Bring back random rolls & subclass like D1

Fixed rolls with mods 2.0

Random rolls, custom growing subclasses, & mods

I've been thinking about Bungie's mods 2.0 and I just keep coming back to the problem that we have now. Just like static perks on weapons and armor, the only way to make it work is a continuous flow of new gear every few weeks. New designs, new perks. Bungie obviously couldn't do this with D2's weapons n armor, so I'm really skeptical if they can do it with mods. We'll be in the same boat as we are now. Instead of Uriel's gift, it'll be Uriel's gift with (insert mod) . Still at the issue of how to make the repeats worth getting. How you correct it is easy. Combine D1 and D2. Random perks on gear. As you level the item up it allows you to use mods to upgrade gear. Rarity mods can scale how powerful they're. High end mods are hard to get, and you can only put them into gear that you've leveled up enough. Same could go with subclass perks and abilities. Scale them out so we can choose what jump, grenade, melee, super perks, and general class perks. Rather than D2's clump system, and more elaborate than D1's connect four method. As the transfer from D1 to D2 has allowed, we can learn to use the void, arc, and solar light in different ways. So every expansion bring in new subclasses. Even if they are just variants of an existing subclass with different perk trees. So, what do you think? • Give me Taken subclass so I can say this to enemies: "Forfeit your mind!" or "Suffer me now!" :) Bungie, make it happen.

D1 random perks extended the grind to get desirable items. But in the end everyone’s weapon drops looked more or less the same. If you wanted a legendary sniper for pve then it probably had target acquisition, triple tap and increased magazine, and reloading perks. Scout rifles managed to have similar perks to snipers. Pulses and Autos had to have stability and recoil controlling perks. Rockets had to to have tracking, machine guns needed big mags and to be relatively controllable. So on and so forth. This came about because of how we always needed to deal damage to bosses from a safe distance, we needed consistent performance against adds, and we needed to maintain our DPS regardless how we dealt it. I remember scraping dozens of weapons a week because they were duplicates, inferior to what I had, or were not what I used or needed. Judging by how my friends, former raid teammates, and I play, eliminating randomized perks has simply made people more acutely aware there is only a narrow selection of desirable items, and most of our loot goes into the trash. I doubt renewing an extended grind that is no more meaningful would go over well. As far as subclasses go I think trying to add more would make classes feel bland after a while. I know Bungie has indicated there reluctance to homogenize classes anyway. Personally I would like to see the skill nodes expanded on. At the very least a skill node should define a build, there should be perks that make minor modifications to how the build works. Then allow the user to further emphasize how the super, the other abilities, and even match elemental weapon types combine to manipulate the build. Been working on a comprehensive overhaul ideas, these are some of the things that I have been considering.

  • In destiny, subclasses each had 6561 different perk combinations. In destiny 2, there are 36. In destiny, you could go play any mission or strike, and at various difficulties. In destiny 2, there are 3 story missions each week, and only at heroic difficulty. And the strikes are only available in a playlist. Somebody at Bungie has a control issue. That person should probably not be on the design team. Just sayin.

  • Right now static rolls hardly even matter. There are 6 ideal rolls available in the game currently unreleased. The problem is the existing roll pool and intrinsic weapon types. Both are shallow and lackluster overall.

  • I don't necessarily think static rolls are a problem, the problem is their isn't enough look and most of the perks on the static rolls suck. Subclass customization would be great. Destiny 1 had weapon and subclass tree builds. Destiny 2 has weapons that shoot bullets.

    • Honestly, if they brought back random rolls to weapons and armor and added more that werent reskins, id play this game almost everyday. Other than that, this game is just boring. Its never been broken, theres just nothing else to do.

    •
How you correct it is easy.
@ any Bungie devs or community managers that read this. My statement here was not intended to state that the coding, programming, engineering , and implementation of this idea into the game would be easy. I have no idea how game design works. I was saying that having both in the game would be ideal, IMO.

    • I really don't get why random rolls are being requested. It's fake replay value and it was frustrating during d1. Running a strike over and over, getting the same crap to drop over and over, but having to keep running the content because said gun doesn't have a good roll, let alone the best. There are plenty of ways they can make the game more fun to play, and give players reasons to play without screwing it up with random rolls. Adding random rolls back will do absolutely nothing good for the game.

