A new mechanic idea

So, I suggest for power reasons we keep Exotics as 1 only since it's not hard to obtain exotics themselves, but I suggest there be a system where you can merge exotics and create a hybrid, I suggest a system where the more you spend the better the result, so a basic exotic combination would just combine the main abilities and reduce the effectiveness of both, however spending more would lessen the nerf to the abilities and add in the secondary abilities depending on amount spent, and maxing out the resources spent would literally combine them at their fullest potential, note that you could then combine hybrids, but each new combination costs more and more, meaning someone could have a weapon or armor with every other weapon or armor of the same class combined into it, but they would have to spend hundreds if not thousands of hours grinding for it, to make it harder I would say that to combine a weapon it would have to have it's catalyst, so, what do you guys think of this idea?

  • While I'm all for seeing new degrees of customization in the game, I think this may well destroy every element of balance in the game. I get the concept that you'd require someone to put in an insane amount of time into the game in order to really maximize this mechanic, but, unfortunately, that really just accounts to a long time gate. Eventually, players will start achieving that level of build, and then you run into the issue where they now are beyond overpowered compared to everything else in the game in PVE to the point that if they die, it's because they decided to. Say in the theoretical instance where someone combines a titans one-eyed mask and insurmountable skullfort. That alone would be a god-like combination that would decimate just about everything else in PVP or in PVE. That titan would become an almost unkillable god. Now add in synthoceps that's been combined with worm god's caress. Odds are you could use code of the missle and one shot people with a recharging melee ability that heals you and grants an overshield. Add in a heart of inmost light combined with armentarium and you can pound out abilities that are charged up to deal more damage almost constantly. Add in a dunemarchers combined with lion rampent and any group of enemies will die and you have massive mobility. Ultimately, I think the concept is cool, and I think it would be incredibly fun, but it fits a bit better into a single player experience. I'd hazard a guess and say a big part of what Destiny 2 aims at is that of choice. What exotic armor do I want to pick to really make the most of a play style or situation. We can't have everything we migth want. I like that you are thinking of new mechanics and ideas to bring into the system. That's awesome and keep it up. In a different game, this could definitely be applicable and a fantastic thing to incorporate, but given how everything has been built out, as well as the min-max tendency of the playerbase, I think this mechanic would ultimately have to be removed, or exotics trashed. There might be ways to modify the concept, however, and make it work without breaking the system. Say, just for example, you could combine skullfort and mask of the quiet one. The new armor piece does exactly what skullfort does, but for void abilities. Just throwing that out as a possible way you could consider modifying the original concept and maintain some sort of balance.
