Rat King Impossible
My brother (274 Hunter), friend (270 warlock), and myself (283 Titan) have been working on getting the Rat King for about three weeks now. With my brothers work schedule, we can only do the nightfall for two days a week, so we've done the nightfall six times now. We just completed the nightfall for week 4 of Destiny with 2 minutes remaining. We just seem to have issues getting this exotic. This quest sucks. We've jumped through so many loops only to get destroyed for about 2 hours for two days for the past three weeks. 12 hours all for an exotic that's not even that great, and yet, it seems next to impossible with our builds. What are we doing wrong (tips would be super appreciative)? Is bungie to blame for a quest that is next to impossible if you don't have the right build, equipped exotics, and just making a quest that's down right tedious, ridiculous, and exhausting for a meh exotic?
Edit: I should probably mention I'm a Destiny Veteran. Played during year one of Destiny all the way to RoI. My brother and friend are not. I have two accounts where all six characters got to 400 light. Was raid leader a lot of the time, knew WotM like the back of my hand, crota was super fun as well I'm not really that casual of a player, but I'm trying to enjoy my time more with my brother since he's new to the game and we've seemed to connected over it.
Edit: Also should mention, we're on Xbox.

It is not impossible. Your team just isn't doing the raid Nightfalls effectively. Just an FYI only 1 other member of the team needs to have the quest/rat king equipped to progress it for you.

Ok if you are having trouble this week there are a couple things u could do differently and it will help immensely to improve the time you have left. First you want to have a nightstalker with invis bombs. Second pay attn to the objective in the top left corner. If it tells you to eliminate enemies kill them as fast as you can(use your grenades). When the objective isnt to eliminate but rather just make it through the area have the hunter make you all invis and just run past the enemies. If you stay close as soon as invis runs out he has another invis ready. If someone dies but you can make it to the checkpoint without him, leave him dead. When he respawns he will be advanced to where you are. Get to the boss as fast as u can. When he finally teleports to the middle hit him with everything you have and he will be almost dead. Then just continue to grenade him till he is dead. Eazy peazy. Gl hf

2 RepliesAre you saying you can't beat NF or that you're not getting quest to activate or that your quest glitched? Sorry if it's obvious, but I have similar issue. I did NF twice with my clan mates and even though I've had rat king in inventory it did not unlock the gun (I believe that is the last step for it?). It's basically stuck on the verse with you clan, NF, yada yada. I accepted at this point that it glitched and simply won't unlock, but I am not able to let go of that one spot just yet LOL

This week is easiest. Spam grenades and fusion rifle. Titan double pulse grenades work best

2 RepliesIm purposely not reading other responses, I am sure you are getting flamed. I am pretty average at destiny and I have done it once (i have three classes going). I tried it a lot and eventually got it. I managed to get it on week 2 because my friend found all the hidden anomalies. I thought they popped up randomly but once he showed me it wasn't we had a lot more time. Mind you it still took 3 tries once we figured it out. What I am trying to say is we are all still figuring out how to get it done but it isn't impossible, I have found I need to stop relying on my d1 strategies and be open to new ideas. I have failed getting it this week even though I have beaten the nightfall (4:30 left was my best time). I am looking for that one crucial suggestion to get me over the hump.

Juicehead2004 and KiDJuNgLeFeVeR has it spot on in their suggestions. I actually missed the first two weeks (didn't have the game). Last week I missed it by 11 seconds. But this week, we finished with 5:04 left. Unfortunately for some reason, didn't complete the quest for me. Not sure why, but I digress. Not to highjack your thread, but anyone know of some hidden thing on this step (nightfall), or is it simply complete with 5 minutes left. Examples being: members who have already completed need to have the gun on them when finishing (think I read this somewhere), need to be alive at the end (I was dead when he died). I know that on a previous step (think is was the crucible), one of our fireteam members got dc'd on one of the matches, so that one didn't count. Not too worried about getting the gun, but was just curious if I missed something.

Warlock stormcaller and hunter running arcstrider if u have all three classes. Striker Titan is op as hell this week imo tho. Spam the hell out grenades and throw up barricades whenever ur in a bind . Crest of Alpha Lupi also heals u when u throw up ur barricade so use that if u got it. I went with Better Devils kinetic the new FWC scout w/ arc mod and Shock and Awe fusion rifle w/ void mod and wrecked it last nite on both of my characters . Got to boss w/ 9:00 plus minutes and finished him quick..!! Had over 5 mins left on both runs and I was highest level on both tries.. just spam grenades and go..!!! And have fun man, this week is a blast..!!

1 ReplyThe quest is not impossible, and is actually very easy. You need to coordinate your group so that you aren't all running around like chickens with your heads cut off and actually have somewhat of a decent understanding of the mechanics within the strike. Clean up mistakes like dying to stupid, standing in fire, and taking too long to kill meaningless adds. If it was impossible Bungie would change it, but as someone who's entire clan got the Rat King the first week, and could have easily gotten it every other week as well, I can confidently assure you that the difficulty is subjective and you just need more practice.

1 ReplySorry for the negative replies you received, as nobody deserves that when asking for help. This week is actually the easiest NF so far. There is no burn modifier this week so your best bet is to use arc and void weapons/subclasses. Depending on your team composition: Hunters with Orpheus rig, running the Nightstalker subclass with the invisible grenades is extremely OP for this NF. You literally have a super every 30 seconds (spamming nades) to spam orbs for teammates and can be invisible the entire NF. Titans running arc and pulse grenades is very OP as well. As others have mentioned, you can run through A LOT of this NF. Again, though your grenades cooldown is like 3-5 seconds. Just spam AOE grenades left and right in the areas you have to fight. ---On all other nightfalls with the burn modifier. A good composition is having your team set up to where you always have two weapons (same element type) going at each time. Example: Player 1 runs an Arc energy weapon, Void Power weapon, solar subclass. Player 2 runs, Solar Energy Weapon, Arc Power Weapon, Void subclass. Player 3 runs Void energy, Solar Power, and Arc subclass. Tweak it to your own liking. Hardlights are useful too since you can switch elements quickly. Hope this helps.

4 Repliesthis week is the easiest week I've seen to do rat king tbh. Just run as many strikers as you can with double pulse & arc mods in their gear and you'll absolutely blitz the entire nightfall with like 8 minutes left without really needing to shoot at all.

2 RepliesI just ran three Nightfalls while in guided games (so one random) and we still beat it with more than 5 minutes in the clock. This week is stupidly easy because you literally can run past 75% of the engagements.
