Can a regular doctor prescribe Adderall?

Like many people I'm pretty sure I have ADHD. Can a regular doctor prescribe Adderall or other medicines of that type? I don't have the money to see a specialist, so I was wondering if a regular doctor will prescribe it. Only US citizens answer this please. The laws on this may be different in other countries.

 •
Posted by: roman arrow12
Posted by: Da Econo Troll ADD/ADHD doesn't exist for 99% of people. Most people who have taken it will tell you: 1. It didn't help 2. It made them feel terrible 3. They stopped taking it and "grew" out of their disease
The NIH estimates that between 3 and 5 percent of children have ADD/ADHD. For adults, it's around 4.7. Meta-analysis (which I hate) shows that about 70% of those diagnosed and take the prescribed medicine improve in the short term. There are no individual placebo-controlled clinical studies that I can find. Basically, ADD/ADHD is not only easily diagnostic (especially with new research showing you may be able to find indicators on an MRI), but there are various of ways to treat it, both medicinally and psychologically. Wouldn't it be best for a doctor to make the decision?
I'm sure the medicine helps some. It is just that in a lot of these threads, you'll see plenty of people who took it and it just made them jittery or any other number of side effects. Some stopped taking it and reported it going away. I just find it hard to fathom growing out of a brain disorder.
