What was your favorite and least favorite moment in gaming?

For my favorite, probably the final part of GoW Ragnarok, when the music swells as Kratos blows the Gjallarhorn, and leads his army to Asgard. My least favorite was when, during my first playthrough of Skyrim, I was informed I had to kill Paarthurnax.

  • In Marathon when a Bob stopped in front of me and said, "I love you, man!" and walked on by. In Dues Ex when I was in a lab looking at bodies being created in vertical test tubes. I came to an empty one and looked down. The label had my name on it! Creeped me out - in a good way. Hated 343 taking over Halo. Really hate the remake of Duke Nukem. The original was fun and camp and now it's misogynistic garbage. Same with Bullet Storm; made it a swear fest.

Either playing dark souls one for the first time for my favorite or playing the tech demo for the ps5, Least favorite playing tears of the kingdom, it’s a good game but not nearly what I expected,

  • Im old, so my answer will seem dated. When i beat Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, i almost lost my mind. Not that the ending was amazing or anything about the story, just the fact that i FINALLY beat an RPG game. To this day, its the only RPG i ever beat.

    • The very first view of Rapture in the original Bioshock remains an all-time favorite moment for me. A shocking/unfavorite moment came during my first playthrough of Mass Effect 3 when the Geth fleet wiped out the Quarians and Tali offed herself.

How do you narrow it down? I have a few favorites… -the first time I experienced The Landing playing during the opening sequence of the Seed exam in FFVIII. To this day it’s one of my favorite musical scores and cinematic sequences. Nothing in VII comes close. Actually, trying to think of a second place… Nothing in any other FF does. -literally every minute of the first Life is Strange. But specifically the chapter ending sequences for chapters 1-3. The whole game makes up my favorite emotional beat down in story telling bar none. -fighting the dragon in Dragon’s Dogma. Both in the opening and the end. It’s such a colossal affair that is absolutely worthy of the build up the game gives it… unlike Skyrim where this colossal fight against the world eater just wound up being basically the same as every dragon fight before it. A few least favorites… which I wonder how you define. Is this a poor gaming experience or an unpleasant experience (that was supposed to feel unpleasant) Poor gaming experience -I know Aifos will disagree because we’ve discussed this before, but the pull the star destroyer down sequence in Force Unleashed. This is, in my opinion, hands down the scene with the most wasted potential of any game I’ve played. I wanted to love it so much and I hated it with the whole of my being. Thinking about it now makes me angry. -Brink. I wanted to like this game. The story explores some decent ideas about morality, anarchy, and political decay. It asks serious questions about when it’s okay to lie to your people and what sacrifices a society must make in the face of extinction. But you’d never know that. Because every single aspect of playing this game was the gaming equivalent of a root canal. This is one of the only games I have thrown in the trash. Unpleasant Gaming experience (that was kind of the point) -The whole of Last of Us 2, but specially
Leaving the Farm. I basically marathoned this game and I remember getting to this part and wanting so desperately for the game to end here. When Ellie chose to leave the farm I was so angry with her for that decision, and so angry with the game for continuing on. It wasn’t until my second playthrough that I realized why the game did was it did. We were being put forcibly into Ellie’s shoes. She wanted to stay. She wanted the story to end there. But it couldn’t because she was broken and she didn’t know how to fix herself. Telling herself it was to kill Abby was a lie. She had already failed to do that. Abby was just a good excuse to die.
• Favorite: either exploring Tristram in Diablo or the RPD in Resident Evil 2 for the first time. Nostalgic overload for me hearing either theme! Least favorite: nowadays it’s the inclusion of “battle passes and live service” elements in full retail releases like Diablo 4. I know I don’t have to spend any money on that stuff but I prefer it in a free to play game over any $70 dollar release.

One of my top gaming experiences I’d say would be in my first Soulsborne game, Dark Souls 3. Getting home after school, making my way to the Kiln of the First Flame, and fighting the Soul of Cinder (about 4 times). I get my ending, became Lord of Hollows, screen fades to black. Pretty good game. Introduced me into the genre that got me out of Destiny 2 after all. Feeling good. Proud of myself for making it this far. And then the credits played. Until that moment, I would always skip/fast forward a game’s credits when I could (darn you Titanfall 2 credits!) But I sat there. I sat for all 6:46 beautiful minutes to “Epilogue” by Yuka Kitamura. Literally cannot type out the awe I experienced (I’ve tried for the past 10 minutes). But it hits hard after going through the game. The YouTube comments should be proof enough. As an introduction to FromSoft, this was the best I could ask for. Good sleeping music too, goodness me.
I should’ve done the DLCs first cause that makes the credits play an extended version and by an actual orchestra apparently. But that’s alright. no regrets.
Then there’s Bloodborne which I love atheistically and musically. An absolute must buy for PS owners. Also Helldivers 2 with the boys. It’s been a good few years for gamers. —— Worst experiences.
My last match of Crucible which was a month or so after Beyond Light released. I get frozen a few times, then called it quits. I hate stun lock. Actual last straw for me aside from the sunsetting. 2 years sober, not looking back cause the drip isn’t that hot anyways. (compared to Warframe) There’s also the occasional R6S matchup with actual 14 year old squeakers. Maybe I’ll go back to R6 after the recruit rework idk. Or when my friends do, which may be never.
• Favorite might be the Mithrix fight in Risk of Rain 2
Seriously, in the 4th phase when he steals all your items, I was shitting bricks the first time I got there. It's a total subversion of the game's premise, to get strong by obtaining items, because when Mithrix steals them and starts using them, it suddenly becomes harder based off of how good your build was. It's just good game design too; it's a concise segment and an excellent subversion to cap off the game.
Least favorite could be like the Podracer mission in The Complete Saga. Like, who playtested this???