Just gonna 'Plug' this in here.... Made this poll/post a while back, under ☆Best of Both Rolls☆ just thought I would insert it here as well, hopefully it gets seen by someone with influence or picks up traction... Trying to look at this like the Vex, Past&Present&Future. No one system is perfect but perhaps we can reach one that considers everyones opinion. ☆How about both? Static and Random Rolls? 1st let us try to UNDERSTAND the position of both sides. ☆ Static Rollers want a legit weapon that does what it says it does. The 'Get what you pay for' mentality. I can empathize, some want to know what they are going to get, and not want to spend endless hours chasing a gun that RNG might not drop. Better Devils, Uriels Gift, Last Hope, Nameless have all made a Name for themselves (yup, intended) because of what they do. Every1 knows what to expect, its power, limitations and capabilites. That is Fair, these are trusted to do what the Devs intended. ☆However over time, once these weapons are obtained (by majority), that sense of discovery, urge to do an activity, and loot at the end of the tunnel looses its flair. Moreover the only difference between my Uriels and yours is the Shader&Masterwork trait. Bottom line Diversity and Variety get the short end right? They suffer currently. The sandbox becomes stale because:what is good is good, and what is bad is essentially bad. There is no mystery or hidden meta. Just look at Trails report for evidence. Fighting Calus? Use the Meta. Playing Trails? Use the Meta. No sense of discovery or 'ahh' moments. ☆Random Rollers want excitement, the chase of the unknown, and don't mind the endless hours of grinding because: they will play the content anyway until the next batch of goodies drops. So give us something to chase. Through all those hours of playing, every gun may not be G-roll status, but some hidden gems may be found in the mire, and at best be FUN to use. ☆ Over the course of time some of the weapons obtained have their own unique sense of flavor. You bond with it knowing that maybe your arsenal is truly original. A Nightshade with full-auto trigger system instead of kill clip, Better Devils with Triple tap, Jiangshi with Rampage, Mannanan with third eye, Uriels gift with Candle sight. Just examples of how diverse and expanded the sandbox meta COULD be. Raid loadouts would differ, crucible builds would be more creative and less restrictive. The longevity between seasons would increase, new stratigies could be fabricated, and the skill cieling would rise. More loot for "Endgame Chasers". ☆ Even in D1 there was a meta with Random Rolls. Clever Dragon, Matador, And almost every Palindrome was good, at least viable. However now in D2 the problem with all Static Rolls is that there literally is no competition or challenger to a static meta. New guns added at the moment get compared to whats good now and if it falls short it will collect dust in the vault. With a Hybrid System in place Guardians have the CHOICE what to chase & would add the distinct personality and uniqueness to their builds, not to mention overall sandbox. Sense of Random Mystery for the Endgame Chasers. Consitiency for the Causal. Best of both Rolls. ☆ Static Rolls drop in these events: Normal Nightfall, Normal raid, Strikes, Non-Flashpoint Public Events, Quickplay, Weekly vendor resets. Rahool the Fool ☆Random Rolls Drop in these events: Prestige Nightfall&Raid, Flashpoint Public Events, Lost Sectors, Heroic Adventures and Strikes, Competitive Crucible(encourage less rage quiting) and Tyra Khan(she needs some love) ☆Additionally they could do Arms day-Choose an archetype of weapon(H.C., Auto rifle, smg) on Arms day he has both the static and Random roll that way if you need it you can aquire it, and if you have it you might get that G-roll. Also Planet vendors should Drop both rolls every engram qnd offer both on reset. The choice. ☆This may not please everyone in all camps, but i do feel it would please majority no matter your preference. Got only a few hours to grind? Chase that static Auto rifle you missing. Got the whole day off with nothing to do? Create a stream, load up prestige Arms Dealer chasing that random roll for hours on end. Bottom line i think the CHOICE of the chase is just as important. Give us the choice then leave the Decision to us. ☆Id love to hear more from other Guardians, we alone did not make this community but together we can build like the last city, feel free to express and discuss, i am but one Guardian, but all our opinions matter. ☆p.s. thanks Bungie for making a Destiny we can share.

        • The difference between poisonous and venomous If you bite it and you die, it's poisonous. If it bites you and you die, it’s venomous. Or it hit an artery and you bled to death. Or it was a really huge bite. If it bites you and it dies, you're poisonous. Or you mistook a bee for something else. If you bite it and it dies, you are either venomous or just took a big enough bite out of it for it to die. However, if it bites itself and you die, it's voodoo. If it bites you and someone else dies, it's correlation, not causation. If it bites you and it's already dead, it's a vampire. Or possibly a zombie.

          • Your idea for leveling weapons to unlock mod slots is very similar to how Warframe does it I do like that system but I have zero faith that bungie will make really interesting and useful mods for fear of balance im almost sure that mods 2.0 will be an utter disappointment

            • Skill tree changes, absolutely. Random rolls, no way. Here is why I feel this way (my thoughts/opinions which we know are like assholes, because they all stink.) You have a vast gap of skill in playing the game, specifically pvp. So you find a crappy pvp player like myself and give them a nameless midnight and Uriel’s gift, and they play ok. They run into a good player with the same loadout, they get their ass kicked. They run into a great player and it is a slaughterhouse, which is how it should be. You introduce random rolls, and the crappy players still are crappy, even with good rolls. But the better players then become unstoppable to each other and the game stops being a competition of who is better and becomes who has the better gun. With a great clever dragon, I was not beating any streamers. But top players without the rolls were losing to skilled players with the rolls. It’s crap. If the guns were better designed with more variety instead of more skins, no one would bitch. And let’s face it. Random rolls are only for pvp. Yes you could roll a monster pve gun, but who really cared? Every gun works well enough for pve. The enemies aren’t that tough.

              • Jesus stacked that last one but no. Still think it just needs an in depth mod system: weapon archetypes (base no added perks) then mod the living shit out of it the way you want. I am still waiting on a classless system. I don't want my character to just be bound by one class...i have seen my hunter float like a warlock dammit...only thing that should define the guardian is what class item it is wearing. Other than that, I'm part ninja, part warlock, part titan. I would still gladly make 3 characters. Each dlc could add new ways of obtaining new skill sets.

                • With mods 2.0 we could see 2 or more perks left open for you to modify a weapon to make something that you would enjoy out of a weapon. Be pretty cool to have a selection of perks that I could put into multiple empty slots and fill those slots with perks that would work for me on any gun that works for me. That would bring back the depth. Also, there would have to be a grind for materials to do this.

                    • I feel like Mod 2.0 is going to disappoint no matter what. I need to see what these new changes are and how they affect our weapons and armor. If it sucks, then it sucks and RNG rolls should return for the hell of it. Weapons and armor really need a deep customization feature and I feel like Bungie will always scratch the surface but never actually realizing it.

I think with a robust mod system you can have static rolled weapons. They should look at how Warframe does mods and do that. You could even mod the subclasses. It would be amazing. And mods should be upgradable to increase their effect. Maybe 5 or 10 levels per mod. Just like how your character has levels. Maybe weapons should have levels too that slowly increase the base stats as you level them. Just my 2 cents.
