• I'd say that Halo 5 does not take place on Requiem. The Didact's dead already and Spartan Ops should close up the shield world's story. The story might focus on the state of the Human-Covenant truce against the ONI agents who committed treason and the Elite terrorists. The librarian's AI could be the base for Chief's new AI partner (since you're recovering it in spartan ops), if he still chooses to have one. When the galaxy's races are all united, they could start learning about the precursors and work on finding a permanent solution against their creation, the flood.

 •
Posted by: TheSpiderChief I think the Didact will return to get revenge. Halo 5 is supposed to be the darkest Halo in the entire series, so it should be good.
If it is indeed the darkest Halo, then I propose the following: 1. I agree the Didact will be back, there is no way that such a supposedly "powerful" being would be gone that easily. 2. Pretty sure Cortana will be back, maybe like in the beginning of Halo 3 where you see her in your visor...or maybe it will be like Obi-Wan Kanobi in Star Wars "Use the Force...Shield, John." 3. Lasky will probably be seriously injured or die. 4. And it will also be revealed that Chief is the Didact's son, and John will probably lose a forearm or something, while shouting NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Halo 5: The Didact Strikes Back

 • why is it so hard to play halo4 campaign? I have been a fan of halo ever since I have scene the first ever offical release video where they are assualting a forerunner compound. does the game really need to stray that far from it's orignal course to be great? my answer would be, no. however the story goes, covenant pure.

 • Am I the only one that wants to have Halo 5 focus on resolving this whole thing with the Storm Covenant? I've never personally been a huge fan of the new schism with the factions allowing us to fight more Covies in the new Halo trilogy, and I'd like for there to be a resolution to this in Halos 5 and 6. Also, I'd personally love to know how the UNSC is explaining the whole "Sorry, but this alien came out of unknown space and incinerated a city's population." in-between the games.

 • I think the game will mainly be around the capitol, it shall reveal the masterbuilders plans, connected to the didact...And more, more normal forerunners.

 • We all thought Gandalf died after he fell with the Balrog. And look how that turned out. (Come to think of it, 343 totally ripped that scene from LotR) She even says there's a "slipspace event" under the Composer. But yeah, the level description is just generalizing the main events that just happened. She's dead (for now), and Chief thinks she's truly dead. And for all we know, she is. But it's not impossible to SPECULATE that she's alive. Same with the Didact.

 •
Posted by: Xd00999 Where did we see Cortana go into Didact's suit? We see those copies of Cortana leaping towards Didact and then restraining him, but that does not look like she is actively downloading herself into the suit. As far as we know, Cortana was still in the warship's systems when the nuke went off. If you can show me where she downloaded herself, that would be nice.
The copies of Cortana are still Cortana... The others were in the warship's systems, that's how she got control of the light bridge. Even at the end, Cortana says "most of me is down there" - it's still her. The first Cortana binds the Didact's arm, and once the next 2 bind the other arm he's using to hold John, another 2 circle around him and jump into his helmet. At this point, Cortana is in the Didact's suit - hence "most of me is down there"...
However, the AI in slipspace came from the Datapads, right? Since 343 seems to be ignoring those completely, I would be surprised if they decide to take only a single tidbit of info from them just so that Cortana survives. Waste of good plot.
No, it was from Halsey's journal, which they have brought up a number of times. It's a "waste of good plot" because they've not done anything with it yet? There's still over 6 years for them to do something with the Data Pads, there was no opportunity for the Assembly to have any role in Halo 4 anyway... [Edited on 11.24.2012 8:06 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: ajw34307 To be fair, the description is not going to say she's alive, it's just generalising events. At this point, we are led to believe she's dead - but the fact that we see her go into the Didact's suit, who then falls into slipspace, where Halsey speculated an AI could become an almost godlike being, could support the idea that Cortana is alive in some form. We know from the Epilogue that the DIdact is still alive, Cortana's actual fate is yet unknown.
Where did we see Cortana go into Didact's suit? •
Posted by: ash501st "spoilers" I'm gonna say that Cortana will definitely be back, even if just for a short appearance, I'm hoping that this time we will actually go on a halo again, or some other forerunner structure. I'm sure that the Didact will be back, he obviously isn't dead. I'm curious how much story will be shown in the spartan ops, I'm really hoping in halo 5 they explain why the covies are back and why we are fighting the elites again....who is even leading them? Cus last I checked Chief killed all of the prophets, well the ones he didn't others did haha.
Does anyone read the books?

 •
Posted by: ash501st
Metastability (the last stage of Marathon rampancey) does not turn an AI into a physical being, how would that even work? It makes them fully human mentally and emotionally, but not physically, that would require nothing short of magic. You don't even know that metastability is possible in Halo, it's a thing from an entirely different franchise! In Halo rampancy seems to work more like schizophrenia then the 7 stages of rampancy described in Marathon.

 • How do you know she is not dead in the summary of the level it says that she is dead. I would like her to come back in Halo 5.

The Didact reluctantly teams up with Chief and co. to combat the true enemy, the Flood/Precursers. Cliffhanger ending.
So, just to make it clear for everyone not familiar with Bungie's Marathon series; rampancy has many stages and the last stage (which is what Cortana ends on) is sentient, so Cortana is alive in a sense. This is why she was able to touch master chief at the end of halo 4.
Eh, no. She could touch the Chief because she was in control of the hard-light. She created a physical version of her avatar.
What makes you say that? I was pretty sure it was because she reached the final stage of rampancy.
Play that level again and pay attention. Cortana was in the ship's system so she had control of the hardlight bridge. She used it to restrain the Didact and save the Chief by wrapping the hardlight around him. She didn't literally turn into a physical being.
Yeah, I understand what your saying but thats still what happens at the end of rampancy, so its going to end up happening at some point one way or another. And because everyone seems so confused with this, Cortana is not dead, she did not die, and of course she will be in Halo 5.

 • On halo 5 you need to be able to hold more than two guns and create a different species rather than the covenant the flood and forerunners.

She could touch him because he was now digital like herself. And that would also explain how he survived a point blank nuclear blast.
the composer was destroyed, and MC is immune to it anyway. Not to mention if he was composed by cortana he would have come out an "abomination" when he was returned to organic form (that's what the librarian said happens when decomposing someone).

Cortana was always sentient. 3. Becoming metastable wouldn't magically turn you into a real boy. She would still be a machine, and would still manifest as a hologram. The reason she could touch chief and attack the Didact was because she was using hard light.
