Bungie, you make me anxious for the next 10 years of gaming.

..and I'm sure you'll make millions more anxious as we grow closer to 2013. Here we are a decade later from Xbox Live kickeding off the ground. Reports are out, interviews have been had. It's quite apparent that it's agreed that the direct success of Bungie's Halo 2 for Xbox Live was the kickstart for this online service. BUNGIE: Xbox Live wouldn't have made it without Halo Sub Link Inside - Harold Ryan, President of Bungie Studios, interview. Some quotes from the interview with Bungie:
By the end of its first month in stores, Halo 2 had sold more than 5 million copies. By the time Microsoft pulled the plug on original Xbox Live support in 2010, Halo 2 played host to 5.4 billion games. The game essentially defined Xbox Live during the original Xbox era, a fact that is not lost on the people who created it.

"I think Xbox Live wouldn't have made it," said Bungie's test manager in the run up to Halo 2's launch, Harold Ryan, now Bungie's president. "I don't think the Xbox would be where it is today without Bungie and without Halo.

Bungie's influence also led to the Xbox Live matchmaking process instead of game browsers and server lists seen in PC games. Until Bungie pushed for it, Xbox Live games didn't even have in-game friends lists, Hoberman said.
Now that we have friends lists overall for online consoles, Bungie originally created it for Halo 2 first. They kicked off Xbox Live for everyone else and now we're reflecting on it. I can't help but get excited for the next 10 years. Bungie has been working on their new project since 2007/08 and it's just right around the corner. What do you think of Bungie's innovation to online gaming? What do you expect to see in the next decade? Do you expect to be surprised? Do you not expect anything? I expect a huge game changer. Something that no one has ever seen before. Sure, you might call me a fanboy, but aren't we all to a certain degree, especially those who visit here daily? (You know who you are) Since Bungie has been quiet for the past couple years, I'm sure multiple game developers can't wait to see where Bungie places the bar next. 2013 is going to be a good year. Frog blast the ventcore.

 • Every time I speculate, I get the need for a bag so I don't hyperventilate.

 • It's absolutely fair to say that the Xbox wouldn't have survived without Halo, let alone XBL. Props to Bungie. I'm looking forward to seeing their next project now that they aren't shackled to a franchise long past its prime.

 • I heard it was like a mix of Elite and Halo. Speculation abound!

 •
Posted by: ARBITOR 5 Spawn, your threads are like drugs. They make me feel soooo good.
Meanwhile, in the UK. ;)
Posted by: FALSE R3ALITYx Gets me all hot and bothered.
That's hawt.
Posted by: Hylebos Imagine if we have a universe of procedurally generated planets to explore with friends. With plenty of AI and enemy players to fight, what need do we have for other games?
I think I would have a very difficult time being productive. Although I will admit that there are already open world games out there like this. Problem is that I have to pay a monthly fee for the better ones in order to remain active and play with friends. If Bungie could pull something like this off that I don't have to pay extra for, I'm hooked.

 • Xbox LIVE is quite good, I remember when I used to play with my friend on Kill All Humans for the Original Xbox. LOL

 • I do agree with that statement. I did enjoy multiplayer games before Xbox Live, small stuff that I only preferred playing against my friends with. Enter Halo; I started playing LAN's, local tournaments against strangers, ect. There was a big problem here, these events were time consuming and often expensive to organize. Enter Xbox Live support and Halo 2. I was given my answer a very much cheaper alternative to endless fun. It all started with a 3 month trial and now present day I enjoy Xbox Live for an entire host things, but it would have never gotten to this point without that nudge from Halo, and therefore Bungie.

 • I'd Like To Be Excited, But I Have No Reason To Be. Only Rumors I've Heard Are MMO, FPS, Factions, And Subscription Fee(Which I Try To Ignore, But The Possibility Of It Is Horrifing.)
