Trace rifles are fun to use but they run out of ammo really quickly that makes it a problem in pve and pvp. In pvp, trace rifles are easy to peak shot because of their limited ammo. Also, since Checkmate is starting to become more normalized, it is harder to justify using a trace rifle when 1) it's takes more time to get special ammo, 2) when you do get ammo you're getting outgunned by primaries and 3) other specials are more effective with OHK potential. In pve, they are also outclassed by primary weapons especially in endgame content and also run out of ammo quickly. They are only usable in pve when using double special so that you can exploit the game's ammo generation. All in all, trace rifles haven't been touched in years yet all the other special weapons have been buffed or reworked. It would be nice to actually see trace rifles get some love that they deserve.

You’re not wrong, outside of Cenotaph Mask, Trace Rifles are extremely niche. More useful in PvP than PvE imo, mostly because of what other specials have for the situations where you would use them outside of add clear (which is what Trace Rifles keep focusing on). Outside of utility Trace Rifles (Div/Navigator/Ager’s Scepter), they’re Primary Weapons dressed as Special Weapons.

Bad idea Actually think
-
Primary ammo weapons have infinite ammo. With Cenotaph warlock exotic, I would be able to keep divinity up indefinitely, basically breaking the game. This will never happen.

No thanks… They’d have to nuke their damage. Right now in PvP they have a bit higher dps than SMGs (in PvP, they’re right about smg TTK) but have much longer ranges. To balance they’d have to drop either their range substantially (at that point they’re just SMGs) or their damage (at that point they’re just Autos). I’d say give them a little more ammo in PvP. In PvE, give them a similar buff to handcannons this past season and buff their reserve ammo again to about 750 at max.
-
Then they’d just nerf the damage of traces, no point
-
Nice idea, but they would get damaged nerfed to the ground. TBH, The only thing that keeps them "balanced" is the ammo economy around them.
-
Nah.. not a good idea. They'd get nerfed into the ground. Leave them alone.
-
That's not a bad idea. People might start treating them with the same amount of respect that they treat autos, but that's no big deal. They do seem to run out of ammo in pvp so more people would likely be using them if they had primary ammo.
-
I'd prefer they just buff the hell out of them to make them feel like OP insta-melting autos, but given how long it takes to implement the pitiful buffs we receive, and the fact that Bungo for some reason expects everything in the sandbox to be perfectly balanced and on the same level, I really don't think either change will happen.

If they'd just be better smgs they need to stay special ammo
