Destiny Member Memorial Wall
[b][u]NOTICE:[/u][/b] I am not claiming that anybody here has done anything to deserve any recognition whatsoever. This is merely a fun idea.
The names of active users could be generated by post history for the past year. Every post has a time stamp (look at the bottom of your post) so I imagine compiling a list would not be that hard for Bungie to do.
I posted almost an identical post to this in a thread, but I felt it bears it's own thread. The basic idea was not mine, although I cannot recall who thought of it first.
In essence, the idea would be to create a Vietnam Memorial-style wall with references to all the members here on B.net who stayed active throughout the darkness. The names would go something like the following:
Brig Gen Foman
Maj Burrito
SSgt Mythical Wolf
Brig Gen Duardo
Col Evilcam
Gen Achronos
Etc.
Granted, there would be several thousand names on it, but that honestly is not all that many if they are packed front and back on a wall. Ranks could be determined based on trust rating and title prefixes.
(Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = PVT
Honorable (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Cpl
Veteran (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = SSgt
Noble (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = MSgt
Senior (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = MGySgt
Elder (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = SgtMaj
Intrepid (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = 1st Lt
Fabled (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Capt
Exalted (Heroic, Legendary, Mythic) Member = Maj
Forum Ninja = Col
Master Forum Ninja = Brig Gen
Bungie Employee = Lt Gen
Superuser = Gen
(All of these are legitimate Marine Corps ranks, but they could just as well be fictional if that was somehow preferable)

Honestly, I like the idea, but I doubt Bungie would take the time out to do this nor do I expect them to. I don't feel like Bungie owes me for anything, let alone for being active on their forum. [Edited on 09.30.2012 1:28 PM PDT]

I like the sound of that. Lol. Now all joking aside. If BUNGIE were to actually do this. How would they decide who to put on the memorial? Just download some information from their servers? Maybe DeeJ or Urk would make a thread a leave it open for a while. So all those who post in it would be on the wall. Also, with all this stuff running through my head, am I the only one who will be dissapointed if this doesn't happen?

It's not so much that I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen as I'll be excited if it does. And I think they can simply pull a list of names based off who was active between a certain start and end date.

As cool as it would be for Bungie to acknowledge us somewhere in Destiny, don't get your hopes up; us hanging around the forum isn't exactly noteworthy enough to warrant such recognition. I think people are setting themselves up for disappointment here.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Let's be realistic, do you think Bungie actually cares enough to write down a ton of names and use up resources just to acknowledge a bunch of people desperate for recognition? How do you even go about doing this? Make a thread, leave it open for a week? 5 hours and that news will spread like wildfire, and you'll have 100s and 100s of pages from people that don't even own an xbox, but just want their name in a video game. Oh, and having the creators of this idea having an elevated position on this supposed wall? Really? I almost choked on the desperation when I entered this thread. None of you have done anything to deserve this either. What, you decided to check in on this forum once in a while? Made the great effort of signing in and posting "omg destiny so good destiny yeah baby"? Please. If [b]anything[/b], all you are getting is a single line at the end of the credits that says "thanks to all of our fans for their support during the darkness". No individual names, no hidden easter egg. Just a blanket thank you that allows Bungie to acknowledge their fans while not having to worry about the thousands of people that would complain because their name didn't go on the wall.

If I have done so, please, by all means show me so that I might erase such a comment. We do not deserve any recognition whatsoever, but nor do we deserve dessert or television or entertainment in general. Such things are merely enjoyable; we are not entitled to them. As for how Bungie might enact such an Easter Egg, I would imagine it would be possible for them to take a list of users who were active over the last year or so. The elevated positions, as you say, mean absolutely nothing. It was merely a way to fill the void of upper ranks with something other than normal members who would be liable to claim superiority due to said rank. If you could shed your skepticism for mere moment or two, and could avoid calumny for but a second, you might see this thread for what it is: a comical suggestion meant to alleviate the tension.

How about a pre-announced day (starting at 12:00 Pacific Time) in which one could have their name in it. First 300-400 names get into the game, scratched on a wall in a cave somewhere. Maybe there's a boulder you have to blow up to get into it and a campfire in the middle, and on each of the logs of the campfire it says something like "Mail Sack", "Ride Alongs", "Community Joes", "The Flood", and other things that kept us "alive", as it were, during the "Darkness". e: You would type in the name you wanted in the cave, and any ones seen as profane by the Bungie employees would be removed, and those slots could be prizes for future Mail Sacks. e2: Either the above for prizes, or only go up to 275-375 and give those remaining 25 slots away as prizes.
