So on the topic of awoken creation my theory is that they are made when a person is in the middle of dying when the blast the traveler caused to push back the darkness infuses them with light. This would explain their blue color natural skill with the light and why we typically see them near great causes of death like the reef. It would also explain why some can be born on earth as plenty of people were dying on earth as well as the rest of the system. However I think most guardian awoken are just awoken that died and were revived by a ghost. Take Zavala for example: he presumably was one of the first awoken to come to earth but he seems to have died in a crash. He was revived as a guardian but he was awoken beforehand. But that just my perspective.

If you read the Awoken Ghost Fragments you'll see that the Awoken were formed when a separate consciousness entered the body of a human (possibly dead or dying) and the two decided to become one Supposedly this happens under the condition that Light and Darkness are both present and clashing. When the Traveler gave that lasts push it set the line at the Reef, but there was also definitely some mixing elsewhere in the system so it's likely that Awoken formed on occasion in locations other than the Reef. Reading the City Age grimoire we also know that when people first started going to the City there were a few Awoken among them, and this was in a time before any Awoken were known to be anywhere but on Earth and when even the Awoken surely didn't have proper equipment for traveling all the way to Earth
