So Has Microsoft Justified the $10 bump up to Xbox Live?

I know this is very late, it's been like, what? A year since Microsoft bumped up the 12 month price of Xbox Live from $50 to $60. Perhaps this isn't the right forum to go to, but I have to ask, what made them spike the price up? It's not justifiable. I know to alot of you, $60 ain't nothing, but we have to look at the ideal that each cents, each dollar is being used to ensure our satisfaction, to be honest, I'm still kindoff pissed they spiked the price. Microsoft has no no reason to spike up the price, none. What? Is it to make up the costs of the servers? Hmmmm, then why the hell are there adds as soon as I'm on my home screen? Or how about those Master Chief toys and Master Chief Booty-Sweat Flavored Doritos? To me, those things are also bringing in the bacon for Microsoft. Timed exclusive DLC is also bringing in cash for Microsoft Better yet, let's talk about how Indie developers and smaller developers are screwed when it comes to patches because Microsoft charges $40,000 PER patch. "How dare you complain! Not only do you pay just to play games but to use apps!!!" Well correct me if I'm wrong, Didn't MS get rid of some apps, such as twitter and facebook? So am I paying the extra 10 dollars for apps I do not use? Seriously Hulu? The step brother of Netflix? Almost any app is pointless because I can just whip out my Macbook Pro and do just the same minus the terrible interface that Xbox has. PLEASE tell me it's not going to Internet Explorer 10, no one likes Internet Explorer, who would be use IE on their Xbox while the power of the internet is in your phone and probably a 100 times faster to access then loading up your xbox/quitting a game, going to the menu and loading IE10 then googling a walkthrough of a game. I guess what I'm trying to say is, why on earth did MS decide to raise the price of a year's worth of Xbox? The quality of the User Interface has decreased, the quality of presentation has flatlined, the complete package has decreased in value. TL;DR In no way does MS deserved the increase of Xbox Live price. [Edited on 01.03.2013 3:46 PM PST]

Even this year when I bought a 12 month card in November it seemed to be about the same price, this is in Canada and not America though.
Did you ever get that promotional Xbox that Microsoft sent out to decade-term members?
No, I did not. But damn if I don't deserve it, I was actually online the day Live started.

It may give you an idea as to why certain things cost what they do. You stated they had no reason to bump the price, so what were you implying? My statement actually has no fanboy sentiment in it whatsoever, i'm just annoyed at these type of comments that show strong ignorance of how product costing works.
OH GAWD!!! Microsofts' Q4 Earnings stated that their Online Services, had an 8% Increase! with a revenue of 0.74 Billion! OH GAWD Their Entertainment and Devices had it even WORSE! With a 20% Increase with a revenue 1.79 Billion! They're in bad shape! They were even SSSSSOOO Poor they couldn't buy Yammer for 1.2 Billion, make $300 million investment in Barnes n Nobles, acquire patents worth over a billion, then sell half of them to Facebook for 500 million!!! Hell Microsoft is so tight on money Vivendi didn't even have them on the list of THE FEW potential buyers of the Billions-dollar-worth Activision
Now take that sad attempt at being clever and compare that to Sony, who gives away similar services for free.

 •
Posted by: NuTTy Hobo Bum I can still buy it for about £30-£40 here in the UK. The price hasn't gone up here, but then again I buy my 12 month membership from places like amazon, play.com and ebay. You'd have to be plain silly to buy a year membership from Game (UK's Gamestop).
How so? Though the Game one is apparently "on sale", I haven't seen it higher than that for ages.

 • They hiked the price up so that they can make more money, advertise us more stuff we don't need/want, can advertise services that XBL doesn't pay for (Netflix, Vudu, etc). Honestly, if they hike it up any more, I'm done. My PS3 is perfectly fine, and I don't have to pay anything to play online.

 • You see, each Xbox 360 costs Microsoft $500 to make. They sell Xbox's for about $300. They need to make up the lost cash in XBL, games, and DLC. [Edited on 01.03.2013 5:35 PM PST]
