Rift is supposed to be one of the casual modes, and dont get me wrong, its a fun gimmick mode, however its introduction into the comp playlist just defeats the entire point of comp. It brings the worst out of anyone getting camped in your spawn while the other team wastes time with the spark, or playing for the game mode and not the whole point of comp; being better than the other team. Survival was perfect, showdown is tolerable at best but rift?? there are just better modes, like just plain old skirmish, could even do the capture the point like trials, anything but rift.

I have no idea why it's in competitive. The maps aren't even good for it with the weird respawns.
-
Yeah, was a bad decision.
-
Rift and showdown both are garbage imo
-
Imagine someone saying to you, in person right now, "Rift in Destiny is a competive game type". You'd choke laughing.

The put rift in comp? Dear lord you could put a physical copy of the game in their hands and they'd still be out of touch with it

Edited by michael: 12/16/2022 7:47:32 AMI have a few gripes with the way rift plays but they are really all anecdotal scenarios rather than things I can put a label on, so I will say the one thing that is a standout issue with rift is thundercrash titans. It sucks because I don't know how to fix this. Thundercrash is not an inherently broken super and asking for a nerf to it just because of this would be nonsense. It's obviously good but it has never changed and has never been a problem. The way rift plays in 3v3 simply makes it by FAR and away the strongest super for the mode and in a lot of cases having multiple thundercrashes on your team can be the single win condition. When making a push to the enemy's rift, thundercrash closes space far faster than any other super, is basically impossible to shut down, and can kill multiple people throughout its flight path. A super is obviously always going to be an advantage when on the offensive in rift but thundercrash is just so fast, and if used correctly it is a guaranteed free point for your team every time your team has one available. It can also be used defensively, allowing you to catch up to an enemy spark runner faster than they can move. The super is just, by nature, insanely broken in rift specifically and I honestly think it ruins the mode. Rift against no thundercrashes, or against one is pretty solid. But against two or three, you can usually assume your team is going to have to score at least two points just to make it a tie game just based on the supers the other team is going to eventually have. This is less concerning because it is available to all titans but shoulder charge is also an insanely strong movement ability for a spark runner to have.

Rift as a concept is fine IMO, not sure what reasons you have for it being a casual mode. The problem with rift for me is that it relies heavily on Bungie getting the spawns right, which I don't think they have.
-
Neither do bad players but they let you in there. Optic Scump said it best "Bad players hate OBJ modes"
-
It is. You hate it because you need to think to win, not just mindlessly shoot things)))

Why is Rift supposed to be a casual mode? It requires teamwork and strategy. It works well in a competitive playlist, in my opinion. -
I’ll come back to pvp when Elims is back. For now it’s a total mess in competitive
-
There’s nothing left but noobs In this game now. Rift is poop, Survival is poop, Bring Elims back
-
Comp should be survival, countdown, elimination and showdown (without zone tiebreaker).
-
I don’t get their mentality? They put rift into Iron Banner and it was nearly universally hated so they had to take it out. They said that when it was in the weekly rotation it wasn’t very popular again. So why then, during the first week of a new season do they make 4 out of 5 (2 certain and 2 possible) crucible playlists blaming rift!? Bungie if you read this rift is -blam!-! Put Elimination in or bring back Skirmish! Just get rid of rift!
-
Yeah rift needs to go. You wouldn’t like it if you have teammates that just quit cuz it’s rift and they dont want to play it which makes it unfair for you.
-
Don't worry, Bungie is listening. They'll do something about it in a year or two, when they feel like it.

They’re a pack of -blam!-

It's actually not supposed to be a casual mode, Clash where there is no objectives is supposed to be casual, but a game where there is a clear objective, and teams have to control that objective or lose sounds pretty competitive to me -
Good luck begging forever for them to remove it :)
-
You know, I think that if everybody complaining about Rift actually took the time to learn the game mode and play the objective, maybe the experience wouldn't be so bad.
-
The fact that rift exists still is kinda surprising with this kind of community. 🤣
-
-
I don't think it belongs in freelance comp. It's fine in standard comp.
-
Should've been Survival, Elim, and Countdown.
