Why would anyone ever use Google and its services?

Given that this forum has a lot of Google and Chrome fanboys, I would figure that you all would find this to be informative.
Google's motivation, in all that it does, is to index your data an sell you to advertisers. Advertisers are the customers, and you are the product. Android, Gmail, the search engine, Google Drive, Google+, and so on--they all exist solely to index people's data and serve them ads. 96% of Google's revenue comes from advertising. It is their core business. Google Chrome Tracking: Installation-ID: A copy of Google Chrome includes a generated installation number which will be sent to Google after the installation and the first usage. Alternate Error Pages: Depending on the configuration, if you have typed a false address in the adress bar, this is sent to Google and you get an error message from Google's servers. Error Reporting: Depending on the configuration, details about crashes or failures are sent Google's servers. RLZ-Tracking: This Chrome-function transmits information in encoded form to Google, for example, when and where Chrome has been downloaded. Anyway, the OP is describing a problem with Windows Live ID, not a specific browser. The best solution for that kind of issue is to clear your cookies, restart your browser, and stop hitting "save password" when you sign into Windows Live ID.
Posted by:The EAKLE My thoughts exactly. Chrome is the way to go. I have issues on Bungie with IE and Firefox.
Posted by:Posted by: Meowth lol internet explorer

Posted by: Achronos I also maintain that Chrome is weaksauce, and IE9 is fast and works very well (I think it is much better than FF4, for example, with the exception of the Firebug addon).

Posted by: Achronos This is a bad plan.
Posted by: Posted by: BOB570 Use Google Chrome.

Posted by: Achronos Lol, no. Not even close. Chrome is fairly easy to support because it is essentially Safari (both use WebKit as their renderer). Of course, Safari isn't spyware. I mean, it is your business if you want to use a browser that, in its first iteration before everyone noticed, had a EULA that declared ownership of everything you typed into it. Now they "just" have an ultra-google toolbar in it. Do no evil, right? Sure. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, I guess. FF4 is a great browser, I just don't like using it very much except when using Firebug. IE9 is incredibly fast, and a solid product all around. IE8 is not - don't confuse the two.
Posted by: komark OT. Chrome is by far most widely used browser on this website. I think it should carry a little more weight on the web team.

Posted by:Achronos As far as we can tell, there is a hard to reproduce bug in Firefox 3.x - bungie.net is not the only site that this happens on. The problem is not reproducible on Firefox 4. Although, I've been using IE 9 lately given its rather remarkable performance and general improvement across the board. I'm not too impressed with Firefox 4, and Chrome, as usual, feels like Google spyware, no matter how many times they correct their EULA.

  • I've always maintained the opinion that the Internet can and will be used against you if certain people find it necessary. They give us an illusion of privacy and anonymity to see who and what we are so if or when the time comes, there's leverage to be used against you.

tl;dr But, based on the title, I definitely agree that Google's opinion in the public is much higher than it should be. It's one of those things it's always irked me. People are always willing to pan Apple, including Google, yet for some reason people have this idea that Google is like this user-friendly company. Other companies like Apple and Samsung constantly get blasted by Google for using people's information "incorrectly", but all Google does is steal your information on a regular basis without your permission. It's goddamn, ass backwards. It just goes to show that court of public opinion is the most important thing when it comes to your company's representation.

  • I give them some information, and in exchange, I get services. How is this any different from "free" versions of games? Where I get to play a game for free, but I get ads? If I want something for free, but I am not willing to give money for it, why is it wrong to give something else?

        •
Posted by: spartain ken 15
Posted by: RYAN71838 Why do people care if their browsing history is recorded by some one else? What are you doing on the internet you want it a secret?
So would you think it would be okay if a government car followed you everywhere you drive or planted cameras/bugs in your house? You have a right to privacy which encompasses the right to be free from surveillance. But all google does is sell info to advertising companies, usually this is done anonymously. If it is really an issue, don't make an account when using google or chrome.
If they did not judge me and simply used it to make my personal government experience better, then I wouldn't mind.

        • You're laughing? *rages* YOU'RE LAUGHING OUT LOUD?? YOU THINK I'M FUNNY?!? IT'S TRUE! YOUR'E OLD! INTERNET EXPLORER IS GARBAGE MAN! THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT BROWSER IS BETTER! IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A SPELL CHECK! I swear man you're a troll. YOU JUST ARE! IF YOU SERIOUSLY THINK THAT CHROME IS GARBAGE, THEN EXPLAIN TO ME IN A LONG PM WHY INTERNET EXPLORER IS BETTER THAN CHROME AND WHY I SHOULD SHOULD SWITCH TO IT!!! Maybe then I'll stop raging. -_- But until then, I'm using Chrome. I've had no problem with it and I personally think it's the best browser available aside from Firefox and opera, and if you "lol" at that.... He doesn't understand that Chrome is actually better. He believes that Internet Explorer is actually superior. He is completely wrong, Internet Explorer is heavily flawed. I bet he's only saying this stuff because of his job and he probably gets an extra amount of money in his paycheck if he advertises a Microsoft product. That or he's old. Chrome actually allows me to do many things that I couldn't do with any other browser. I also have been using YouTube since 2010. While I'm not a big fan of Google, I can't complain. They're products aren't bad. I lost a lot of respect when Achronos said that Coup is garbage and he's going to do whatever he can to destroy it in the next update. So I honestly don't care what he thinks. He's old.

[Edited on 11.11.2012 9:20 AM PST]
