What’s an Auto rifle ? An SMG which sacrifice damage for longer range ? A Pulse rifle which sacrifice range for rate of fire ?
It’s in such a niche that it’s hard to buff it without breaking the balance and making another weapon looks obsolete.
What’s a Scout rifle ? A sniper which sacrifice damage for more bullets ? A Pulse rifle which sacrifice rate of fire to get a sniper feeling ?

I think that to buff Auto rifle and Scout rifle you would first need to make Pulse rifle into something else.

In pve, the actual damage of scouts(and autos to a slightly lesser degree) is literally just too low relative to other guns. In pvp, pulses are just so good in so many scenarios that using a scout or autorifle is pointless in almost every situation. Some pulses like bygones have range close to that of some scouts, while having TTK faster than autorifles? And yet they also do lots of flinch, yet have little recoil. Basically, pulses are a hybrid between scouts and autos, only rather than being a jack of all trades, master of none, they're a jack of all trades AND master of all trades. Pulses are an invasive species

Edited by Bubble: 9/5/2019 4:16:39 AMThe point is that if you buff auto rifle, you now have a pulse rifle. And if you buff a scout, you now have a pulse rifle. That's not entirely true, but you get the idea. There's just not enough room for those 3 weapons to feel different while having their own use. Make Pulse rifle into something else entirely and you'll have way more choices to buff auto rifle and scout.

Maybe they don't need to feel so different. Having similar ttk while still being different archetype of weapons is a good thing. I think the current problem is how "different" ie BAD scouts and autos feel right now.

With equal TTK players will go for the weapons which is the most practical and versatile. Unless they really don't like how using it feels but that's goes into personal preference. Scout can be ok since its niche is different enough somehow. But auto rifle just feel squished between SMG and pulse. Make a few step forward and you'd better use an SMG, make a few step backward and you'd better use a pulse.
