Here is the Bungie article on Destiny and third party applications:
https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/46101
The game will be incompatible with third party software that attempts to modify or otherwise inject itself into the game code.
If software runs by trying to modify the game (like changing the graphic user interface with an overlay, for example), it will typically be incompatible.
Software that runs in the background but does not modify the game itself (like software that remaps programmable mouse buttons, such that the game sees a different input but that input is controlled outside the game) will typically be ok.

More than a little pissed right now. I tried to get it running in wine and it actually worked fantastically with dxvk! After walking around the tower I logged out for a few hours. When I logged back in I was permanently banned. I have 3 hours of uncut footage I recorded to make a tutorial to show other users how to do the same. Your page states there's no way to appeal an account ban. How hard are you on that stance?

Edited by roboto: 7/31/2018 9:26:27 AMfirst up, thanks for your response, my question is more specifically in regards to https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11929 If i'm running destiny 2 on not-actually-windows but an emulation layer i *should* be fine because: - i'm not modifing the game code - i'm not messing with the network traffic - i'm not performing kernel mode debugging - i'm not injecting any code into the runtime or should i? The point about modifing game code has me a bit concerned as while i wouldn't be touching the game code itself, the tool i'd use to attempt to make it run on linux in the first place, DXVK, is basically a drop-in replacement for the graphics libraries the game would expect to be there on windows. So i guess my crux lies with whether or not destiny 2's "anti cheat" system monitors the d3d libraries as well? I know from recent memories that the dark souls III "anti cheat" got people banned for trying to run it on linux using DXVK. I'd love to hear from the security team about this. There's gotta be somebody at bungie at least thinking about getting d2 to run on linux :(

I would call attention to the portion of the article referenced
Using an external program to modify the operation of the Destiny game software, such as: Graphics hacks
searching for dxvk and ban yielded results from other forums where people were banned for even linking to that app, so I would again, advise against playing on unsupported platforms

also: after researching this a bit further it seems that the warframe developers, digital extremes have made a statement on this issue for their game explicitly disallowing this workaround for getting it to run on linux because their monitoring / anticheat banning system is automated while blizzard entertainment have explicitly allowed it for overwatch as well as several reports online in forums and on youtube about people being able to play overwatch with dxvk on linux. it would be suuuuuuuuuuper awesome if we could get an official statement on this because i'm really excited to have a go at getting d2 to run on linux but i'm scared / not reckless enough to potentially lose my account with my characters and all my playtime so shortly before forsaken drops :|
