NOTICE: I am not claiming that anybody here has done anything to deserve any recognition whatsoever. This is merely a fun idea.
The names of active users could be generated by post history for the past year. Every post has a time stamp (look at the bottom of your post) so I imagine compiling a list would not be that hard for Bungie to do.
I posted almost an identical post to this in a thread, but I felt it bears it's own thread. The basic idea was not mine, although I cannot recall who thought of it first.
In essence, the idea would be to create a Vietnam Memorial-style wall with references to all the members here on B.net who stayed active throughout the darkness. The names would go something like the following:
Brig Gen Foman
Maj Burrito
SSgt Mythical Wolf
Brig Gen Duardo
Col Evilcam
Gen Achronos
Etc.
Granted, there would be several thousand names on it, but that honestly is not all that many if they are packed front and back on a wall. Ranks could be determined based on trust rating and title prefixes.
(Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = PVT
Honorable (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Cpl
Veteran (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = SSgt
Noble (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = MSgt
Senior (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = MGySgt
Elder (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = SgtMaj
Intrepid (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = 1st Lt
Fabled (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Capt
Exalted (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Maj
Forum Ninja = Col
Master Forum Ninja = Brig Gen
Bungie Employee = Lt Gen
Superuser = Gen
(All of these are legitimate Marine Corps ranks, but they could just as well be fictional if that was somehow preferable)
Posted by: MasterSin This reminds me a lot to my Halo 3 member memorial wall when Halo 3 came out... good ol' days Why I don't see my name on the list?
He's just using examples.
-
Haven't they already said thank you to us for staying though? The way I see it they don't owe us anything for still posting here...I dunno just my thought.
Posted by: TheSpiderChief Some recognition would be nice from Bungie for staying with them.
Guess I'd be Master Sergeant then.

Since this idea would likely not serve any gameplay purpose if it were implemented, I think it could be a nice nod to the community.
Posted by: ddfaf4 How are you going to tell which people stayed and which did not?
There are time stamps on every forum post you make, and most likely a "last logged in" property on your account record.

I honestly don't think it would be that hard to create the list.

Hey, where's my name....hell where's the list?
Posted by: BC1096 Hey, where's my name....hell where's the list?
The list would be automatically compiled by Bungie prior to implementation in the game.

I don't need any in-game recognition, all I want is to know about the game before the public. Even just 24 hours in advance would be cool.
That would be really cool too, although you must realize that it's the Internet and within minutes after we know, the rest of the public will know. Unless... unless bungie PM'd all active users a unique code (as in changing for ever user) that gave them access to a certain website that had the information. Make release an uncopiable (except perhaps by printscreen and other nefarious methods) picture with the release information. That would keep the public from knowing for at least an hour or so. Or perhaps I underestimate the tenacity of online users.

I don't know why we would deserve a memorial all we did was post in the forums. And what's this darkness that you speak of.

I guess it would be cool, but I'm not sure how it is gonna work.
-
It would be awesome if their was some form of memorial for us in destiny! But i feel like that's asking for to much
-
Honestly just feels like another thing for others to feel superior about.
-
Ehhh I'm not all for this idea

Gamers are humorous. As a culture, we are always feeling entitled to special treatment if we were "there" (wherever "there" may be) before someone else. Can you imagine how silly it would sound if Apple fans thought that people who owned Apple products before the iPhone deserve some kind of special iPad or their names engraved on the back or something? In all honesty, we sound like bratty hipsters asking for things like this. Maybe we should come to this site because we have fun talking with other community members, not because we're hoping for a reward later.

Cpl. Noob here. [Edited on 10.17.2012 5:33 PM PDT]

Interesting idea. I'd like to see where it leads

You think it would count if I had actually been here the whole time watching, but not really contributed anything?

We do not deserve anything. I am not claiming we do. This was merely an idea for an easter egg. If you happen to dislike the idea, okay, but please to not make me out to be some entitled brat.

This is what the thread turned into though.
Posted by: Make117 This is just an internet forum, we have done absolutely nothing to deserve having our usernames in the game.
Seems like a waste of time. This idea is a no-go
