The toxicity of lfg VoG teams

It’s bad enough the changes they made with the oracles but the toxicity and elitism of people in these lfg groups is unbelievable. My clan was short 2 guys so we ended up using lfg and found some people to fill the spots. These 2 guys said they had an Atheon checkpoint and ask if we could start there and they’d help us with the beginning parts after so we agreed. Now this was our very first time in the raid learning everything and these guys had already played and made it to Atheon. So we start and their we a few mistakes but after a while we were getting the hang of stuff. All of a sudden these guys say um I don’t think we will get this done the damage isn’t enough. Now these guys were putting out similar to less damage than everyone else and were making mistakes as well. They just continued to be negative and no longer wanted to help anymore. It’s just ridiculous how people just don’t have the patience anymore to figure out where the mistakes lie, correct it and keep pushing. They rather be negative, create tension and anxiety. People want to beat the raid just as badly as these elitist pricks. Thus why raid should’ve stayed the same as it was in D1 and challenge mode should’ve had the changes.

  • I'll let you in on a secret. I used to do Sherpa runs back in the D1 days and early D2 days. I would Sherpa 5 newbies, not 1 or 2 guys, but 5 NEW guys who haven't done the raid or haven't cleared it yet. For FREE!!! No attachments whatsoever, I don't even stream or do youtube. BEST FEELING I've ever had in all my Destiny experiences!!! Best feeling ever! I've done a lot of raids, and I've played with some of the really good raiders of the community. But nothing beats bringing 5 NEW guys that haven't done the raid at all, and then clear it! BEST FEELING EVER!!! I don't play anymore because I don't like what happened to D2 when Activision left. The last time I did a Sherpa to 5 NEW guys was with my clan on Garden of Salvation, complete with Divinity run and a clear, to 5 newbies! I did this a lot for the community back in the day. For FREE, without attachments or any recognition. Because I knew there are a lot of gamers who wanted to do it, but are discouraged because of the toxicity of the community. And I was right! Gamers want to do the raid, they want to learn it, and they want to participate in it, if only somebody would guide them through it, without strings attached. Here's a tip, I don't go in to Sherpa and be the hero. I avoid hero moments when I Sherpa. I'm in accademics. I know how it works. Don't give food to a hungry nation, instead teach and show them how to make food, and they'll never grow hungry. Same with this. Don't Sharpa and carry new guys. Instead, teach them how to do it, give them roles and let them own it. That's how we make the community stronger and better raiders. That's how I do it. That's how I'll always do it. I don't play anymore not because of community, but because direction of the game has gone into milking cow schemes. I went back to playing D1. If you want community to be better, it's your turn to change it or make a change with it. Good luck guardians! Peace!

    • From reading your post, I'm just saying. It wouldn't have made a difference whether you guys knew what you were doing or not. You said it yourself and didn't deny it either that your group wasn't doing enough damage. That alone will cause any group to go their own way, but you are right about one thing. People don't need to be a jerk just to get a point across. There is a respectful way to go about it that there is no need to stress everyone out over something that really isn't that big of a deal and the best solution for that? Make more friends and stay away from the LFG becase it's going to get a hell of a lot worse as time moves on.

      • Yeah man, I feel your pain. I only raid with a certain group of guys, and I never veer away from that group. Don’t let it discourage you. You’ll find a good group of people to raid with eventually

      • There's a thin line with an issue like this because, on one hand, people can be justifiably upset if someone's incapacity to learn from mistakes essentially compromises the run for everyone or wastes more time than people would have wanted. On the other you have people lashing out with the kind of vitriol you'd expect from an overly serious Destiny player that contributes to the community's "most toxic" label.

      • Just post for a “chill run” if someone gets out of line about something tell them quickly to stop they joined a chill run, not hard. Last night I done 2 lfg raids and stoped 2 arguments before they started. Speak up..

D1 LFGs were the same as it is now. It's just now there are more Toxic people. It's happens in every game no matter what. There will always be people who only want top people. I try to avoid those groups and tend to go to ones that are willing to teach. Even tho I know the Mechanics, I join them because those tend to be more chill, and I can learn an extra thing or two. You just gotta find them. There are people that are still chill, it's just LFG rn is really hard because the raid is new(as in to D2, not actually brand new). Once people more do it, it'll get better.

        • Had 2 players boot everyone who joined at the boss at CoS week 1. We did it 2nd or 3rd try (when I joined) and they booted everyone as soon as rhe chest spawned. Basically 2 lfg scrubs wanted a carry and booted everyone as the chest spawned..

