Halo 2: The game it should have been (beta).
So I was bored one day, looking up stuff about Halo 2 and the e3 trailer, and suddenly I found a lot of stuff about halo 2 before it came out:

Check it out: MLG dudes playing a Halo 2 Beta. Notice the Halo 1 HUD, proof the game was based off the Halo 1 engine. This isn't unusual in game development, did you know that Black Ops is really based off ID tech 3?

EDIT: Turns out, it was a pressed disc given to reviewers, and most ms employees. It worked on normal unmodded xboxes, and was the beta in the other videos below. Of course, there were other betas on Partnernet, but the most common beta (and the one floating around) is the Private beta.

It was Bungie's fault for having to rush the game. They F'd up royally (like they tend to do a lot these days) and it cost them valuable time. They had three full years to get it done; you can't blame MS for not wanting to wait any longer. Plus the fans were screaming for the game too. The larger and more commercial Bungie gets, the worse they become. It started with H2 (still a great game) and has culminated with Reach (total garbage).

i like reach. Sure, some of the campaign is bland, but i give forge and matchmaking 5 thumbs up. as for halo two, it had good cutscenes and a good storyline, but the gameplay and cliffhanger made it a bit worse. Reach MP is good, but I like 3's better. Mainly because of custom games. Reach doesn't have as many, but give it time. The main problem I had with reach was the controls. As for h2, well, it's come and it's gone. No one cares anymore, and no one will in the future. [Edited on 02.07.2011 12:39 PM PST]

I wish you could've re-titled this thread "What Halo 2's multi-player should've been". Then again, Halo 3 was what Halo 2 should've been... for the most part. I know a lot of blind, Halo fanatics are going to send Hate PMs to me, but I'm not harping TOO much on Halo 2 here. Halo 2 is in fact a good game, but it's not the "ultimate competitive" Halo game fanatics claim it to be. It had the worst weapon balance, worst hit-boxes, and worst melee system out of all the Halo games. It did contain the best maps on the other hand. But hey, what do I know? I mean, I played a lot of PC multi-player first-person shooters before I tried any Halo game. I can't possibly comprehand the "greatness" that was Halo 2, can I? I'm going to be flamed by a Halo 2 fanboy in 3... 2... 1...

I mean, I don't mind if someone personally find Halo to be their favorite franchise. But claiming it as the "da best game ever!" is just ignorant. I will say that the fanatical following towards Halo isn't as bad as the blind following fanaticism towards Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid 4, and dare I say... Half-Life 2. Look, I like Halo 2... A LOT. I spent countless hours on the multi-player and I enjoyed the campaign (Even though I find the campaign to be the second weakest in the franchise). But I'm not going to be a blind Halo fanboy by telling everyone the multi-player and campaign was perfect. Halo 3 received a lot of undeserved flak when it was released. I'm not just refering to the Halo haters (Whom are far more annoying and cloying than Halo fanboys), but from the millions who blindly believe Halo 2 was a gift from God and COD4 was perfect (COD4 is awesome by the way... too bad the COD series went into decline after that). Halo 3's maps weren't as good as Halo 2's, but it certainly had better weapon balance, melee system, and reasonably sized hit-boxes. While the story wasn't as indepth or compelling as Halo 2's (Or CE for that matter), the campaign had better gameplay than Halo 2 and the ending was at least satisfying, where as Halo 2 didn't have an ending to begin with. Unreal Tournament 2004 was released on the same year as Halo 2 did, and it had superior multi-player. This is how I look at the Halo series from the multi-player perspective: Halo 3 > Halo: CE > Halo 2 > Halo: Reach From the campaign perspective" Halo: CE > ODST (I found it very underappreciated) > Halo 3 > Halo 2 > Halo: Reach
