Halo Reach: Picture Examination *LINK PROVIDED*
I was looking at the Halo Reach picture and I pointed out my thoughts about it here:

That isn't a tail, and one of the "new guns" is clearly a knife. Zoom in on the picture and you will see. When you zoom in you'll also see that the "tail" is a belt of ammunition, and that the weapon it connects to is a light machine gun.
