Definitely the most underrated Halo game ever. I just beat ODST on legendary, not only to get a whopping 300 GS, but also to revisit the game. I have to say, I haven't had that much fun in a video game in quite a while. The story was just so great, and the characters really made playing the game an awesome experience.
ITT: Post what you love about Halo 3 ODST

I definitely loved the music and story of ODST.

ODST is a model of near-perfection in terms of campaign for the Halo series. The juxtaposition of the storyline with the flashbacks and Sadie's story is some of the best storytelling seen in a game since the first Bioshock, the story itself felt very compelling with Marty's sublime soundtrack (his magnum opus, next to Halo 2 of course) and the stunning skyboxes. There were a lot of memorable moments in it too, I absolutely loved seeing the space elevator collapsing and then going back to Halo 3 and seeing remnants of it scattered around the environment. ODST felt like a game of consequence, everything that you did was reflected somewhere else either in the game or in Halo 3 which was a very good way to link the stories. Also, Firefight was the best in ODST. Because of things like weaker melee, less health and the 'rationing' of ammunition/supplies you were made to work together as a team to take down enemies. It was a very cooperative-driven experience and proved to be incredibly rewarding when you were doing well. Unfortunately, in Reach there's no aspect of teamwork at all. People just horde the power weapons with unlimited ammo along with jetpacks to get above the enemy and rack up the points for credits, you don't even have to care about others because friendly fire isn't on and you can pretty much guarantee that they're going the same thing as you with your rocket launcher/fuel rod and jetpack... Frankly, we all said we wanted to customise our Firefight experience but when given those options... well, I can't find more than a dozen-or-so gametypes that don't say "1,000,000 CREDITS QUICK!" or some -blam!- like that. I think it was better when players were forced into submission by the iron fist of a Chieftain, then you'd take him down and say, "man, that guy was a dick!".

ODST doesn't have the best story or gameplay from the Halo series, but it still has some something that makes it the best. The entire sense of mystery you get in New Mombassa from the Covenant glyphs, and exploring the city both made the game great. It's a pity it's so underrated.

I personally loved ODST. i have been with the halo series from the bieginning in 2001 and thought that this had the second best story right behind halo 2

I agree, Halo 3: ODST was the most underrated Halo game. The one thing that I love the most in Halo 3: ODST is how big the environment is for New Mombasa.

ODST is my third favourite Halo. My favourite thing about it was the city. Taking place in a human environment so similar to the cities we live in added a whole new level of believability to the Halo Universe. The previous games mainly took place on big alien space stations, and while the stories were fantastic, it could have been any other science fiction franchise. The somewhat familiar city in ODST makes it feel a lot more realistic and believable However, firefight is ruined by two things, drones and forced skulls. Without these I would probaby be playing ODST firefight non stop, but those damn skulls I dont want and those damn annoying drones just put me off it completely. [Edited on 05.02.2012 12:26 PM PDT]

I hear you, man. This game deserves more praise than it gets.

It is my 2nd favourite Halo. Great, new experience with better, more realistic characters that acually have a personality. Firefight was fun too.

I like how it was actually worth the money. CEA was treated like a side project. ODST however was treated like a full game. Side story doesn't necessarily mean side project. Anyways, ODST, the game with the least amount of glitches. It felt very polished. The only reasonable complaint is no skull hunting.

Halo ODST is just core-Halo gameplay with a refreshing, abtract break from the expected mainstream Halo. It stays within the Universe in a way that I couldn't have imagined. Here's my review of the game.

Everything. Best campaign in series. Halo 1 is close second, but for first time playthrough my best experience was ODST.
