The problem with the #Universe tag.

As a former avid Universe forum goer I was particularly disappointed when the new forums were added to Bungie.next without a new iteration of the Universe forum. My jimmies were re-rustled by this when Deej said in the mail sack that we as the community could have the Universe back by simply using the #Universe tag. However in the case of the Universe forum this really doesn't work. The purpose of the Universe forum was to have an ongoing discussion about the story lines of Bungie's various games. However in Bungie.next there has been a diaspora of the threads that were all housed in an easily accessible location, the forum itself. Without an easy way to access all of these old threads a huge amount of information and theorizing (not to mention a lot of time spent writing some very long and in depth threads) has been lost to the dark corners of Bungie.next You might be inclined to say "But Max, that's what the tagging system is for it's so easy to search the old Universe topics just use the tag that Deej supplied in the Mailsack." You could say that and you would be wrong. The tag system and the lack of a forum for Universe topics is in fact the cause of the problem, that problem being the difficulty in finding threads that were made on the old site. If you click on that link to the #Universe tag you will see that there are only two pages of threads, all of which have been created since the release of the BETA. This is because as is pointed out in this incredibly helpful thread by Wurstsalat the threads that used to be in the Universe forum (along with all old threads) have been tagged with a variety of different tags making them incredibly difficult to find. Again you could say, "Problem solved that thread will help you find all of those old threads." My response is, it should not be so difficult to use these new features. The tagging system is meant to make life on Bungie.net easier not more difficult which is what it has done. The first solution I could think of, and in my opinion the best, in regards to the Universe forum and its old threads would be to reintroduce the Universe forum and using whatever process was used to tag old threads simply retag them as #Universe (that process may or may not be so simple but would make the tags much simpler to use). This should also be redone for old off topic discussions and Community forum discussions, if it hasn't been done already. This all kind of includes the issue of how hard it is to find old threads on this site. Not just threads from the old site but any threads since Bungie.next dropped and were created a few weeks ago. Which could be greatly alleviated by the return of the saved threads feature or changing the Like feature to be similar to the old saved thread system.

We're building toward the future. The past has been left standing as a monument to a wonderful decade of our history. Soon, you'll have a new universe to discuss. You already have a new place waiting to house that conversation. We make no deliberate effort to (How did you phrase it?) "rustle your jimmies." Change is rough. We know that, and we beg of your patience. Our hope is that, when we have something new to talk about, the new venue will feel more like home.
Without an easy way to access all of these old threads...
My advice to you would be to find your old forum topics on halo.bungie.net. At the top of your old thread is a link to the new location of that thread on bungie.net. You can then add whatever tag will help you and others reference that thread again. I'm not sure many know that they can resurrect old threads through halo.bungie.net.

      • I feel like this is one of the things that they will fix before the Beta is finished. I too went through the universe forum a lot and also miss being able to see many different threads on all of bungie's games. I feel like they will most likely add a "Universe" forum or will go to the old universe forums and ave them tagged as universe.
