So I got a good deal on Halo 2 Vista, and my PC has more than enough of the specs to run the game. I started out getting like 5-15 Frames Per Seconds both Online and in Campaign. Did some research, and read that if I limited my FPS to 30, the game would run smoother. It helped a little bit, maybe by 5 frames only
.
I then found a post about an application called H2V XLiveLess. It takes away the Windows Live feature, and once I used it, the game ran in silky smooth 30 FPS with no problems. I believe that the Windows Live Client on the top causes the game to lag immensely.
Now my question to you: Is there any way to take away the small client on top, while still being able to play online? Any insight on this subject would be much appreciated, as I would love to get my Campaign Achievements :)
I may as well post specs, because people end up asking anyways (:

Actually Kantanamo made a fix that disabled h2v from drawing the gfwl every frame, but I can't find it anymore since his FTP went down. Best way to get it would be to ask him on the MonstrMoose or other forums.

I'm not familiar with ATI, so i'll leave that to someone else, but for NVIDIA cards, i recommend either a GTX 260, GTX 460 (£100 or so and includes dx11) or a GTX 560Ti (30% faster than a 460, Dx11 and recently reduced due to the 600 series being released, around £150-170). Of course, these are just my suggestions and If you prefer ATI hopefully someone can point you in the right direction there. Hope this helps -
I thought that the CPU was fine but I didn't think about my GPU. I don't know too much about GPU's, so if you could point me to some suggestins like brands/models, I'd greatly appreciate it :)

It only barely meets minimum requirements.
His CPU is an older Core 2 Quad, Halo 2 Vista needs a 2.00ghz single core for minimum but I think due to bad optimization a Dual Core/Core 2 Duo is recommended. His CPU is more than enough which leads me to believe it is a GPU issue. If need be, he can overclock the Q6600 as they're very good overclockers, he could easily get that to 3.00ghz+ if he wanted to but as I said, I think it's more GPU related which OP, if you replace with a more up to date one (doesn't have to be THE most High end expensive thing of all time xD), should improve performance. -

I use a controller so I'm fine at 30 FPS :D And could an old GPU contribute to GFWL slowing everything down?

Would it not be wise to replace your GPU? That card is aging...but of course, don't do it for the sake of one game. But nice find about GFWL being a system hog. -
Posted by: Jason the Smurf All Halo games are 30 that I know of lol.
All Halos on the Xbox run at a max of 30 FPS. Halo: Combat Evolved PC and Halo 2 Vista can run at any FPS your PC can handle like any PC game should. Like I said, I can't handle 30 FPS with keyboard/mouse but I can with a controller. :P

Thanks for the application mention op. I've been looking for a way to get rid of that annoying thing. Now I'll never have to go through all that hassle just to play a campaign save.

All Halo games are 30 that I know of lol. Well, anything over 20FPS feels good after playing in 5-15. I read threads about people being able to play online with 30FPS, I was wondering how that is possible, because I sorta proved GFWL is making the Campaign lag.. Oh well, I'm ready to have tons of fun in "close to smooth" 30FPS campaign, I wish I could get 30FPS multi too :( [Edited on 03.25.2012 9:30 AM PDT]

Sadly enough there is no way to take away GFWL and play online with the game.
silky smooth 30 FPS
I can't stand anything below 50 while using a keyboard/mouse. 30 feels in no way silky smooth to me. \o/
