The Dark Guardian - Chapter 27: The Ultimate Dichotomy

Location: Dreadnaught, Savathun's throne Third Person POV As Ian walked through the cavernous hall leading to the throne, Para stepped forward blocking his path. Her grip tightened as she looked into the face of the hunter who was once a dear friend. At least, he had been, until he slaughtered Sara and Cameron. As the Exo drew closer, he called out to the Walker, saying: "Para, It's good to see you again. How have you been, good I hope?" Para gritted her teeth. Ian was mocking her! Her reply was laced with venom and hatred. "Shut. Up. You know how I've been. You murdered our friends, and you saunter in here as if I don't know? Are you stupid or do you just have a death wish?! Ian replied with a hollow laugh. "Oh, I just have a death wish. But I didn't murder your friends, I freed them. Para folded her arms is skepticism. "Freed them from what?" The hunter began spinning his knife around his finger in a hypnotic twirl. "I released them from a contract to a power that destroys for the sake of destruction. Does it absolve me for any of the acts I committed under it's influence? No, not in the slightest." "You've got that right. It absolves you of nothing. You're about to pay for what you've done." Ian groaned in disappointment. "Oh for the love of Light, can you Walkers come up with something more creative than You're going to pay? Seriously, it gets repetitive. Sara, Cam, and now you, all of of you have said it in one way or another. And if you can't think of anything else to say, at least back it up with a measure of skill. Para blinked in surprise. "You're about to die, and you're complaining about unoriginal threats?" Ian smiled darkly, and then dashed forward, slicing a shallow gash into Para's side. "It got you off balance, didn't it?" Para gasped as she pressed a hand to her wound. The cut wasn't deep, nor did it bleed heavily, but it hurt like hell, and that could end up costing her this fight. "Gah, you son of a bitch! You're going to die, just like every last pathetic innocent in that damned City!" Ian's next words were as serious as a heart attack. "Prove it." Para accepted the challenge, spreading her wings and flying towards the Hunter, scythe at the ready. Ian was forced to duck, barely dodging the dark blade. As he straightened, he began firing at Para, unleashing a hail of lead. But the bullets seemed to have no effect on her. So, he tried changing tactics, switching to his sniper rifle. The change didn't last, since Para quickly smashed the rifle into fragments. Swearing, Ian drew his knife. The two leaped towards the other, knife against scythe, Light against Dark. Over and over, they clashed, with Ian occasionally scoring a few cuts and dodging away every time. Eventually, filled with blind rage, Para used the shaft of Redeemer to attack instead of the blade. Ian was sent flying by the strike, and thus could not protect himself from being stabbed in the chest by Redeemer's dark blade. The Hunter gasped from the shock. It was like being impaled by a black hole. His energy, willpower, Light, the scythe devoured it all. As Ian closed his eyes, he noticed the elation on Para's face, and then he slipped into nothing.
