THIS IS NOT A CASE OF LOW FPS. Monitored framerate is NOT dropping during the stutter. The game mostly runs great during combat between 60-144 fps. Silky smooth. I noticed some real annoying stuttering that gradually gets worse over time (very visible when trying to turn your character quickly), but strangely my FPS was still 60+. It would eventually get bad enough to become more than an annoyance and start to affect gameplay quite a bit. I could even go to orbit and my mouse cursor would skip around while moving it around in the menus with my fps as a solid 144. As soon as I restarted the game - BAM perfectly smooth again.
Changing any graphics settings (vsync, aim smoothing, fullscreen, etc.) does not fix the bug.
Switching drivers (the bug has been around for a year's-worth of driver updates now) - and even completely changing hardware - does not fix the bug.
Most people seem to be getting the stutter the worst/fastest from doing public activities. My current theory is that it still has something to do with clan and/or public player list data piling up in the code and not getting properly cleaned out.
What sets this bug apart from other stutter bugs?:
1) The stutter gets worse over time. Destiny 2 does not have the frame stutter immediately after starting the game. Noticeable difference after ~30-60 minutes of gameplay. Early on, you might not notice it, but your brain does.
2) You can temporarily fix the stutter by restarting the game. Reportedly, some people get it to reset by returning to orbit... but not always.
3) Not a mouse polling issue. Still occurs with mouse disconnected and playing with only a controller.
4) Framerate does not drop precisely during the micro-stutter, nor after the stutter gets worse.
OUTDATED bug reproduction info:
This was initially a reliable way to reproduce the issue, but a lot has changed since then. It is still reproducible via these steps, but the bug is not as suddenly noticeable as it used to be):
I have managed to reproduce this choppiness bug every time.
I'd be interested in seeing if the exact same thing can be done by others with different rig setups:
1. Start up fresh game
2. Go to Artifact's Edge on Nessus and wait for public event - the Cabal Drill event.
3. AS SOON AS PUBLIC EVENT BEGINS (sky darkens, etc.) the choppiness starts.
Only a game restart will fix this. Going back to orbit, or even loading into another area, the strange stuttering persists until game restart.
I have noticed the game doing this "dropped frames" thing elsewhere - maybe just over time it gets worse. But this one public event was like night and day when it started.
Edit Nov. 30 2017: This is still an issue even after the clan roster fix, although the performance degrades at a slower pace than it used to. Continuously doing public events is still the best/fastest way I have found to reproduce this issue.
Edit Sept. 7 2018: Still an issue. Have to restart the game every hour or so to reset the stutter. Many people reporting it being worse since Forsaken (more active clan & player lists aggravating the issue?)
Edit March 7 2019: Hasn't been fixed yet. Some evidence seems to show that the stuttering is in part triggered or made worse by FPS going over 60. So the more powerful your hardware, the worse you will see this bug. Which may explain why it was reported more frequently by people with higher end GPUs (1080s, 2080s, AMD equivalents, etc.). It would also match up with other 'above-60fps' engine bugs Destiny 2 has had in the past: weapon effect animations, jump pads, etc. Perhaps this coupled with something in public areas is causing the stuttering to gradually get worse.

Edited by Tonico: 4/9/2019 8:10:53 PMSame problem, this is headache and nausea inducing, would be nice to hear atleast something from Bungie. I thought this was a problem with my Freesync monitor running on the experimental G-sync support, but no other game suffers from this, only Destiny 2. After landing on a planet I get butter smooth 70-75 FPS. Couple public events later, the FPS meter is bouncing all over between 60-70 but the motion is extremely stuttery and hard on the eyes. It's like the game engine loses sync after roaming around in the planets for a while, going to orbit always fixes the stutter until spending some time at planet sandboxes and the problem starts again. **EDIT** Update 2.2.1 deployed on April 9th fixed this for me. No more stuttering after going through public events. i7-3930K GTX 1080 Ti (Latest drivers) LG 38UC99 with Freesync/G-sync at 50-75 Hz W10 Pro (Latest public version)

Yeah I think Im having the same problem I thought it was an FPS problem cause at points its at 60, then randomly jumps to 58-59 and goes right back to 60. This recently started like less than a month ago.

