Member titles should stay gone IMHO. If people can't stay just for activity , then well that's their problem for being dependent upon a meaningless rank that does nothing but promote elitism.

But, if you're given enough items to choose from based on a wide range of metrics, you're not going to find elitism in it. The previous system with trust involved heavily and time on the site caused issues. If you include something like "how many times someone curses" as a metric, well, you're going to have some people "game the system" for that title, but it doesn't matter since people can ignore the posts/topics they don't like. With everything so easily attainable, people won't be able to necessarily hold a title over someone and if they do, well, just mute that individual. That or just have everything flashy on the profile page. Leave the forum a clean slate with even footing. But have the option to click on someone's profile and see how dedicated they really are.

Meh, dedication isn't really important either. You want dedication just look at their post count to their ban record, ect. I don't see why any sort of 'status' outside of Moderator or Employee needs to be had. It's better to leave everyone at an equal footing than elevating anyone over anyone else. No one is better than anyone else among default users. That's how I see it. People shouldn't strive for rewards of community status, they should just strive to have fun or enjoy their time on the forums. Simplicity over complexity, leave it simple stupid, Anything past that just gets dull and cumbersome and sometimes cluttered. It's why despite the titles , the old system worked better. have it like that without the titles, and things will be better. Maybe a bit more troll control, but that will sort itself in time anyway I'm sure. Still plenty of things I dislike with how things are right now, but absence of titles is one I'm glad to see gone. It's a forum, not a role play scene, no need for ranks or reward. Just my two cents.

  • Well, not everyone sees it that way. Gaming in general is largely a movement about receiving better feedback based on accomplishments. Many people even desire a gamification of real life where we are given better feedback based on our real life accomplishments making our lives more gratifying. Not everyone is in that boat. Obviously you don't want to experience said things, but that doesn't mean others aren't interested in personalization and rewards for their continual use of the site and playing of the games Bungie makes. The great thing is, you can mute those you find to be too obsessive with it or spouting nonsense about elitism on the forum to enhance your personal user experience. But, for everyone else, it may just be another fun addition to the site to get invested in.

  • Random comment: I think you'd like this book, Reality is Broken by Jane McGonigal.

If in a video game, I can see rewards, but on a forum? there's really no point to it. To each their own though.. being rewarded for action on a forum, LOL.. They want reward, go outside, get a job, do work, get paid. Boom, real reward for real accomplishment. You accomplish nothing by posting on a forum. That's simply how I see it. As I said, to each their own.

  • Well, I'm not suggesting anyone go crazy with trying to unlock things on a forum board. It is merely one of those optional things to get invested in. People treat a forum board as a means toward sharing in conversation with those they find that are like-minded. Allowing a user to customize their experience as bungie.next does makes that easier. If you're going to be participating here in the long haul, its kinda nice to gain more and more customization options showing just how long you've been here to others even if you yourself don't really appreciate them. Its not solely about the individual's experience, but about showing new users what a cool community they've entered with veterans and newbies all represented and sorted based on display, hopefully without conflict, but with healthy competition. Business structures separate into brackets, why not a forum board? It doesn't have to be treated as elitism or anything crazy, but merely as a way of encouraging more engagement between users.

I don't really care about them things at all, and to be frank, I don't care if others wouldn't see them on my profile either. I've been around quite awhile, different WLID changes due to forgotten passwords and whatnot along the way, which is fine so I never did get high in 'title' as it was meaningless to me anyway. People who judge others off of that stuff alone is exactly the reason why it shouldn't be around. Base their opinions of them just because of what they have, or don't have is pretty childish honestly. I don't see why that kind of attitude should be encouraged. They want to see how long this particular account has been around, they can look at the join date. Like this followers thing, there needs to be more privacy options to block people from doing that as well (Not allow followers if they don't want them ect) The individuals experience should matter however, they should have ways of showing it if they want to, or not. Or even not allow themselves to get it as well. If someone views my profile and doesn't like my lack of stuff or whatever else, oh well they can go look at someone elses more extravagant profile instead. Not quite sure if you get what I'm saying, and if it comes across a bit too harsh, I apologize there, I'm a bit blunt with my views as I told True Underdog in a different thread, but I do my best to keep it clean and concise.
