Despite the problems F2P brings with it, I am happy that D2 is F2P with the base game.

And the reason for that is mainly financial origin. See, since Destiny 2 went F2P with the base game, I don't need to pay Xbox Live Gold anymore on my Xbox Series S to be able to play activities like Crucible and Strikes, etc. Before the change, you needed Xbox Live Gold on Xbox to be able to play Strikes and Crucible. Financially speaking I paid before the 6,99€ subscription model for Xbox Live Gold. Per Year that was 83,99€ (just to be able to play D2 at full access without DLCs). That's a good amount of money (but not that much compared to other stuff). 83,99€ I can now safe per year to spend on other stuff, like the Eververse or other things (both digital and IRL). For PC players it is not much of a difference because Steam doesn't charge money for playing online. How it is for PSN I don't know but I assume similar to Xbox. As said above, despite the problems F2P brings with it (New Light experience, cheaters in PvP, etc.), there is at least some very valuable profit for players on console from Pay2Play to F2P change.

  • As someone who has always paid for content and will always pay for content (unless the game actually goes to -blam!-), I’m definitely alright with the base game being free to play. Pretty good deal for people who don’t want to shill out $100+ on content before they do much. Since that probably accounts for literally every new player, it’s probably the best way to bring in new players. Of course it does lead to some FtP players complaining that they’re at an unfair disadvantage because they don’t have all the same gear. However since the content is free, FtP players are owed nothing and I encourage those who complain to cope and seethe and maybe mald. Bungie could maybe add/edit some of the wording to be clear that yes, of course the people who pay money in this game will have more things at their disposal and thus some level of an advantage; but if you’re going to complain that you have less to work with than somebody else, knowing that they spent real life money to play and you’re riding off the free version, you have bigger issues. Turn the game off if money is an issue, or work with the free options you are given. Simply cope.
