Downside of Power Advantages in Trials and Iron Banner

I want Level Advantages in Trials and Iron Banner

I don't want Level Advantages at all in PvP

I recently posted a similar thread a couple days ago asking the positives of Power Advantages in Trials and IB. All I got was "So Power Level matters in PvP." After talking to some friends and other people that played these activities frequently in D1, that's really all I got out of them as well. - Why is that such a big deal? "It makes Power Level matter in PvP!". That's why you play Destiny? Power Level? Not the gameplay like every other PvP game? That's why some people stop playing after they hit max level, I guess... - There's going to be a significant increase in Level and Power Level ONLY in the Forsaken expansion. Does that mean the players who don't get the expansion are at a huge disadvantage already, or are they even basically locked out of these activities then? - From my point of view, someone who rarely plays PvP but would eventually like to enjoy it, it seems like that puts Players at a disadvantage unless they play the game and it's endgame activities regularly. In that aspect of gameplay it should be "casualized". You should be put at an even playing field against a team. A player with more skill than another should not be at a disadvantage just because his/her Power Level is lower than the other. A player with less skill than another should not have the upper hand just because they have friends/group that help them through raids and etc. every week. - I really don't see any concrete pros to this. You want everyone to enjoy said content, but the upper % of players will always have a handicap in their favor. How is that reasonable? - I will benefit from these changes as I play the game and activities almost every day, but it just seems so cheap.

  • Power level in IB should matter...only if they go back to the D1 system where IB has a chance to drop high level loot. I would also like the IB bounties back instead of this shitty ornament grind

Anyone who played D1 (when light level "mattered" in IB and Trials) remembers that the difference was negligible. In fact, people usually complained that it didn't matter enough. Trust me, this change won't make any noticeable difference.

    • Skill matters more important than power level.

    • Go figure. The one where skill is thrown out the window is winning.

      • Power levels have a hard time meaning much in pve outside of locking select areas and acting as a gate to select activities. Power levels in pvp would just hurt those at the lower levels and bar them out.

        • Power should matter in Crucible. In all match types. Provided you can grind to max power level in Crucible matches what's wrong with that? It's like you're saying you'd like to do well in raids before you have the gear and your character is leveled up. In a gear based game like Destiny skill should matter at max level, but a low level guardian should be at a disadvantage compared to a higher level one. And the game is certainly capable of matchmaking kindergardians with other kinderguardians while they build their character. However Bungie knows that many Crucible players are not inclined to put the time in to level up characters but want to see instant results out of the character creation screen. Hence Crucible has always had power does not matter modes to accommodate these players.

        • Since power level/light level is a big part of the game, I think it makes sense to have events that reward those that invest lots of time and effort in the game. Trials and Iron Banner seem like the right events to periodically enact the level advantage, even if it is a minor one. I do think they need to fix the huge imbalance to how leveling is achieved today. Individuals that don't PvE raid (like a ton of PvP focused players) would be at a disadvantage in PvP events. Really not sure that is what Bungie would intend or want. The key though is to provide a SLIGHT advantage to the player with higher level. You want it to provide a minor assist when taking on a player of equal skill but lower level, but not so significant that it excludes lower level players because they feel they can no longer realistically compete. I'm not sure what the actual advantage was in D1, but I don't think it was much.

          • In its current state IB is of ZERO value to the game (compared to that of IB in D1) This past IB Season 3 I played 1 match. In Destiny 1 I played to max level on all 3 characters every month. Iron Banner Gear is ugly in D2 and has the same stats of all the other gear you grind for LOL

              • I think gameplay is important, but the time you put into leveling your character up should have some impact to the game besides access to certain activities. Im sure it will be like D1, where level advantages were only slight advantages. The lower level player with better pvp skills will still almost always win the fight, anyways. The advantage is (or at least, was in D1) so slight, it will probably never even be truly noticed. Overall I think level or power advantages will help in Iron Banner. I dont care or think about trials and wish it would die.
