The power to edit posts

What are your thoughts about the Ninjas having the power to edit your posts/tags? Bungie have given us powerful tools to make our bungie.net experience our own. While I understand why Ninjas should have the power to alter posts, but isn't that defeating the purpose of empowering the user when a post is edited by a Ninja/Employee? If they have the power to alter posts, can we the public at least be given an explanation as to why the post was edited? Say I click on the edited by link, could we be given the reason in a popup of some type? Not only would this feature feed my insatiable curiosity, but also give other users an opportunity to learn from others mistakes. I support the Ninjas and their contributions to this site, but I don't want to see bungie.net take two steps forward just to take one step back.

This is neither a step back, nor forward. We've had the power for years and our "abuse" of it tended to be aimed at creating lulz and/or protecting the site/community/our hosts from some dangerous liability. If we choose to, I would (personally) be okay with leaving a comment to the OP. But I would prefer to have such notifications (and potential derailments of discussion) be at my discretion and choice. Unless our hosts directed the ninja that "if you edit, you must message" or "if you edit, you must comment". But that could be bothersome and more harm than help. We've been given some direction regarding our edit capabilities, and we're likely to follow those directions (which are reasonable and not about us going nuts). Tag cleanup is really a favor to the OP and not meant to be any sort of discipline, correction or even a "teachable moment". We'd like to see EVERY topic get as much interest, response and participation that the community is capable or inclined to give it. Think of our occasional and rare edits as Television Network Execs putting a show into a "better time slot" and putting out some trailers/adverts for the show. That's our goal, to make topics easier to find and more accessible. Example: I added a tag of #moderation. I think that's not a bad addition or idea. No need for you to feel as if you've been violated, spanked, corrected, counseled, disciplined or were "wrong". I thought of a tag would likely be used in order to try to find a topic such as this. Do you feel that it has somehow soiled the integrity of your OP?

        • They always had the power to edit post. What are my thoughts about it? It doesn't bother me at all. They are the law of this site so they should have the power to do so.

        • Uhhh, they've always been able to do that.

        • Welcome to the system guys! The mods will troll as they see fit and there is really nothing you can do about it. There is nothing here but pure trolling and personally I saw it coming and hey, I'm going to embrace it.
