Hey all, There was a slight miscommunication on our end. Here's what's going on: There was an issue where Chromatic Fire would proc twice when defeating enemies with headshots. This could lead to some nasty bugs, so it needed to be addressed. Alongside this fix, there was a planned change to increase the damage to keep functionality in line. It looks like the fix for the perk shipped in Update 2.1.0, but the damage increase will go live next week with Update 2.1.1. Apologies for the missed patch note. We'll update what we have live now.

  • LTTP, just got this exotic this week. It's trash tier. Thanks for the nerf. It needs to trigger off any kill (non-precision and precision). Sunshot does this, why can't CF? The explosions should be larger and should not be delayed.

  • Hey dmg, here's an idea for the team that edited this exotic power. Take a warlock wearing chromatic fire and use a forsaken kinetic. Then in the energy slot use the kibou AR3 from the warmind vendor. Use both to kill with precision shots, and then judge which result is preferable. The problem is one is an exotic and one is a legendary that anyone can use. It is so beyond night and day which one is favorable, that it seems they really need to go back to the drawing board on the explosion effects entirely. This is an EXOTIC. :( Basically, the weak effect is simply missing the spectacle that you can get from an auto rifle with dragonfly. Ironically enough, the chromatic fire has the same exact problem that the graviton lance had fixed. Please relate that to the team PS - I just got this one hour ago after grinding 4 months. And I'm testing it out and just kind of saddened. I'm glad to have it but this is definitely not in the realm of where it should be. **To be honest the same thing needs to be done with the alfeasance. The explosions are so tiny that you literally have to kill an enemy and then stick your head in the screen to see where it actually happens. Where is the awesomeness?

It's great to know that. I suggested earlier to reduce the number of explosions from 2 to 1, but didn't know it was a bug. Considering this buff, the explosion should do a little more damage than before (definitely should kill weak mobs and close standing guardians in the Crucible). I hope for a range buff too and for reducing the explosion delay. That would make this exotic perfect. Asking for CF to grant elemental damage to a primary weapon would be too much I suppose)))

  • I for one believe there was nothing wrong with that old damage. Actually gave it a use in PvE AND PvP

  • I sincerely hope the damage total remains the same. There’s nothing like sniping someone in a bunched up group in crucible and getting splash damage kills.

  • Didn't D1 have a similar bug which crashed the game because Firefly was triggering twice? Any vets here would understand why it had to be removed...
Loud explosions can cause your cats and dogs undue stress, please leave your pets inside when lighting fireworks.
Actually... it was more like firefly would trigger over 9000 times in the span of half a second... It was hilarious watching vandals fly in the air for miles on end. Oddly enough... it seemed to only happen on kinetic weapons with firefly. The game couldn't seem to handle kinetic firefly explosions as opposed to energy based ones (that never caused the glitch). Also, fun fact, if you killed anything with the kinetic explosion that would normal disappear (all hive for example, they don't leave behind bodies when killed) the game would leave those bodies on the ground as if they were a different faction. I used to do this in PoE to get some cool screenshots of hive ogre bodies on the ground.

  • This is a lie, you only changed it because it was doing too much damage with weapons that already had the firefly perk. You realize this is a public forum right and it will be used in a court of law against you idiots? You would think you would want to start telling the truth, remember hillary lost bud, shit is changing. Get with it or go to prison.

  • First of all, "court of law" lmao Second, that's not what they're talking about. The double-proc was without Firefly. As in, if you used it with Ace and Firefly, you'd get three procs. This fix is for the double-proc it was already doing, and the damage from the individual explosion will be increased because the exotic wasn't overpowered with the double-explosion (so having only one explosion at the previous damage level would be underpowered). Not too sure why they shipped the bug fix without the accompanying buff to compensate, but hey, Bungie.

  •
You realize this is a public forum right and it will be used in a court of law against you idiots?
*Law and Order "Dun dun" sound effect* But seriously. Calm down, you agreed to an EULA that said Bungie can change the game code as they please. They can swap your guardian's hands for feet if they wanted to spite you.

Hey dmg. OP here. Thanks very much for the update. Really appreciate it, especially considering how busy you guys must be lately with all the new content! That's a shame about the double explosions (because they were extra fun), but understandable if it was leading to some errors. Glad the team identified that a damage increase to keep the exotic perk's power at a similar level was appropriate :) While I have you, through some of my testing it feels as though the single explosion is now slightly more delayed than previously. Don't think the delay is much, maybe 0.5 seconds or so, but it often gives enough time for PvE enemies to move out of the explosion range. It actually look me a while to make sure enemies were getting hit by the explosion to test the damage. This could easily be entirely subjective on my part and maybe I'm just looking for differences. But I could swear there's extra delay in the explosion now which in my testing, slightly reduced the overall effectiveness of the perk. So I'm not sure if this was a by-product of the fixes and whether this could be investigated also. Cheers and thanks again.

  • Did the people working on this game actually graduate from video game coding kindergarten? Every time they do something it seems like it’s either half jacked up or breaks something unrelated. Is there any QA/QC before patches are released into the wild? It appears the answer is no. While you’re at it can you tell us why the raid ogre now kicks the team when it’s at 50% health? It didn’t do that last week.

  • Yep, because coding a million and a half different things is simple kindergarten task...why do you think they have hundreds of employees?because it's easy to catch every single little thing that can be caused by a change?

  • If it happened once in a while it would be different. It happens all the time. It’s their job. They don’t do their job well. Maybe they should change some of the hundreds of subpar coders with a few that know what they’re doing.

If you're not part of the solution then you can certainly participate in prolonging the problem. Seriously, this has been going on since the beginning. Every time they make an "update", something inevitably goes wrong with something else. As far as QC/QA? What do you think their player base is for? Not only is is free labor for them, they actually have people pay to be a part of it (myself included). I finally got the chest piece and it was fun to play with. Haven't touched it since the update so I'm hoping it's not completely useless at this point. It was my fav warlock chestpiece by far.

  • I agree with what you're saying but it's not just Bungie that is doing this it's that 'every' game company is doing this and it's the gamers fault for not just wanting to be part of betas but for paying for them and paying for unfinished games just so they can play it early. On this 'we' the gamers set this trend.

Thanks for replying dmg. It's a shame to hear that, as the x2 or x3 explosions with ace of spades were a lot of fun :-) But if it was unintentional and causing issues then fair enough it needed to be fixed. Glad to hear there is a damage buff coming for the explosion in the next update. It definitely needs to be more powerful than a standard dragonfly explosion to make it feel, well...exotic! Maybe also slightly visually different, and visually bigger maybe, to make it a bit more fun to use & watch...just some ideas. Also, maybe it would be cool to re-introduce firefly into the general kinetic weapon rolls, then we could use weapons other than ace of spades to get those oh-so satisfying double explosions. I'm assuming here that at least ace of spades will still stack with chromatic and give us 2 explosions...please tell us it will...right? Ace was one of the best reasons to use chromatic! Edit - sorry what I meant was, i know ace still currently stacks with chromatic post 2.1.0 and gives 2 explosions so I'm assuming that will still be the case after update 2.1.1 I'm sure it will so ignore that last paragraph. (Well, don't ignore the bit about firefly on some other kinetics, that's still a great idea...hint hint ;-) Thanks for you time, much appreciated.
