Here's how I see it, it takes "different" skill but not more. Those who say it does should do some gameplay and actually research it. Halo 3 I think it's 30-40% skill and the rest PURE luck with spawning and timing. Also your weapon over theirs.
COD I think is just camping and one shotting. COD is not really skill, but advantage. A 5 star general has way more perks than a recruit or a colonel so if it came down to it a general" with more exp" would easily win just from a couple little perks, not really skill.
However if a recruit did beat a general then I would put that into the skill category of COD.

Em, well I actually sort of agree. It takes some skill, but not nearly as much as halo. There's a lot of variables which make it hard to take cod seriously. In cod, there is no map control in pub games. It's only competitive in a competitive scene because people joining and leaving completely ruin map flow and balance. Also, you don't start out with every option on the table. In cod you have to level up and unlock items which is very unbalanced. In Halo everyone has a shot at the best weapon and is given the same starting weapon. As far as shooting and aiming I think it's hard to compare. There is far less aim assist and auto acceleration than any Halo game which is a plus. Bloom hurts the reliability of a gun, but burst firing it can increase the skill gap. I guess that balances out for cod. I'm not a fan of hitscan (cod uses this) which ruins many games for me and is why I prefer Halo 3. Projectiles are more realistic and in halo 3's case they help balance the sandbox. Sniping obviously takes more skill in halo 3 than in any call of duty. I've always felt like there was a bigger skill gap in sniping in Halo 3 than Reach or Halo 2. Black Ops 2 is going to have a win/loss system for ranked playlists. I believe there are going to be playlist specific restrictions. It may mean no drop in/drop out for those playlists. These are necessary changes if we are going to take cod seriously as a competitive game. Also, there's things in halo like trick jumping/shortcuts that are not in call of duty at all. Head glitching and lines of sight could be the only counter cod has that halo doesn't. [Edited on 09.12.2012 3:29 AM PDT]
