Clannad

There have been a few posts on the flood about anime here recently. I myself am not an avid anime viewer, i've really only watched one consistently, and that was Clannad. It is definitely worth checking out if you have not seen it. I was wondering how many flood posters had seen it, and what your thoughts on it were?

 •
Posted by: forcereconFR13 I loved the second series. I was a beautiful story- and first season really added the background needed to build up in the second- ever being generic at the start.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Second season is totally worth watching through the first.

 •
Posted by: Jin Kisaragi
Posted by: TH3_AV3NG3R Yes I understand but it goes nicely with the story and characters. You should definitely pick it up again. You might be able to connect to that character once you know her past. The story of their pasts are realistic.
Mehh. You can do a supernatural plot and still have it be ""realistic"". For instance, I felt that AnoHana: What was the name of the Flower we saw that day, did this really well. There was a ghost, of course, but everyones reactions felt realistic to me, and the conflict felt "real". With Clannad, it's hard for me to connect to an anime where girls can send boys flying across the entire hall with a single kick, take out biker gangs, have girls with unrealistic physical defects (the girl that gets 'lost' in her hand when the main guy usually plays pranks on her when she does it), and in an anime where theres a ghost and everybodies reaction is "Meh, who cares?". Just...I just couldn't keep watching. I can't connect to something like that.
It isn't because no cares... I would still resume watching it but whatever.

Just...I just couldn't keep watching. I can't connect to something like that. The conflict did not feel real and I couldn't connect to it at all. For me to connect to an anime, the conflict must feel real and believable. Clannad was not believable. Maybe it gets better in season two but I just couldn't get that far. • Couldn't keep watching it. Stopped after two episodes. Then played 50 cent songs while I muted the first episode's audio to see the song and the characters' mouths sync from time to time.

 •
Posted by: Jin Kisaragi
Posted by: TH3_AV3NG3R I did watch after story before the first season. Still cried manly tears.
Nice phantom - requiem for the phantom coup you got there. Such a great series. I appreciated how dark, mature, and realistic it was. Maybe i'll pick Clannad up again sometime, I just don't know how i'm supposed to connect to the characters if they're thrown in such supernatural situations : /, they really lose me when they do that.
Thanks. Someone told me my coup was atrocious in this other thread. Yes I understand but it goes nicely with the story and characters. You should definitely pick it up again. You might be able to connect to that character once you know her past. The story of their pasts are realistic. [Edited on 10.05.2012 11:56 PM PDT]

However, you have to watch the original before after story, so...
I did watch after story before the first season. Still cried manly tears.

 • TAC is on the ball tonight. Thoughts, well... I didn't cry. That is a feat that I rarely see anyone accomplish for whatever reason. Unlike most, it just doesn't hit me the way that it was intended. The only person throughout the story that I felt relatively bad for was Tomoya. That was it, I felt bad.

 • i watched clannad and almost cried on episode two. i stopped watching as soon as I realized it was supernatural, and wasn't realistic at all. (the instant I realized a certain someone was actually a ghost) Immediately lost all interest when that happened. Shame, it had so much potential up until that point. I much perfer realistic animes thank you. [Edited on 10.05.2012 11:35 PM PDT]

I understand though, the highschool scene is overplayed soo much, its awful. But clannad uses it to make a masterpiece of the second season.
