I’ve always imagined the Ascendant Plane to be an abyss with a bunch of high-rising thrones coming out of it. Maybe some tomb ships flying below, with some walkways leading to portals. I may work on some art on it soon, it sounds interesting to work on. I may also throw in a couple of empty thrones, like Oryx and Crota’s, and a scratched out/crumbling 3rd throne signifying Nokris. Also Crota’s sisters. Not sure if I should have Xivu or Savathûn sitting on their thrones, considering that Savathûn may be... busy. May also throw in a triangle going through a big Blight hole in the side.

  • I've always thought of the Ascendant Plane to be abstract... intangible. It's not a place, it's not something you could see, but like another layer of reality. Weird to wrap my head around that, lol.

  • <Perhaps it can be... both? We CAN see Throne Worlds and they ARE part of the Ascendant Plane. Maybe the Plane is just a... negative universe? Maybe it's just green stars in the distance and upclose. A void to fill the gaps between Thrones. A noticeable ball of Blight in the middle... the Deep. Perhaps the semblances of worlds or objects tithed to the Ascendant Realm are in there, too. Shit now I have something I might draw.>

Hmm, that sounds really cool and it does fit. Perhaps, if we were to draw it, we could meld the intangible with the tangible? Spacetime curvature and all that stuff. Something like this: https://www.deviantart.com/okiir/art/The-Elder-Scrolls-Cosmology-432011248 Obviously that doesn't represent the Ascendant Plane, but the way it separates space with non-tangible boundaries sort of coincides with the incomprehensible nature of the Hive. The Hive (BoS especially) are surprisingly lovecraftian. I think their worlds and magic should reflect this. I don't know, that's just me anyways.

  • <Massive planets close together? Dozens of green stars? It's kinda what I'm thinking, especially of the Deeper Ascendant Plane.>

  • Yep! The one thing that'd bother me is the spheres. We've seen two Throne Worlds and both of them aren't exactly spherical. They don't look like planets. In fact, we have no idea how far they extend. Is Crota's Throne World only the physical rock we tread on, or is it the green void we can see for miles? If so, Throne Worlds are more like pocket dimensions than "worlds". One other small thing is the rules of the Netherworlds. Another user of these forums, KAGEHOSHI, has made some really interesting and thoughtful posts on the Hive. That's something to take into consideration. His post on the Hive can be found here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/186644035?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0

  • <Considering the Blight is another way to the Deeper Ascendant Realm, I'd think worlds consumed by them would be there. I'd imagine a massive space as big as our own universe. Entire sections would be taken by strong beings like Worm Gods or Hive gods. They make their own Throne World, and that connects to the void of the AP which connects to every other Throne. In the very center there would be the true heart of Darkness, for it IS its realm. It is the deepest part, a core of sorts. Around it would be hundreds or thousands of worlds, asteroids, objects, perhaps even dead beings consumed by the Deep, all of them tied to the Ascendant Realm or the Blight, which we've already established what it was. I have this whole thing imagined. Your previous reply helped finally describe all of the objects, ships, planets, whatever, just floating there. Non-tangible boundries.>

I'm on board! It sounds pretty cool and in tandem with Hive weirdness, haha. If I have time, I might hop into photoshop and come up with something. One more thing: This is something that I've never wrapped my head around... if the Ascendant Plane connects all Throne Worlds together, how come Oryx didn't pop in on Savathun and see what she's been doing this whole time? Vice Versa? How do you exile someone when their Swordspace is connected to your own? How come Oryx became lonely after his sisters left? Shouldn't he be able to be in touch with them? It's a minor detail, but one that bugs me.

  • <It's a vast Plane. If their thrones grew distant then perhaps they won't be able to find them unless they searched for a really, really long time.>

  • That makes sense, I guess. Oh, also your post about Blights and Taken connected our world to the Ascendant Plane might've been indirectly confirmed by Gameinformer. They released new info on Forsaken and apparently the Dreaming City is in the Ascendant Plane. Using Taken mists and blights players can dive into deeper layers to uncover secrets or something. The City will descend into deeper layers of the Ascendant realm every week for 3 weeks. (this is the change they talked about) So, that's pretty spot on with what you said! It's also telling about what exactly we'll be doing in this expansion and where the story is headed.

  • <No wonder there's a huge Taken presence there. Too bad we won't reach the Deep in time... even though it's 2 years away. Still, it's nice to get confirmation. There's been a lot of things I theorized about that ended up totally true. Only exceptions so far are guesses to specific story details and Nokris.>

  • Yep. There's been lot's of speculation by the community in general, so it's nice to get some confirmations. Also, they released some pictures (some concept and some in-game) featuring the Dreaming City and damn, I must say it looks really good. It's like Tolkien's elves mixed with Awoken and Void. Man, I'm excited! The Deep is 2 years away? Are you sure? Bungie is under contract to keep Destiny alive for 10 years. With the start of Forsaken, we'll be entering into Year 5. There's still 5 more years to explore Destiny's universe and I've always assumed the Darkness will be the big bad during the final year.
