Weapon retirement gives me no incentive to try.

So, after the release of Taken King in D1, random rolls and weapon infusion throughout the rest of the games life is what kept me engaged and involved with the game. I never ran out of material to grind for, mainly because I was always looking for new and creative ways to gear up for whatever new events came down the line from Bungie. D2, was such a departure from the system I loved that I set the game aside with no intention of returning, however the changes made in Forsaken and Shadowkeep were so overwhelmingly positive, I repurchased the game for PC on steam, and am currently undertaking the grind for new and exciting legendary weapons. With the return of weapon retirement that we saw in the transition of D1 year 1 to year 2, being implemented as a permanent feature for the remainder of D2’s life cycle, I have zero incentive to continue playing. This system essentially devalues any work put into acquiring a specific roll through hours of dedication, thus making continued gameplay pointless. Myself and many of my friends love to spend hours playing Destiny, when we have something to show for it. By retiring weapons, you take that away, along with the motivation to continue playing. If this change does get permanently implemented, I do think this will be the last straw for my faith in the franchise, and will most likely hang up the space magic for good this time. I do hope Bungie heavily considers another way to move forward with weapon economy, because taking away hard work from your player base isn’t the way to do it. With all respect, thank you Bungie for the hard work you’ve done so far, I just beg you not to do this.

Can you help me understand something? What is the point of making new weapons if people only want to use the "OLD" weapons because of the time spent to grind them for their god rolls and specific load outs? If bungie came out and said "We have taken feedback on "retiring your current weapons" and have decided we wont be limiting weapons from End game activities and we also wont be releasing anymore weapons down the line because there is no point in doing so if the majority just want to use what they already have." Would that be okay with players? Take FFXIV for example. Whenever you reach a new level there is different gear/weapons you can aquire to boost your stats and if you dont you will be easier to kill and it will be harder to kill enemies as you go into tougher content. This is a true MMO. As it is right now bungie has acknowledged that this is in some sense an MMO(Lite). We have read from the directors cut that it is very taxing on the developers to run countless simulations to make sure your chatter bone wont break the game in new content being released. This time could be allocated to other areas of the game to provide an over all better experience which is why they have decided to give us a time frame for how valuable our weapons will be for endgame. You wont be losing any old weapons. We just wont be able to use them in end game content becasue the light level of weapons will be capped after a year of being in the game. This means strikes, Crucible, Lost Sectors, adventures, Patrols, will still allow you to complete the content using whatever weapons you want. It would only be end game which consists of: New Raids, Trials, Iron Banner, Nightfalls (Harder versions) that would require higher light level to do. Again it all comes back to the loot. If there is no incentive for you to aquire new weapons because you can just use what you already have why should bungie continue making new weapons? This method we have currently destroys what a looter shooter essentially should be.