          • Favourite might be too difficult to narrow down, so I’ll go with one I can remember clearly. Playing guilty gear strive and I’m still quite new (2 months and it was my first fighting game) I’m playing with a friend who has years more experience than me. They’re playing a character who is really good and they are good at them. I lose. I ask if we can try again because of how badly I lost. We keep going. For 2 hours. Finally, after steadily improving for 2 hours, I manage to beat them. Felt great. The least favourite? I have 3 potential candidates. The first was the time I died in devil may cry 3 without having saved for 4 hours. Doesn’t wipe your save if you die, but I spammed through the options to get to the main menu and change my settings, which is where I lost my save and 4 hours of effort. I was pissed. The second one isn’t really gaming per se, rather just computer related. I was drawing something with no other programs open and I hadn’t saved since shortly after creating the document. Then my pc blue screened. The third is just sad. My terraria characters and world got lost when I changed the storage device windows was running on. One drive overwrote the steam cloud save and like that I lost 70 hours of my time.

            • Most: - Fighting Gael on my first DS3 run. No armor, just FUGS and my grass crescent shield. His first phase I remember clearly because I had to not get hit at all to stand a chance against his second and third phase. The music slaps too. - killing Orphan of Kos and the demon in pain and demon from below. They’re probably the hardest bosses I’ve ever fought in any game. - Metroid Prime (first phase); absolutely challenges your movement and cannon swapping skills.

Most: Playing the opening mission of Halo 3 for the first time. Least: Playing Puzzle Quest 3 for the first time. Arguably a worse downfall of a game series than Saints Row (not worse than Halo, but my crushing disappointment was greater since halo had been bad for a while, and Puzzle Quest 2 is as much of a favourite game to me as Halo 3)

            • I am not sure if this is my favorite or not, but this is the first thing that comes to mind. The end of Chapter 5 and the beginning of Chapter 6 of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Chapter 5 started as one of the more boring chapters. You basically allow yourself to get captured by the enemy so you can talk to someone who they have captive in their prison. And then you end up just doing several prison labor side quests. Very boring. Without spoiling anything, it soon turns into one of the best moments in any video game I have played. After a really cool boss fight, events take a turn for the worse. And what follows is, no joke, a cutscene that is *over an hour long*. (Technically it isn’t one cutscene that is that long, but a couple cutscenes with *super* tiny gameplay segments in between. And when I say tiny, I mean they last for about sixty seconds, and they really only exist to give you a chance to save.) This cutscene is seriously one of the most emotional moments in any story I have experienced. Over the course of the cutscene, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 continues to break you down over and over again, till all you feel is hopelessness. And at the end of chapter 5, when you feel you have reached your lowest, the opening of Chapter 6 breaks you even further. If you haven’t played Xenoblade Chronicles 3, go buy it now. I still like Xenoblade Chronicles 1 more, but I firmly believe that Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s highest points are some of the greatest moments in all of gaming.

Favorite might be GRAW 2 lobbies or Halo 3 customs. Or just playing any games with the gang when I was in middle school. Least favorite was playing Halo 4 for the first time and realizing, “wow, this is kinda -blam!-”.

              • Story wise: Favorite: spoilers for Neo: The World Ends With You
The final cutscene of Week 2, Day 7. There are so many moments in this cutscene that on their own would be really highly ranked as my favorite story moment in gaming, but altogether they definitely take the top. This is in no small part thanks to Shoka's voice actor. This scene was very, very, very emotional for Shoka, and the voice actor just pulled it off splendidly.
Least favorite: Probably one of the many stupid resurrections in Kingdom Hearts III. The rest of the franchise is peak storytelling, but 3 just kinda ruined everything, and one of its many crimes is how it resurrected literally every character who died throughout the entire series. Gameplay wise: Favorite: Lingering Will, Kingdom Hearts II. This is the most well designed boss in any game ever. Period. No game has ever made me feel like I've truly mastered its mechanics like this boss has--it's extremely challenging, one of the hardest bosses I've ever faced, but I have never once died to this boss without feeling like it was my fault. Nothing feels cheap or unfair, but he does not hold back, even a little bit. Least favorite: Fallout 4. Just, the whole thing. I hate it.