Edited by Scyph: 3/13/2019 5:10:43 AMAfter I overclocked for the first time thought it was that, reverted my settings, changed in game settings, nothing seemed to work. I knew of the bug already but it seemed really bad today. Am getting ready to face the fact they will never fix this, and it ruins the beauty of the game.
-
Any news? Will ever be a fix, or Bungo just shit on us again?
-
Really hope they fix this... I stopped playing and didn't buy the Annual Pass just because of this. The stuttering gets insane during raids/ public events. Issue has occurred across multiple different systems with different specs. CPU: Intel Xeon E5-1650 V2 GPU: RX 580 8GB RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

For me, my frame rate issues went away the moment I disconnected by second monitor (as in making sure that it was not even physically connected to my PC).
-
i noticed that when i turned the FPS cap off and just set my ingame V-sync to 60FPS it is kinda fixed, now i sometimes just have some slight FPS drops that go to 54 (completely random). and when i turn everything off i get 100FPS (regularly) but then the game gets so choppy i cant even play normaly

Hi! I have same stuttering lags in public areas after 7-10 minutes of gameplay. But in other activities (story, strikes, gambit, pvp, etc) i dont have any problems. FPS counter always shows more than 70 fps but looks like 25-30. If i go to orbit and return to location where i have lags - i dont have problem for same 7-10 minutes I tried: - Change Graphic Settings to low - not result - Change Resolution to 1080p - not result - Vsync ON/OFF - not result - Change Monitor framerate to stock 60hz - not result - Change FastSync Nvidia settings - not result - Change server from Europe to America - not result How i can fix it? Edited by GeneralBlpman: 1/31/2019 8:12:00 PMI have had the same issue, but more with AMD GPUs and I found that if I set the frame rate cap in the Radeon software to match my monitors refresh rate and then use enhanced sync. (Note: I had to adjust the global settings is does not work if I tried to create a profile specifically for this game.) Then in Destiny 2 setting disable Vsync and frame rate cap. I get silky smoother performance. I am using driver 19.1.2 and my system specs below. Asus X470 Prime Pro Ryzen 2700x RX Vega 64 32GB RAM DDR4 2666 500GB SSD (OS) 1TB Hard Drive 7200 rpm (Destiny2)

Edited by Marcel5D: 1/30/2019 1:01:12 PMFinally found the sollution on my build. Sinds forsaken I've had the stutter after 10 to 30 min in the open areas of the game. Would get worse over time. Sometimes even in gambit or strikes. But far more in open areas. Going to orbit helped temporarily. Finally after hours and hours of research i found the following sollution from a user and it finally fixed al stutter and framedrops. The game runs buttersmooth for me now. 1: I downloaded NVIDIA inspector version 1.9.7.8 from guru3d 2: Set a frame cap at the driver level in the profile inspector. I set it to 60,7 fps (Frame Rate Limiter v2) 3: Vsync -> fast sync and its smooth as butter now. 4: Safe profile in nvidia inspector 5: Vsync off in destiny 6: Framecap off in destiny 7: Try windowed fullscreen in destiny(this was needed on my build), if it dousnt work on fullscreen. If fps dont cap on 60 and you get tearing then startup nvidia inspector and start destiny 2 again. Needed to do this every once and a while. But other than that destiny finally runs how it should. There is something wrong with vsync and framecap in destiny on my build so setting this in nvidia inspector solved all problems for me. Definitely try this, maybe this is a fix for some of u guys to. Hope so. PC Build: Windows 10 1803(on m.2) M.2 SSD 120GB Ryzen 1700x 16GB Corsair Vengeance Nvidia GTX 1070 250GB SSD(destiny installed here)

<first of all, sorry for my english, im from hungary.> <second: I LOVE THIS GAME> we are waiting for sooo loooong to fix this. anyhow. will you ever fix this? will you? i think i already know the answer... if u guys or girls (whatever) reply. if i use hard language then you IMMEDIATELY can start threatening; you will be punished blah blah blah.... for what? the language? you deserve it, i think, i know. because you sell shit. yap. that is the truth. i hope you will be punished for shitting on your customers head. you are not even trying to do something. asking for people's system specs or deleting crappy xml-s wont solve any problem. we are not stupid, i think every gamer knows what he can run on his rig. one year and no fix. if i do my job like you "dear bungie", I would have been fired long ago. i hope many destiny players see the truth about you, and never spend another penny at you. good luck on destroying yourself.