I’ve actually had some good experiences in the past two days. I joined a “kwtd” post with only a vague idea of what to do, so volunteered to be on ad clear duty. The next encounter I had absolutely zero idea what to do, and told them, but instead of just kicking me they asked if I wanted to learn, and we beat that encounter as well. I had to go after that encounter, but the guys just wished me a good night and I think we all left pretty happy. Edit: not saying I haven’t experienced toxicity as well, just wanted to put out there that some people are pretty cool in the lfg world.

        • I agree dude people who post KWTD rarely KWTD themselves. I learnt the new things in the raid the hard way dipping into different lfg groups and the hardest thing about the raid was the other players. Constantly getting told to put this class on on, wear these boots, use this gun lol. It can be 2 manned lol. Suppose bungie needs to take some responsibility for making a raid where you must have Anarchy or divinity or whatever else. Some guy asked me where did I get my emblem lol 😂. I just said I got that when Destiny was cool! I used to Sherpa ppl through Vault many moons ago now I’ve little punks thinking they know it all. The world we now live in folks. People can be arseholes. That’s just the way it goes. My advice is to kick them out of group and get people in who don’t have a billy big head.

        • I haven’t raided in D2 I had over 20 real life friends who played A LOT of D1. I never had issues raiding Vanilla D2 was even more popular, but almost every friend got off before the 1st dlc even dropped, and I won’t LFG cuz I’m not familiar with any raid, and know the elite crowd won’t accept that. Now since Xbox added D2 to game pass I saw some friends return, and a handful on new friends trying it, but mostly everyone of them hated pvp. Cuz of course they don’t have good weapons compared to the average player. Destiny has a huge issues from raid, to pvp that really hurts the player count. Man it sucks I have no one to play with anymore lol

          • Have you ever considered some people just don't always have the time? For example, i spent hours and hours learning raids. Although I do sherpa time to time. There's also many other things which revolve around my life. Same for many people. This is why I start a new clan at some point. I'll have a dedicated raid teaching day for 3 hours. First come first serve. Ill probably have another day for helping with higher level nightfall.

          • I make posts that seem “toxic” to snowflakes because i dont want little timmy who doesn’t know shit about raids, to cause my fireteam to spend egregious amounts of time on one encounter. I want people who are good and fast, not -blam!-

            • Honestly, a huge part of it is not having decent lfg tools. We can barely type 1 sentence in the group finder. So people now just type KWTD. When really, if we could put something like, "anyone welcome, but pls bring a mic, and mods for the champs" things would go smoother. Because we have limited text, ppl just skip typing prose and simplify the post to "need 5, kwtd"

I laugh when I hear how great this community is. Maybe to a small few, but Bungie ensured a toxic environment. From publicly airing their political views on Twitter (the place I’d like to get info, not bullshit) to the bounty system where we have to fight each other over kills and what have you. I’m going back to laughing my -blam!-ing ass off now. Thank you. EDIT: Forgot to say much love. -blam!-ing dumbass response.

            • I just hate how people make VoG posts, but they put it under DSC. These are two different Raids and both have their own group to post in guys. It's not that hard.

              • I tried joining VoG in D1 I was always kicked for being 1 under light or not having a specific emblem or weapon they wanted but their friends didn't have. Every lfg I put together wouldn't be patient enough to learn to game with each other. I was gatekept. For this VoG I plan to run 2-3 a week or more. I have an amazing clan and raid teams lined up. The actual encounters aren't hard themselves. I am happy I see D1 vets struggling rn. They're the same people who gatekept me. I can't wait to sherpa people and on a different note get the seal. One thing is for sure, you are at a severe disadvantage in destiny without a clan. Lfg won't cut it for consistency.

People need to realize most D2 players are indeed “filthy casuals” myself included. There are people who are really great at this game and have little patience for those of us always -blam!-ing up, and that is cool. These great players should realize the LFG players are going to be more like me than themselves. These great players should consider using other resources available where players like themselves hang out (besides their mom’s basement I mean) clans and discord servers. Of course they can use the app LFG, but have a realistic expectation and understand for most of us this GAME is used to relieve stress and have fun. TLDR; Be chill app LFG is where casuals live

                  • As a clan leader myself an also being in a Similar position of needing a few people. I never let any random join an take control. As soon as they play the blame game or start to talk down to my crew you’ll be in orbit.

                  • Reading these replies makes me so glad that we ended up with people that were completely cool calm and collected from lfg. We didn't finish because for someone it was 6 am and they just had to go after about the 3rd Atheon try but I must have gotten lucky because I have never completed a raid and it was bad to where I was waiting for the "oracles" the first time and thinking hive witches or something were about to pop out from somewhere.

                  • I agree and the KWTD posts on day one are a joke as well. Its day one of the raid like WHY. So I try and find people who are like minded to complete it with. I look for people who dont get tilted right away at a mistake. Also, dont put the blame on a single person or person's who mess up. Its a game not the end of the world. Just ask if everyone understands the objective and push forward.
