Destiny at VGAs? Next-gen launch title?

It's a known fact in the gaming industry that new IPs don't get very far nowadays on current generation consoles, which means it wouldn't be too crazy to assume Bungie knows this and wants to wait and release Destiny alongside the next-gen consoles as a launch title. This time period is by far the best time to ever release new IPs, and with all the rumors of the consoles coming in 2013, it's possible we could see a debut trailer at the VGAs coming up soon. Since Bungie likes to announce their games about a year before release, this seems reasonable. Share your speculations.

  • What I think: Destiny will be on this generation, and maybe ported later to the next generation. If the game is good enough, it will do well. Look at Dishonoured. New IP, did fantastically, it's a new IP at the end of a console's life. Bungie doesn't really decide when it reveals it's game, Activision does. If Activision doesn't want to take focus away from Black Ops 2, they aren't. Maybe the marketing strategy is to have a small window but strong window of marketing time. Most new IPs get introduced a year or more away from launch, which is due to pushbacks and what not. Remember "The Last Guardian"? That game was revealed years ago. The hype for that game was TREMENDOUS! Eventually it faded, because hype fades with time. What I'm thinking is that Bungie/Activision wants to try a short but strong marketting strategy. This way the hype is strong and it stays strong until release. Also to explain why Destiny won't be next generation. Bungie has been working on it for years. Before they got dev kits for the next generation. We know that Destiny is slated for Fall of 2013, and the rumours are that the next generation also comes out around holiday season 2013, spring 2014. So even if Destiny were a launch title for the next generation, the number of people with the next generation of consoles will be very limited. Where as the people with this generation is at the highest it can be. So who would you want to sell your game to? A very limited amount of people who have the next console as soon as it comes out, OR the millions of gamers who have this generation of console? Edit/TL;DR: Destiny 1 will be made for this generation. Millions upon millions of gamers have this generation of consoles, being exclusively a launch title won't get you many sales, because a very limited number of gamers have the new generation. It probably will be ported over to the next generation when the next generation comes out. It won't be any better than the old generation, it won't get a graphics boost or any new features, it won't be a "remake", it will just be ported over so you can get more sales, it will essentially be the Xbox 360 version on the Xbox 720.
