This would imply a total overhaul of the core of the game, they centered it around the weapon loadout system. They had a shit load of problems in D1 trying to balance the weapons , almost every weapon was nerfed and buffed and then got a nerf again along D 1 lifespan. Thats why we have what we have now, Bungies idea of balance. Good effort though, but i dont see Bungie making any significant changes on the loadout system for a very long time. They are just clueless when it comes to balancing weapons , as long as pvp is tied to pve ,the pve side is basicly screwed for the most part. Cheers.

  • Really appreciate your feedback and reply. I really enjoy it when people take the time to actually address why they think something might not work, and engage in constructive dialogue. I was not active in forums or anything during Destiny 1, but I was a player that when I was able to play, I played a ton of hours, largely PvE, but plenty of PvP. I do however currently have a basic idea of the problems and directions that were taken then. From everything I have seen and read it seems to be identical to a game I have played a lot and been very active in reading about the development cycle, League of Legends. League of Legends has been around for almost 10 years, and it has only been more recently that it has approached a "balanced" state. For most of its lifecycle it was constant nerf/buff/nerf/buff. The only time there was balance was when the OP flavors of the month happened to not be too incompatible, and the time before the new op buff was discovered and utilized by the playerbase. I mention all of this just to attempt to point out that balancing a game is something that is immensely difficult to do. So I do not blame Bungie right now for not knowing how to balance weapons yet. PvP being tied to PvE does not mean that PvE has to be affected for the worse. The only way that would be certain is if everything were identical across both systems(such as damage numbers etc) I do not think that the first part of my idea would be an overhaul of the core of the game, or that it would disrupt the current 'balance'. It might if Snipers and Shotguns were left with their current power simply ported over to the new slots. I do not see for example if shotguns were given more range and changed from a One Hit KO to a range and Time To Kill like a submachine gun, how that would disrupt anything, or need the cycle of nerf buff. They should just fit in like other weapons. Meanwhile in PvE you could have the damage remain unaffected. Snipers are a bit trickier but you could do a similar solution to shotguns and make them all at least 2 shot kills, and limit the initial ammo. Alternatives would be to have both weapon types keep current levels of power, but make the user spawn with no ammo for them, and control how much ammo is generated, either on enemy death or perhaps along side power ammo. This would largely be balanced because it would be no different from how things were/are when snipers are power weapons, but it would also be balanced because the user would be stuck with a single weapon with ammo to defend themselves with, handicapping them until they got ammo. So in short I think that the move from power to kinetic and energy is something that could definitely be done without disrupting the current system of balance. My second idea could certainly disrupt it, but mainly if it were done at the extreme ends of it. As far as Bungie making significant changes to the loadout system, we know they have said it is something they are looking into. What we dont know is just how serious the changes could be, or exactly when they would be implemented. They did mention they would give more details about their plans in the summer, so it is likely the actual change would be released with the major expansion this fall/winter. I think there are many ways to balance weapons in PvP while still being tied to PvE. The problem is that people may not like them. Lots of people loved the OP weapons in D1, and chasing the new Flavor of the Month. One possible way to have weapons different but tied would be to introduce PvE only mods or perks to weapons. These perks would be active for PvE, but deactivate in PvP. The best solutions however to the problem of balancing weapons IMO is to do 1 of 2 things: First adopt a balancing strategy similar to League of Legends has begun utilizing, and that is to provide certain playstyles, and for giving things extra power providing extra ways to counterplay. The second thing that could be done would be to divide PvP into 3 kind of segments. 1 Segment would be like Mayhem, where weapons could be buffed and OP, like in Destiny 1, the other would be more balanced and not require any frequent weapon changes, and the final would be seriously balanced. Anyways once again I appreciate your reply, and hope you have a great day!

  • I do like youre way of thinking, but Bungie has taken a different route. They wanna keep it simple so everybody can use the same weapons with the same perks in pvp and pve . So nothing can really stick out when you do this, according to Bungies philosify of balance. So the pve part of the game gets no special things to chase or gather that way, they just handed it out to us to keep any kind of grind opsolete. They even admitted that it is a casual game now, and there right . I play it even less then casual now. All of this has a reason, Bungie problems with there surch of balance they so desperitly seek. This reflects the most in the pve part of the game, i really mis the chase for those hard to get weapons that were OP in comparison to other weapons in there slot. It made me replay content , dont need to do that anymore now. All and all its just how i look at it now, had a lot of fun in D1 with my friends and clanmembers , there all gone now, speaks for it self isnt it. Cheers.
