I just wrote a police officer a ticket

So today I saw a police officer parked in a yellow "no parking zone" But he wasn't responding to an emergency, He was at a 7-11 and he walked out with a big gulp. He was abusing his status as a police officer. And this is how I am about to knock him down a level for it. I live in Oregon. In Oregon it is a little known fact that you don't have to be a police officer, or a parking attendant to write someone a parking ticket. See ORS 153.058 Now back to the story. as the officer was coming out as soon as I saw that he was parked illegally I took a picture of him ( as he was coming out holding his big gulp, and of his car parked illegally. AND of him getting into his car. This is all of the evidence that I need to issue him a citation. I went on down to the police station and initiated the proceedings of filing the citation. Filled out his ticket, and took it down to the court house as per the instructions. At the courthouse I gave the nearly-finished ticket to the clerk who found an available court date. And then signed the ticket. And took an oath that the information was correct. This police officer is now going to receive the ticket in the mail with his court date. I will also be going to this court date where I will be presenting the photographic evidence of his illegal parking. He will have no excuse. tl;dr I wrote a police officer a ticket, and now he must appear in court. UPDATE: 500 replies w00t, I will be posting the pictures AFTER the court date. Due to legal/security reasons. [Edited on 11.18.2012 6:31 PM PST]

 •
Posted by: noah5150 *cops breaks law, people get upset cop got punished* Some the the people around here act like the 10 year olds from CoD. Makes me sad.
The guy sits in a car for 8 hours or more a day, and makes a quick stop to get a drink, parks in the a "No Parking" because there aren't any nearby parking spots, and God only knows when he'll get a chance to get a drink, and Mr.Citizen-Of-The-Year decided that he should spend half a day bringing him to justice, for what reason? Because he parked in a no parking zone. Please, stop debating , and examine this. Why. In God's name. Would the cop. Deserve. To be. Fined. For parking. In an empty parking spot. Long enough to get a drink. This isn't a debate. The facts are, the man did nothing wrong. In all probability he was there for less than 3 minuets. Funk gets the Tool of the Month award, and he's in the top 3 for Tool of the year. The OP isn't a hero, he isn't "doing his civic duty", he's wasting time, and money, on a frivolous venture that probably has something to do with daddy issues.

Yeah... no, it's not the right thing. Your concept of the world in general, and this issue in particular, are elementary at best, juvenile on average, and, in the lowest of lows, simply unrealistic to a point of obvious ignorance.

I don't see what the big deal it. Its almost as if people think that police officers *should* be above the law. and allowed to do as they please.
You took time out of your day to be an ass. It's his job to write people up. You did it as a '-blam!- the police' thing. I bet that's the first time you've ever done it, and it's just because it was a policeman. If it had been a normal citizen (with the same exact scenario) you wouldn't have done it.

 •
Posted by: Garshne
Posted by: The Hired Gun Wow, dick move. Writing someone a ticket who risks his life to protect citizens all day.
So police officers are allowed to speed, park wherever they want, and just circumvent all these 'minor' laws?
Where I live, the cops will stop at a red light and then turn their sirens on so they can pass it. There is nothing bad going on they are just not patient enough to wait for the green light.

 • I can't belive people would waste their time doing such a thing. There's better things to do in life, stop caring about everyone else... especially a cop.

 • Hrm, well I know cops can be under a lot of pressure. It's a stressful job, making split second decisions that other people take hours to explain why it wasn't the best. Having to be the better man as often as one can. At least you are doing it without being an ass. [Edited on 11.18.2012 4:18 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: Cortland_Brewer You're such a douche bag, and you lack the vocabulary for me to quickly explain as to why what you did was a dick move. I'd have to build basic concepts first, get you to understand them, then show you how they work in a complex system so that you could understand that you were a D bag. It will take years for your monkey-brain to understand why you suck, and by then, you're likely to have done many more terrible things. Seriously, you saw this guy park real quick to get a drink, and your reaction was: "That son-of-a--blam!-! How DARE he park there to get a drink! I will make sure that the meager salary he makes is taxed even further by causing him to get a ticket on a victimless crime! That will teach him. After all, laws are 100% correct, and never, ever, under any circumstances, should they be altered, or bent due any reason what-so-ever. Further more, it is his fault for wanting to be a cop that his job sucks, never mind the fact that it is a thankless job that doesn't pay well. HE DESERVES TO BE PUNISHED! I will be the harbinger of justice, and I will teach this horrible human being what it means to be a police officer, of which I know everything about!" You suck man. The Flood sucks in general, but this is -blam!- stupid. I shouldn't blame you, because you are devoid of anything close to an intelligent thought, and thus, are technically brain dead, but at some point, you must have accidentally had something of a rational thought, and were simply too afraid to pursue it. I dare you to headbutt a knife, I -blam!- double-dog dare you! Why don't you play in traffic, and stay off the internet until you've at least attained the emotional stability of a 12 year old. I -blam!- hate you OP. Don't breed. Ever.
It's almost as if you were the Cop who got the ticket...... Regardless, you do have a point, besides all the flaming etc. I don't know about America, but police in my country get paid I think above the average wage..... well above that actually. I wouldn't care if he parked to just quickly get a soda, they are doing their best to keep our streets as clean as they can. And it's not like those parks are used 24/7, so nobody would really care to be honest. How many times have you been somewhere and seen a legit person parked in a disabled spot? Or whatever it was? Not very often. I do have problems with police using their sirens to go through traffic lights however....

Had he been responding to an emergency I of course would not have wrote him the citation. Getting a doughnut isn't "protecting us", remove that stupid notation from your head.

 • Really the only thing that balances out the abuse of power is that cops get killed in the line of duty. Oh wait, cops kill or wound innocent people more often than they themselves are killed by criminals.

 • The police and fire department are there to protect you. Be a man and politely mention to the officers boss that he is not serving the community well don't leave your name and number and then you loose the risk of having the thing backfire on you.
