It was this time 3 years ago....

That I would have been waiting in orbit with my regular Fire Team, eagerly waiting to run Vault of Glass. We would be overly hyped about whether one of us would be blessed by RNG to get Praetorian Foil, Corrective Measure, Vex Mythoclast amongst all the other worth while "To Grind For" loot. 3 Weeks into Destiny 2 and what do we have to be over hyped for? Patrols, Nightfalls and a Raid that just gives Glimmer and Tokens (If you're lucky.) In-Game activities that give you Glimmer and Planet Tokens. YAWN. Empty Loot Caches, even after popping a planet scout to find them. Re-Skinned Weapons. Await a DLC that is basically rehashed shit. But alas, the fanboys are still here defending Bungie.
I don't need to use the #bait tag do I?
• This time, three years ago: 1. There would be nothing to do but the raid, the Nightfall, Strikes, and Crucible. 2. You had a loot system so broken that: a. People would be shooting into loot caves because it was more rewarding than actually playing the game. b. You'd most likely complete that VoG run and get nothing but "Chatterwhite and Shards". c. You'd either be complaining about "Forever 29", or running three versions of the same character each week trying to overcome the absurdly stingy loot system. 3. You'd be running around harvesting chests in the open world trying to get the materials you needed upgrade your gear. In fact, most of your play time would revolve around mindlessly grinding to level up gear and unlock its perks. 4. That's assuming you're not having to run the VoG to get the materials (Ascendant shards and Energy) to upgrade gear that the raid wont' give you. (I completed TWELVE runs of VoG with my Warlock and an Alternate, and had only ONE piece of raid armor to show for it). 5. If you were playing PVP, You'd have been running around trying to find a way to combat broken-and-overpowered weapons like Suros Regime, Vex Mythoclast, and Pocket Infinity. Weapons you had no way of readily getting yourself...and against which none of the game's other weapons could effectively compete. Bottomline, Beta and D1 Day One player here....and I'm getting REALLY tired of euphoric recall and "CoD Syndrome" going on here. I'm tired of people 'waxing nostalgic' for the "great game" that vanilla Destiny 1 NEVER WAS. Destiny 1 was a broken, poorly designed game that people fell in love with because of its great gameplay mechanics and in SP:ITE of its numerous other flaws. Flaws that Destiny 2 has either fixed, or in is in the process of trying to fix.
do I need to use the #reality_check tag?
• 3 years ago I would have been working my ass off buy Destiny. As soon as I did get enough money, the Christmas hack hut and I was not able to play anything for what felt to be a month later. It's just sickening to see spoiled brats complaining about something that hasn't even been out for a month. Just think about it. How fortunate you are to have so much free time to play. As a high school Junior who has to work 5 to 6 days of the week. Leaving me only one free day to play, plus whatever amount of time I get when finished with homework. Consider yourselves fortunate that you have a lot of time to play games.

          • I feel like the raid had the chance to be an all out war machine. With constant chaos and such. Vehicle warfare. Something fun yet challenging that made you feel like a complete war machine with climax moments that once you completed you felt rewarded. Maybe even people would run more than once a week just to go all out again. But I'm not disappointed with the current raid. It's got a good raid vibe of challenge, just I feel like the cabal could have gone a different way

            • I believe that the absence of random perk for weapons totally killed all the fun in Destiny 2 after the first 2 weeks. There is nothing left to do that has any meaning. Raid is a chore with all this silly mechanics (Where are the boss fights???). Meta is auto rifle + Mida so there are no great weapons to grind...... I believe the error many ppl do is to compare destiny 2 with vanilla destiny 1. The thing is, if you compare destiny 2 to Destiny 1 post TTK, there is actually no content here..... just boredom

              • God Vault of Glass was a great raid. Why have they never been able to make a raid feel as great as that since? Is it the design? is it the lore of the Vex just flat out being better and more interesting than other enemies? what was it about that raid...
You are using your Keys right? There’s a reason only the first chest gives you look in the Raid. The rest of the time you and your fire team should be using the Underbelly. Your play style is a little lazy if you keep going center. What, you complete it once and stop looking for a better way? That’s weird bro.

                • This time 3 years ago I was going through Chemo and learning how EQ defined your Light Level past lvl 20. I had Zero people to play with and it wasn't until half way through October before I actually did the Raid. Now we are swimming in gear and progression on a solo level ALONE is eons better. Just wish there were new secrets to find when you go past 300 Power Lvl that accesses new areas without DLC being the only reason to come back to WANT to get past 300 in the first place.

                • The community asked for a lot of this whether direct or in direct. They're trying to build a community with no barriers. Everyone gets a trophy. It's been made way more casual to appeal to more. Not defending it. Just calling it like it is. I actually like the token system though. Way more paths to getting what you'd like and you can basically get something from everything. But somehow this is a problem?

                  • People bitch and moan about how grindy vanilla destiny was but I shit you not if you were lucky enough/put in the hours to hit level 30 or even just completed a nightfall and had the glowing head, when you went to the tower you were a God/Goddess with everyone following you around, inspecting you and spamming invites for your help/advise. I miss those days when gear was elusive and a real ball ache to get, it actually felt like it meant something. But let’s face it Bungie has been trying to move away from that model ever since and aim more towards the casual gaming market (I don’t say that as a bad thing, gaming meant to be casual. It’s a “GAME” after all) due to the massive drop off of players in Vanilla once they hit level 20 and the light system came into play. Ultimately the moral of the story is, you can’t please all of the people, all of the time. People who enjoyed the Vanilla grind are generally unhappy with the new model, where as people who felt shut off/locked out during Vanilla are generally happy with it as they feel entitled to access all of the content on a game which they paid there hard earned money to play.
whilst I’m aware this was a bait post, I felt the need to comment as it has sparked an interesting conversation
• Oh yeah bc vault of glass was much more rewarding. Everybody got vex. And fatebringer. First try. Glimmer from leviathan? Spirit bloom from vault. I get you might not like destiny 2 compared to destiny but stop looking for negatives.

                      • Overall it's a very similar game to the first, minus the awful grind. With the season pass I think there will be lots to do over the year while still being able to play another game. The only think I wish they did was create an in-game ability to find a fireteam for the nightfall/raid. I know they now have the app which is a good step, but being able to setup a team right in game would be great. You could set minimum light level and or mic requirements. But one think I don't understand is why people still keep on playing if they don't enjoy the game. I understand wanting improvements, and we should get them with patches and updates, but if you don't enjoy the base game there is no point in playing.
