Courteous and polite posting.

Ah, The Halo Movie Discussion Thread. I have been there for a little while, fighting valiantly for the anti-Halo movie.... thingy. Any road, my time there has pointed out some glaringly rude conduct regarding posting. This is prob. falling on well behaved ears, but what the hell. Here are a few useful tips that will help you gain acceptance and maybe a little respect. 1. Read the previous posts. Is not that much hard work. If the thread is only a few pages long, it doesn't take too long to have (at the very least) a quick skim throught the previous pages to see what has or has not been discussed, who the main posters are, to look for quotes you might like to use and to generally see how the post has gone. Posts flow like a river, and you must be in the boat of knowledge. 2. Use the [q ] [/q ] function. It is VERY basic, and it makes it clear what points you are addressing. 3. Use correct grammar and spelling (a point mentioned many times before) 4. Respect other peoples point of view. Your opinion is not the only opinion in the entire world on any given subject. 5. Point, counterpoint. Makes for interesting debates. 6. Use the edit button! It's right next to the 'Reply to' button. It's not that difficult. ( There we go goweb, just for you ;-) ) Follow these tips, and you shall be loved. Or, at the very least, not get beaten up so much. [Edited on 9/30/2004 12:36:07 PM]

 • Then there's this example, from New Mombasa.
Subject: Deeper Topic: Christianity in Halo and Halo 2 Hello guys, for you who are imediatly about to posting stupid things, please just press back now, I appreciate it, I need a real thought about the subject here. Anyway, I was wondering on your opinions about Christianity in the Halo Series. A few points and connections made so far are as follows: 1) The prolouge to the game: The Prophets (Isrealites - or Jews) had much power and respect from the Elites (The People of the land) through thier direct connection to Forerunner (God). The Prophets meet direct decendants of the Forerunner (God), they are called humans (Jesus Christ.. more specifically Master Cheif who plays a double role with the name John 117, John the Baptist, Revalations 1:17. "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.") The Prophets (Isrealites) attempt to turn the Elites (People of the Land) against the human (Jesus). The Elites should be worshiping the humans rightfully, and the Prophets know they will lose everything if this happens. 2) The Flood: We arn't talking literal flood like that of Noah's Ark, it's the connection to water. Water = purity, clensing, renewing (Hence Baptism in water). The Flood purate (eliminate) the universe of life, they sweep across the land and clear away all in its path. The flood sweep across the land, much like a flood of water. Revalations 16:1-2 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels (Another point, Bungie frequently uses the number 7 such as does the Bible to represent things of extreme, completeness, or fullness), "Go, pour out the seven bowls of God's wrath on the earth." The first angel went and poured (poured, verb connected to a liquid, aka, a flood) out his bowl on the land, and ugly and painful sores broke out on the people (Hence the disformed looking flood).. ex: of Bungie and 7... 343 Guilty Sparks. Important Biblical Numbers: 3 and 7. 3 sevens, 7 x 7 x 7 = 343 Is there anything anyone would like to add or argue with in these cases? I have to confront a priest with this information soon (Getting the church to sponser a halo league and team) so someone with a good knowledge of the Bible would help with his/her opinion. Thanks in advance.
What follows is the poster's signature. Does it make sense, given the topic posted?
Covenant don't literally watch -blam!-. Their civilization is so advanced that they actually smell -blam!-. Or have it communicated to them in degrees of heat. This hot, malodorous form of -blam!- is naturally a very private matter, best enjoyed in the privacy of a ceramic Covenant Pornhole.
I'm all for intelligent reasoning. Heck, I'm in favor of just about any kind of reasoning, as long as it's well written and provides examples, and doesn't contradict itself. So I should like this based on it having one of the three covered, right? (It is reasoning, isn't it?) But, alas, I cannot. It was the flood of posts akin to this one that has kept me from visiting more frequently in the last month (well, I was also living what some might call a life--not to be derogatory to anyone here--and life has been a bit hectic of late), aside from checking out the Weekly Updates. I thought, based on the thread title, that the topic might be worth a look. It does say "Deeper Topic" in the title line, doesn't it? Putting aside the obvious, that religion (nor politics) isn't supposed to be discussed in the forums, what I found, as you have read, appears to be a jumbled, thrown together mess of misspelled words and half-baked stabs at connectivity between a video game that couldn't have less to do with Christ and his followers than my fingernail shavings do. Maybe I just hope too much when I visit here. Hope that more folks like Stalin the 31st, Recon Number 54 and Eagle 117 (just three of many others) are online posting good conversational topics (every time I've tried posting one it's on page two before you can blink--or maybe I'm not trying hard enough?). Rant over.
