Vault Space Suggestion. (cause we all know we need more space)

**ATTENTION**- Scroll Past the spoiler which is my venting(ranting), and numbers, and stuff for my suggestion on a fix for the vault.. [spoiler]So I've been grinding my self applied endgame of collecting all legendary gear at max power (was 300/305). And I have to tell you. I feel I literally can't play the expansion because: I got on today. Noticed I had a gift of the new "Illuminated Engram". So I fly into tower, go over to Tess. Accept my gift and decrypt/redeem it. Straight to postmaster it all went. Wouldn't you know it. I can't even enjoy the very first thing provided to me in the update. Why??? BECAUSE I HAVE NO SPACE AT ALL The 200 spaces for ALL items is currently a joke. For some perspective... there are currently, after expansion one, 216 Legendary Weapons ALONE according to DestinySets.com Then another Legendary 384 Armor Pieces (total from all 3 classes and all ghost shells) - 51 Ghost shells that's a fun number of 333 Legendary armor. Oh and that's NOT including the Tess Eververse stuff. Also, did you know there are now 89 Shaders for your 50 slots? And I honestly don't know how many Mods there are possible, but I know that I have 50/50 and have to keep deleting blues that don't stack into what I have. So there's definitely more than the space they allowed as well. So that's just the surface of EVERYTHING in the game. [/spoiler] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~* SUGGESTION *~ Yes, I could delete all my weapons and stuff I really don't use... but that defeats the purpose of being a collector. . . so I have a better suggestion. A fix for this issue. And It even leaves the vault more or less how it is with the 200 slots. And it also helps with the economies a little too. And even uses systems that already exists in the game's code. (again more or less) Know how in your vault you can tab over to "Collections". And it has lovely exotics that you have collected for purchase for 10 legendary shards to get them back again? Do that again. But different. Make another Tab called "Legendary Locker" or something. And in it would be another two "slots" for Armor and Weapons. Much like how the Exotics are separated. And in those slots would be INFINITE SLOTS of storage. The benefit? Any item you put in is saved AS IT IS... meaning if it has a shader on it, has a mod on it, whatever power level it is at... It's all saved. (This is how the current vault works, but not how getting exotics from collections is when you dismantle them) And it wouldn't impede into the 200 slot vault for everything you want in quick access. The catch? It costs a small amount of Legendary Shards to put anything in / take anything out. Much like renting a locker or safety deposit box. Thus is the cost of infinite storage. Also would be unable to transfer stored items over via companion app or other similar services. The way I would like to see it work is: To deposit something, Imagine being able to send something to the Legendary Locker from anywhere. All you have to do is Lock your item (a system already in the game). Then hold the button for what used to be "dismantle" but has now changed (after locking) to a prompt "deposit" or "send to Legendary Locker". (Much like the "store" function for emblems) Costing 3 Legendary shards (one legendary item dismantled gives you this). It would remove the item as is, and deposit it into your locker waiting for your return to it whenever that may be. To claim something, it would be very much the same process as claiming an exotic out of collections. You would have to actually visit your vault. Tab over to "Legendary Locker". And you could then scroll through your inventory for the item you want. And it would cost say 5 Legendary Shards to remove. (half of what it costs to remove exotics from collections currently. And the total 8 shards could be considered the premium of storing said item, and is still less than an exotic weapon price) You could also directly deposit any items on your guardian here, and it would automatically lock the item in the process of depositing it. (Think of this as a necessary safeguard. If you are depositing it, you obviously are wanting to keep it, but not wishing to store it in quick access Vault. So locking the item makes sense) IMO. This system would: Remove ALL vault space issues Give another economy use for Legendary Shards Provide a means for people to actually collect EVERYTHING in the game if that's what they wish to do Free up vital vault space Make using the vault for shaders and other items a viable option All while virtually no adverse side affect. So long as transfers are smooth and accurate (no lost items). Players wouldn't have to use the service, if they rather just dismantle their gear when needed. So there's no risk of forcing players to spend shards. But for those of us that want to keep gear and need space, the service comes at a very small cost of IN GAME economy. (not a paid service) And it introduces a new element into the item management game. Do I deposit this for x amount of shards? Or dismantle it? I need 3 shards to deposit this item, let me dismantle this piece I don't need and there I go. The only adverse affect I see with the system (as suggested) is people who have stored a lot of items and wish to liquidate their inventory for legendary shards would actually see a loss in shards. But this is financing in the given economy. Not necessarily a fault, but a point of caution. If you want to keep something stored, you need to realize the costs to retain the item again prior to using the service. Otherwise store it in your vault for free. Let