Starfinder seems like such a better fit for that.
But then, so do Savage Worlds, Genesys (Except for proprietary system dice! Bad call FFG! 👎), D6 Space, and Traveller.
For near zero mechanics there's Fudge/FATE and for super mechanics there's Star Hero (ugh).

I like Stars Without Number. A lot of the stuff in that could easily just be reflavored as Mass Effect already!

I didn't mention it since it seems so close to D&D and that's what they're using. But I'm all about rounding corners on system stuff if I can. It leaves more time for campaign development.
