Mute button idea. Of course it will get abused, just like everything else. But in time, people will start to use in correctly. I have only muted 2 people and that was because it was for messages about kfc coupons. I'm sure that you folks have seen them ass well. I agree that people will probably mute you/us for not agreeing with their opinion. But think about it. They are probably not worth carrying on a conversation with anyways. Buck up Capy, it will eventually get better.

              • I've only muted one person, and that was because of spam. I know I've been muted before. But I don't know why.

I'll only mute people which harasses me or constantly attempts to annoy me. Other then that, I don't see the point in muting someone just because you disagree once. I'm sure there's many on here that do though.

                • [quote] I think the mute should be removed.[/quote] Same, it seems the most common reason for people muting right now is because some big meany face didn't agree with them 100%.