Edited by Blast: 1/14/2019 7:30:33 AMSame Issue Bungie... I did a WHOLE BUNCH OF TROUBLESHOOTING..... The problem ist, that I do (did...) really love playing this game.... I don't play any other games in general any more - only Destiny 2. But the more you play with these stutters - occuring after ten minutes or so and then getting worse - the more you notice, how badly the immersive effect of the game gets a deep cut. Additonally, improving your aiming and skill is nearly impossible due to slowly increasing and non-calculable stuttering while turning and looking around. And yes, it must have something to do with the game code handling the occurance of multiple players on the same spot. As if somehow there's collected more and more "public player-data" and not kind of cleared out - leading to a game-destroying effect of steadily increasing frame-stutter. Bungie - Help and support your customers / players / fans, as I think that - after having read through many forums and websites - EVERY Destiny 2 Player playing YOUR game on a modern monitor / display is facing this issue. Would be interesting to hear just ONE Player playing with a current gaming monitor NOT having the stuttering issue..... This player probably does not exist in this world. Pretty cheeky, Bungie.... Maybe we all should buy and play some other game. P.S.: On purpose, I did NOT tell my computers hardware specs... Because I think and am quiet sure of the following fact: The error is caused by your faulty game-software itself (code/engine), no matter what kind of hardware your customers are using.

Just upgraded my GTX770 to an RTX2070 with 144Hz monitor and now I have this issue.
-
Same issue, as I've posted many, many times over the last 5 months. It baffles me that we don't have some sort of dialogue or fix in the works for this, reading how everyone is having the exact same experience with horrible stuttering in public spaces...
-
Have the same issues on my AMD vega 64 on the 19.1.1 driver (overclocked, roughly 3% slower than a 1080ti according to userbenchmark). Framerates never drops below 120 fps at the highest settings on 1080p but started getting that stuttering/choppiness lately, even on those high fps settings. I changed some graphics settings in game, checked that nothing else was running, reduced my overclock to different degrees, but nothing fixed it.

Had no issues on my 980ti. Decided to threat myself to a 2080 at black friday and i have worse lag than i had before because of this... EVGA 2080 HC ULTRA (OC Curve) Acer Predator XB270HU 144hz screen i7 - 4790k (OC to 4.4) 16gb RAM (1333) dual SSD (1 for windows 1 for games) running at 1440 All drivers up to date. Not even at MAX in settings (most are, useless ones are not) Game runs fine, after about 1 hour it goes to hell. This is solid bs
-
I did not encounter this issue until I got my new monitor. I thought it was something with the game update because it started around the time BA dropped. I've tried everything and the only way I can seem to get it to stop 100% is to drop my monitor back down to 60hz (I used to play on a 60hz monitor so I never had the issue). I tried bumping the refresh rate back up, and after a little bit of playing the problem comes back.
-
Also experiencing this issue. Game stutters or lags. I thought it was caused by other guardians in the same instance, but I'm experiencing it while running ascendant challenges solo too. Ryzen 5 1600x GA 370 K5 Mobo GTX 1080 SC Win 10 16GB Vengeance 3000 mhz LG 34" UW 144hz I tried downloading CPU Cores and reducing background processes, and I run ClearMem lite periodically to free up memory, but I haven't found a complete fix for the issue. I tried reinstalling GPU drivers, updating mobo bios, resetting CMOS, lowering in-game settings, adjusting Nvidia settings, etc. I monitor all my temps and there are no abnormalities. GPU usage, CPU usage, and mem clocks are all consistently performing too. Prime95 tested and 3DMark tested. I should be able to run this game at 144 fps but the game reports variances from 90-130 in a matter of seconds. The solutions mentioned above provide some relief, but the fixes are inconsistent and temporary. Bungie, please address this issue. It seems to be a recurring problem and a real impediment to the beautiful, immersive experience you've created.
