Make a new category of swords. Keep "heavy swords" like stryker and black talon in heavy.
Make "lightweight" swords e.g. Quickfang a 2 hit kill in crucible, and give 4 ammo (like 2 classes of grenade launcher).
Allows them to be a serious shotgun counter without being op, and to bring a totally unused weapon type back into circulation.
Swords are dead, this would revive them.
Thoughts?
Edit: and like dude said below, add new melee weapons. Hammers, Maces etc.

I like it, but dont make it a two hit. In that time you would have been killed twice by a Shotgun.

since it would take 2 hits to kill, having more than 2 ammo wouldnt be that bad. shotguns would litteraly demolish swords.

Swords apart from the exotics should all go to special slots and also kill in one shot. They are literally weaker versions of shotguns, shotguns have an advantage over swords 99% of the time with swords only being able to use the camera around corners to ambush players, even trying to ambush players sucks because shotguns fire fast while swords have to go through an animation. I honestly don’t see why shotguns are not heavy and swords are specials. It makes more sense

I said this about a month ago , down voted by shotguners And no quick fang must still one hit !! It gets 2 ammo , shotguns one hit too and have a 10 meters range which swords obviously don't have Making it a 2 hit kill will just make it pointless cuz u will die to shotguns After all I don't really care about crucible anymore, untill there is a serious change in the meta

All swords should be special, except for maybe the exotics. Shotguns should've never left the heavy slot, or required a two shot kill with more range than they have, or have almost no range at all. The way they are now is completely baffling how bungie thinks they are balanced. But, oh, they did nerf proximity grenades, AGAIN. Because, you know, sooooo many people were complaining about that....

Add swords to special!! Yes - start working on other specials that replace shotguns and allow side arms and smg’s some leverage also.

I made a huge post containing this suggestion. Lightweight swords should be put into special ammo slot. I don’t think any damage changes should be made to lightweight though as you still need to get close.. it would completely ruin the use of a lightweight sword as it’s already weaker than both Adaptive and Heavy Frames.

I think they need more ammo spawn and damage, and a knockback effect on the pve enemy(except the bosses), that's all, with that in mind you can make the player risk for the kill.

Yes - add a power field to the weapon so it does more damage. Solar, arc and void power fields make the weapons stronger and wreck shields. If the weapon has no ammo you can still swing without the field and do some damage (same as now) Add heavy swords to heavy slot. Pole axes, maxes and blunt force trauma weapons into that heavy space.
