NOTICE: I am not claiming that anybody here has done anything to deserve any recognition whatsoever. This is merely a fun idea.
The names of active users could be generated by post history for the past year. Every post has a time stamp (look at the bottom of your post) so I imagine compiling a list would not be that hard for Bungie to do.
I posted almost an identical post to this in a thread, but I felt it bears it's own thread. The basic idea was not mine, although I cannot recall who thought of it first.
In essence, the idea would be to create a Vietnam Memorial-style wall with references to all the members here on B.net who stayed active throughout the darkness. The names would go something like the following:
Brig Gen Foman
Maj Burrito
SSgt Mythical Wolf
Brig Gen Duardo
Col Evilcam
Gen Achronos
Etc.
Granted, there would be several thousand names on it, but that honestly is not all that many if they are packed front and back on a wall. Ranks could be determined based on trust rating and title prefixes.
(Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = PVT
Honorable (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Cpl
Veteran (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = SSgt
Noble (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = MSgt
Senior (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = MGySgt
Elder (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = SgtMaj
Intrepid (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = 1st Lt
Fabled (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Capt
Exalted (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Maj
Forum Ninja = Col
Master Forum Ninja = Brig Gen
Bungie Employee = Lt Gen
Superuser = Gen
(All of these are legitimate Marine Corps ranks, but they could just as well be fictional if that was somehow preferable)

How about a pre-announced day (starting at 12:00 Pacific Time) in which one could have their name in it. First 300-400 names get into the game, scratched on a wall in a cave somewhere. Maybe there's a boulder you have to blow up to get into it and a campfire in the middle, and on each of the logs of the campfire it says something like "Mail Sack", "Ride Alongs", "Community Joes", "The Flood", and other things that kept us "alive", as it were, during the "Darkness". e: You would type in the name you wanted in the cave, and any ones seen as profane by the Bungie employees would be removed, and those slots could be prizes for future Mail Sacks. e2: Either the above for prizes, or only go up to 275-375 and give those remaining 25 slots away as prizes.
Posted by: Elite Mouse I wouldn't get my hopes up. Let's be realistic, do you think Bungie actually cares enough to write down a ton of names and use up resources just to acknowledge a bunch of people desperate for recognition? How do you even go about doing this? Make a thread, leave it open for a week? 5 hours and that news will spread like wildfire, and you'll have 100s and 100s of pages from people that don't even own an xbox, but just want their name in a video game. Oh, and having the creators of this idea having an elevated position on this supposed wall? Really? I almost choked on the desperation when I entered this thread. None of you have done anything to deserve this either. What, you decided to check in on this forum once in a while? Made the great effort of signing in and posting "omg destiny so good destiny yeah baby"? Please. If anything, all you are getting is a single line at the end of the credits that says "thanks to all of our fans for their support during the darkness". No individual names, no hidden easter egg. Just a blanket thank you that allows Bungie to acknowledge their fans while not having to worry about the thousands of people that would complain because their name didn't go on the wall.
I agree whoever came up with this idea is a complete idiot. I don't care if it's for fun. So what if this is to keep you guys occupied while you loyally and patiently wait for the next game. FUN IS NOT ALLOWED HERE. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Posted by: Elite Mouse
I don't believe that anyone is getting their hopes up, or at least they shouldn't. We should all know that the likelihood of this happening is slim to none, but it's just fun to talk about. Seriously, the conversation in this forum is quite dry enough as it is. I like the idea, even though the possibility of it happening are not even close to slim and definitely none.

That is an awesome idea, were Bungie to do an easter egg like that. [Edited on 10.01.2012 7:09 AM PDT]

Regardless if of the titles assigned by the OP, it would be a really neat thing for a game developer to do. I dont feel like we should be entitled to it, just that it is something that no other developer has done that I know of.
-
I love the idea, it would make a nice easter egg. If a large scale version is unworkable perhaps Bungie could incorporate the Memorial Wall concept in a similar way to Recon Armour in Halo, and reserve it for members of the Seventh Column who do something noteworthy.
-
I could be wrong but from where I stand nobody in this forum, other than the employees, have done anything to help create Destiny. I really don't feel like anyone deserves this kind of recognition, except possibly the forum ninjas for helping moderate the website.

Maybe not a wall type memorial, but more like a building style memorial, and at the bottom of this building, the foundation blocks would have our names on them. Because we are the foundation of the community. I like the general idea.
Posted by: Cobravert What he said. No one knows enough about the next game to form any ideas on this anyhow. They don't owe us anything.
I never claimed that we did. This is becoming such a prevalent post that I edited the OP.
Posted by: Colingo I love the idea, it would make a nice easter egg. I'm game. What do you need?
-
Shouldn't it be a memorial wall to those who left during the darkness?
Posted by: Primo84 This is a silly idea, and it has my full support.
I'm sorry... Why is it people that come here for free, and get to use a forum for free, should somehow deserve to have their names put into a game that OTHER people have put their blood sweat and tears into? Be a little bit more sensible about things.

If you had, you would have seen that I do not believe that we in any way deserve this, merely that it would be an interesting Easter Egg for Bungie to implement.

Man, that'd be difficult. Just imagine how much space it'd take up.
-
I guess I would be a Major. But, this would be a pretty good idea, though I don't know if they could fit evryones usernames on a single wall.

As you would note, I did not say, "OP YOURE DUMB FOR THINKING THIS." I stated, "Why would we deserve this?" Cool Easter Eggs are designed for people who've earned to be a part of them. We've earned nothing. [Edited on 10.16.2012 7:25 PM PDT]

We deserve nothing. And I mean that literally. What have we done to deserve freedom? Or clean water? Is this an extreme example? Probably, but the point remains: not all things are given because they are deserved. In this case, Bungie has always been a fan-oriented studio. They make games for their fans and for themselves. This would be an inventive way to show their appreciation and love of those who support them. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Posted by: SonicJohn I'll be the War Photographer.
I support this action.

Cool idea. If Bungie doesn't respond, you should make it yourself. Waits for OP to deliver [Edited on 10.16.2012 7:55 PM PDT]

Personally I enjoy these forums simply for what they are, but I do see a point--albeit small--in rewarding the regulars for remaining faithful through over a year of darkness, even though it is Bungie themselves who are the instigators of the atmosphere we so cherish and visit these forums for. Maybe not through a list though.. :S

This reminds me a lot to my Halo 3 member memorial wall when Halo 3 came out... good ol' days Why I don't see my name on the list?