me know what you guys think. And upvote so Bungie might see, if you like the concept. WaZe

    The thing that gets me really with this whole thing is actually from the lore of Destiny. Glimmer is just programmable matter, and Engrams are the patterns to be able to "encode" the glimmer to make some object. Does it not make sense then that once we find an Engram that we could just essentially store it for recreation at anytime? I mean, the technology comes from the golden age and is clearly still in use despite the collapse. Are you telling me that once the cryptarch decrypts the engram it is gone forever unless we find another copy? Any system which honestly decreased the rate at which we received loot, but simultaneously left us with the ability to reclaim something we had found at a later date for some appropriate cost would be beneficial I think to everyone. Collectors would be able to collect all the things. People concerned about meta changes wouldn't have to worry about "Oh no, the meta changed!" and then "Oh, -blam!-, I dismantled the 'new MIDA'", or shit resilience is new main stat, to bad I sharded all that heavy armor. I think the steps coming in next weeks update may be a partial fix for this with several vendors allowing you to purchase armor from them. Any space stored by armor in the vault would be decreased, requiring you to only store eververse and other such limited time, or RNG drop only gear. Within the spoiler is an explanation of why some things are the way they are, why some of these things are bad systems, and some miscellaneous stuff. [spoiler] Vault space - The hardware issues. -------------------------------------------------- On Bungie's end the hardware demands created by an increased file size per account for vault storage go up. This is something that I think people fail to fully realize how much of a headache it can be for a developer. Each file does not increase dramatically in size per account. As an example lets use the number 5MB per 50 slots. If they were to add 100 slots, that's 10MB. If you had 1,000,000 active accounts across all platforms (not even considering accounts which have been inactive since after week one). This is only ~10GB of storage space to account for this, which, by today's standard, a small amount. However, inactive accounts need the storage space as well. And they need free space to allow for new accounts to be created. Lets say that's another ~20GB of space. The fact that Bungie doesn't use dedicated servers for their network model also gives some insight to this. There is a likely-hood that Bungie's expenditure for the games required servers is kept as low as possible. The game server that hosts the character files is likely rented by Bungie. And they likely are renting an amount of storage space with it to account for their current systems with some wiggle room. Tacking on another ~30GB of storage space thus would likely increase the cost to rent the server space. This makes the vault slot issue something that is very much something that the developers would love to do, but that the person in charge of authorizing this increased cost has the final say in. Everything else ------------------------------ And the eververse is a root of storage space issues. If a player wants to collect (and manages to get) every exotic sparrow, ship, and ghost shell for each season, let alone the armors, the vault becomes quickly plugged up. Not to mention all of the legendary shells, sparrows, and ships. Including shaders in the eververse in an what feels like an attempt (even if it does not function as such) to fill the loot pool with "pad items" essentially decreasing the probability that you get the thing you actually want further feeds the storage space problem. The fact that shaders are now a consumed item instead of being essentially an ornament further plugs up storage space and also leads to players not wanting to use them out of fear of not having it anymore. The same applies to transmat effects. These two things are core elements of character customization. The customization at the beginning is truthfully a sad excuse for player customization, and one that is only potentially seen in cutscenes and social spaces. Shaders and transmat effects are however seen by the player and other players for 99% of the gameplay, and yet both do not provide the freedom for the player to freely apply them without worry that should they equip a new ship or armor that they will not be able to use it again. This is a poor system that fails to understand basic human psychology. Players of games with usable items rarely use those usable items if they are perceived as rare, even if they would make the game play easier on the player because there might be a situation later where they wish they had it. And that leads to a situation in which they never use it. Rare consumables are best served as items which grant an immediate benefit to the player which doens't make sense to hold on to (e.g. gives immediate xp, skill point, etc...) Shaders and transmat effects provide no benefit to gameplay, but still have the problem of, "I might want to have it to apply later to gear/ship I like more and if I use it now I won't have it then." There are similar issues with the current mod system having essentially duplicate mods that don't stack simply because they fit different armor slots, but provide the same effect. And the fact that transmat effects also fill this inventory space further makes it worse.[/spoiler] The problem with the vault space isn't the number of slots. Its that there are far to many things to fill up that space that do not need to, and should not be.
