Vision 47 - a prediction of the hive

Vision 47 is a D1 grimoire card that tells us of one of Osiris’s prophecies. I haven’t seen any talk of this anywhere so I’m going to go through it and give my thoughts on how it speaks of the hive.
The first comes in a shadow. A window becomes a door. An ebb becomes a gulf. The second comes in bones. Tithes offering feasts, carrying laws. A path torn, minds shattered. The third does not come alone. It cannot. Our truths woven into their being, desires beyond our own. The first needs the second to fail, the third needs the first to succeed. The second will never cease, yet the first always prevails. The third is born of all outcomes. Unless, all ends flow from the same pit.
Let’s break this down into segments.
The first comes in a shadow. A window becomes a door. An ebb becomes a gulf.
The shadow speaks of Oryx, his shades and the taken. The window could refer to many things; Mara looking through the window of her ketch about to step into Oryx’s throne, Toland having watched us defeat Crota, using the dreadnaught to pass back into the material world. The ebb of darkness becomes a gulf as Oryx’s will flows into the system and carves out chunks of it for himself.
The second comes in bones. Tithes offering feasts, carrying laws. A path torn, minds shattered.
Here we see Savathun. Like the bones of Ahamkara she comes in whispers. She seeks to “feast” on the tithing of those she sends to the distributary and to change the laws that govern her own existence. She has torn Maras path to godhood from her and left her throne/mind world shattered.
The third does not come alone. It cannot.
Xivu Arath is the aspect of war, and war cannot come alone because there must always be two sides to conflict.
Our truths woven into their being, desires beyond our own.
This I’m still uncertain on. Woven truths perhaps indicative of Savathuns plot to power herself through our incorrect assumptions?
The first needs the second to fail, the third needs the first to succeed.
Oryx’s plan was to become synonymous with death. Savathun’s plan is to become synonymous with deceit. Xivu’s plan, we suspect, may be to become synonymous with war. Oryx needs Savathun to fail, yet Xivu needs Oryx to succeed...
The second will never cease, yet the first always prevails. The third is born of all outcomes.
Savathun will never cease to be cunning but Oryx always defeats her. A sign that Oryx, though dead, will have a part to play in the defeat of his sister, possibly through Quria. Xivu is born of all outcomes as war is inevitable.
Unless, all ends flow from the same pit.
This suggests that though the hive gods may strive for their separate goals, it is possible they are all puppets for a greater power. Whether this be the worm gods or perhaps the darkness itself we cannot know, merely something to keep in mind. Bearing in mind that Bungie made this back in D1, it’s possible they had nothing of D2 mapped out and this is all gibberish. However on the chance that it isn’t, this is my interpretation, would be curious to hear yours.

  • Here's another thought for "...the first always prevails...", To me what this says is death always prevails, I say this because oryx strived to become death.

  • <I had a thought that Oryx would always get the last laugh. Quria, even if it doesn't fight Savathûn under Oryx's will, still has some of its will left thanks to Oryx. It's perfect and honestly thanks for bringing another possible interpretation of that vision.>

    • That's really interesting. The power of the lore. the mind shattered part. If the whole section is tied to savathun's arrival. The mind shattered could be Zavala. I am convinced Savathun has power over him, he has been acting weird since Titan, more so than just shock or even fear. He seems to be actually acting against the guardians more than helping. Breaking Zavala would shattered his mind and the vanguard completely as well as all understood means of the hive power can effect guardians.

      • Wow, that's a coincidence. I made a post a day or two ago about Vision 81. Haha, weird. Anyways, good job on the analysis! It's nice to have a fresh interpretation. To preface this, the theory I'm about to present is pretty old. If I remember right, Myelin even made a video about it during TTK. So, this primarily uses evidence from D1. My personal interpretation of this vision, one shared by the community for awhile, is that this card is describing the Hive, the Vex, and Guardians. Let me explain: Firstly, those subjects make perfect sense as this is presumably written by Osiris, who delved into both Hive and Vex lore. He's also a Guardian, so he fits that subject by default. The theory goes that the first is humanity/Guardians, the second is the Hive, and the third are the Vex. The first being Guardians is thought of for multiple reasons. "The first comes in a shadow" could be referring to the Collapse. Guardians did technically come in a shadow, as we were born from the ashes of the Darkness' arrival. "A window becomes a door" and "An ebb becomes a gulf" were never really explained using this theory. Most people I remember attributed this to humanity's destiny to venture into the stars. By weathering the Collapse and surviving our enemies, we will eventually colonize our universe as the Traveler wanted. Our wanting gazes toward the stars, the window and the ebb, would become a door and a gulf once we survived the Darkness and inherited the universe. The second is obviously related to the Hive. I don't think anyone could doubt that. For the longest time, we assumed "bones" simply referred to the Hive's undeadly nature. The "Tithes offering feasts" is self explanatory and the "laws" are the Sword Logic. "A path torn, minds shattered" I thought refers to Oryx's death. But with new Forsaken info, it would make more sense for it to be referring to both Oryx and Mara's Throne Worlds, as "minds" is plural. And as we know, Throne Worlds are extensions of their creators' minds. I originally believed the second is the Hive in general, but since the Vision is speaking of their arrival, most of it has to do with Oryx. But now that you bring up the idea that "bones" could be referring to the Ahamkara, I wonder if this is about Savathun. Hmm. I'll stick to my Oryx idea for now, but yours does make sense. The third being the Vex is speculation, but it does fit and back in the day, it helped support a popular theory. The third not coming alone coincides with the idea that it needs the help of the first. It needing the first to succeed, using this theory, means the Vex need the Guardians to defeat the Hive. This makes sense. Finally, "Our truths woven into their being, desires beyond our own" could be hints toward the theory that the Vex are created by humans. It does make sense as to why we're part of The Pattern; why we haven't been killed off by the Vex yet. The desires beyond our own could be talking about how the Vex went rogue and have their own desires now. Also, them not coming alone ties into the idea that humanity is their progenitor. The last lines sum this whole thing up. The first needs the second to fail, meaning Guardians need the Hive dead. The third needs the first to succeed, meaning the Vex need us to kill the Hive. The second will never cease, meaning the Hive will always continue to exist in some form, yet the first always prevails, meaning us Guardians will always ultimately win. (As is the nature of videogames. We will always beat the dlc and win.) The third is born regardless, as the Vex have time -blam!-ery. And finally, "unless all ends flow from the same pit." This is a quote from Osiris. I believe this to mean that, no matter what happens, the Darkness will always benefit. The Darkness is the mastermind. All ends flow directly from the Darkness. All ends are constructed by the Darkness. Aaaand, that's the theory! It's a pretty old one, so it might not be relevant anymore. I think your new theory fits things a lot better. And this Vision could definitely have been foreshadowing things from Forsaken! Definitely. Bungie started foreshadowing Uldren's affiliation with House Kings all the way back in House of Wolves. Yeah. And remember, Rise of Iron wasn't originally planned. So, when Bungie made this card, they expected Forsaken to be released in about 2 years instead of 3. That makes it even more likely your theory is correct. Oh, this is completely off topic, but any thoughts on Vision 81? That's what I'm really curious about. It's still as vague as ever.

      • "Our truths woven into their being, desires beyond our own." The truths are Navigation, Cunning, and War. "The first needs the second to fail, the third needs the first to succeed." Xivu Arath said he would be stronger with Oryx then to war against him. Oryx was clearly stronger then him, but by following Oryx he could always become stronger.
