What is your term of the American Dream?

Social Mobility and Security. Ideally it is for your kids to have a better life than you had. IE, you have a stable life for your children, which meant home ownership and a stable job, and that social mobility is possible so your kids could achieve more than you did. That was what it meant. Now, it means consumption and decadence. People are supposed to save and be reliant on themselves. They now use credit to buy large screen televisions and then declare bankruptcy when they can't pay the bills.

To immigrants, it's to leave their troubles behind in their homeland and to seek a better life for themselves and their family. For American-born citizens, it's just to constantly improve.
