Simply put, what do you believe the most jarring moment in any video game is? I'd advise only picking one, choose wisely.
I would have to say Shepard's betrayal in MW2 was the most jarring. It came out of no where in the middle of a very intense mission, leading to the deaths of two characters you had grown to love. That moment is one of the only times I have ever gotten emotional over a video game. I was angry at Shepard and had a drive to kill him. I was sad that these two characters died after that in such an unexpected way. Price coming over the radio as the two were burned alive really sealed the deal for me, one of those help is too late moments. Heavy stuff for a game series most take for granted. Also as a side not destroying Infinity Ward was the most idiotic move Activision ever made.
Posted by: Prophet0fValor Mass Effect 3, the whole game but I didn't notice till the ending Xenogears 2nd disc. Thank you so much Final Fantasy VIII
I do agree, until the end Mass Effect 3 was quite intensely awesome.

Nevermind about those. Jarring, eh? Doms death in GoW 3 was pretty big. [Edited on 11.29.2012 12:49 PM PST]

It seems my definition of jarring is different from a lot of people in this thread.
Posted by: darthnazgul Halo 4 was quite jarring in one scene. "Reclaimer, I am the Librarian. Macguffin, plot point, Macguffin, villain, chosen one, exposition, Macguffin, backstory, Macguffin. Did you get all that?" Just not the kind of thing you expect from a Halo game. The Walking Dead's bipolar characters can lead to this for me as well. It felt like talking with goldfish sometimes. Pretty much all of Mass Effect 3 was jarring. From the incorrect face of my Shepard to the amount of auto-dialogue.
Reminds of in the Halo 4 terminals. Spoilers Where the Lord of Admirals has no choice but to cleanse a planet of all life, and you can clearly see the desperation in his face and voice. That really showed off the futility of the flood war nicely. END

none come to mind instantly. a few emotional moments come to mind, but not jarring. i didnt care about the death in MW2. it was a little bit of a surprise, but i feel the characters werent developed anywhere near enough, and i felt no connection to the character. i just gave a confused expression for a few seconds then got back to playing like nothing happened. Spec Ops the line was an extreme game. It literally tortured you with guilt. No game has been the same since.
Posted by: Ness4side The ending of CoD4 shocked me quite a bit. This was back when it was still a bit taboo to kill off numerous main characters in video games (now it happens all the time). I loved MW1 and MW2 campaigns.
And yet somehow COD is labeled generic just for it's multiplayer. Sad really. Especially when I hear praise for the Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2's soundtracks, yet people call Black Ops 2's generic. Same composer, same great work. Ignorant people. I also find it funny that 343i highly publicized they recorded in Abby Road Studio, yet almost know one knows the Black Ops 2's entire soundtrack was recorded there as well. Recording location should not ever be made a selling point.
Posted by: xSapphire Not enough people played Spec Ops: The Line.

Posted by: Simba Too Cold The moment when you realize what is going on in Spec Ops.
This. You get to then only to realize how badly you screwed up you have to chose whether or not to live with those choices. I think theres a total of 5 endings, only in two of them do you live. Then theres The Gate chapter, i saw that part on youtube before playing and it still got me. Yahtzee's review of the game sums up quite a few emotional aspects of the game pretty well in my opinion. I just really hate how people keep considering it another COD clone, something or other. IE: Generic Third Person shooter, save the world type thing, only you don't. Cognitive Dissonance is so much fun.
